  1. I should add, in the coming weeks, you won't need to go as far as 100 ft to find salmon. 40-80ft of water can be quite good, regarding of water temp as August winds down.
  2. From the pierhead, it's about 2-1/2 to 3 miles to the SW, about 5 miles straight out and about 4-1/2 to the NW. You have about 6-1/2 miles to get to the stick(Big Sable Light) to the north but 100 ft is close to the shoreline when you get there like Boltman said.
  3. I dropped off a reel with a broken line counter on Sunday at noon and Tuna's had it fixed when I left town at 3:00PM. $15 bucks, got to love it. They have worked on a lot of reels for me, great service. If your coming to Ludington, time to fix up some old reels, they do great drag rebuilds. Tuna's number is 231-907-0052 Email [email protected]
  4. Hey Adam, we'll be up this weekend. Let's get together for a burger or a beer around fishing. The Little Point has been great all July but the fish were loading up at Ludington last weekend.
  5. That was me Tony, my boat has the same name, since I got her new back in 1990. We've got a lot of great memories together. I've always hoped to meet Frank up there sometime but we haven't crossed paths yet. Good to meet you. Great pics and great job getting the kids out! Are you going to be back in Ludington this year? We are up there every weekend and at least 3 weeks of vacation days spread out:D Looking forward to a full week up there a week from next and a few more long weekends. Sounds like you had a great vacation up there!
  6. Capt Gary's in N. Muskegon should have it too.
  7. The issue on the pro boat was they were trying to shake off smaller fish. The observer lodged the complaint. I don't think results are official yet.
  8. We fished the classic this past weekend. Very, very rough seas on Friday for the ladies tourney. We didn't make the long run to where we had been pre-fishing and stayed closer to Ludington to see what was going on there. We got kings but no trout and ended up in 22nd. It wasn't quite as rough on Saturday and we made a long bumpy run 20 miles south. We set lines around 7:00AM and started picking away. We ended up 12 for 14, got 2 needed trout and some very nice kings for a heavy box. We ended up in 8th place on day one. That got us an observer on our boat and a great position for day 2. We were very happy back at the docks. Back to the same water on Sunday and we had the fish going immediately but we struggled boxing them. The fish just kept getting unbuttoned. We ended the day 6 for 15, what a puker! That dropped us to 30th place out of 89 boats. We landed one trout and lost another for sure and maybe the 3rd we needed. If we could have landed 1/2 of the ones we lost, we would have cashed a check. We had our chances and blew it. Oh well, that's fishing and our team doesn't take it too seriously. We still had lot's of fun and great action on the rods! Some of the best rigs were a DW sportsman special on a 300 ft copper. A DW blue whale on a full core was hot, got steelies and kings. This is an old standby that hasn't worked that well in recent years but it will be getting more time in the water in coming weeks. A blk mamba meat rig on a 1-1/2lb weight out 200 to 250 ft. A green/glow spin doctor and fly on a 300 ft copper. A white spin doctor and pickled sunshine fly on a rigger at 90 ft. The best depth was over 80 to 120 ft of water with fish coming 40 to 90 down. If I get some time, I'll upload some pics later. Good luck!
  9. Some nice boxes coming in today, some very nice kings, we're ready for tomorrow. I'll call you Eric.
  10. Is anyone here going to be in town for the tournament this weekend? Outside of tomorrow AM, looks like great weather for a great weekend.
  11. Nice job, great pics, it's fun fishing with your kids!
  12. Nice job Arron! We're off with the boat to Ludington for the rest of the year Friday. Do you ever fish there?
  13. Here is their pic, a real pain when they get this bad but they dealt with it real well and won some nice bucks in a big tourney:
  14. Enjoy that quality time with your boys, they are getting big fast!
  15. Looks like Asian Carp in the great lakes will be part of Obama's legacy. Asian Carp Found Near Lake Michigan http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/24011359/detail.html POSTED: Wednesday, June 23, 2010 UPDATED: 8:10 pm EDT June 23, 2010 CHICAGO -- A single Asian carp has been found for the first time beyond the electric barriers constructed to keep the dreaded invasive species out of the Great Lakes, state and federal officials announced Wednesday. Commercial fishermen found the 3-foot-long, 20-pound carp in Lake Calumet on Chicago's South Side, about six miles downstream of Lake Michigan, according to the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee. While officials said they're concerned about the find, they need more information before deciding how significant it is. "The threat to the Great Lakes depends on how many have access to the lakes, which depends on how many are in the Chicago waterway right now," said John Rogner, assistant director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Scientists and fishermen fear that if the carp become established in the Great Lakes, they could starve out popular sport fish and ruin the region's $7 billion fishing industry. Carp can grow to 100 pounds and 4 feet. Joel Brammeier, president of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, said the carp's capture highlights the need for a long-term solution that goes beyond the electric current. "Is it disturbing? Extraordinarily. Is it surprising? No," Brammeier said. Rogner estimated that the male carp was about three to four years old. It was caught live but has since been killed and will be sent to the University of Illinois for additional analysis. The carp is the first to be found in a Chicago waterway above the Army Corps of Engineers' electric barrier system. Officials said they'll use electrofishing and netting to remove any carp from the lake. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said he's confident in the effort to contain the carp. "Finding a solution that will protect our lakes, while preserving jobs and promoting economic activity in the region is essential," he said in a statement.
  16. Yes you can. I use big jon mini diver disks off boards, not full size dipsey divers. They don't pull any harder than an in-line weight and I like the presentation. When you hit a walleye on a diver disk, it tends to pull them higher in the water column when reeling them in so you don't snag adjacent lines. Sometimes I think the diver disk 3 ft in front of a mini spoon works as an attractant, especially in murky water. You could use in-lines the same way, just a personal preference for me with the diver disks. My buddies run the same program too so we can also match presentations if they are hitting on something good. I use planer boards to spread out and run more lines. Didn't matter on this day since it was two of us and only 4 rods in Ohio. We ran one board with 2 mini divers and 2 riggers. If I was in Mi waters with 3 rods and a bigger crew, we can run 6-8 rods off our planer boards and I have 4 riggers on the boat if needed. We do sometimes run regular diver rods on occasion off the sides of the boat. Eric, the weeds weren't bad there on Sunday, lot's of mayfly husks. There was a very big pack of boats another mile or two farther east but we never got into it. Our numbers were 48's and 8's. Matt, I'm coming up to Ludington this weekend, been up there a lot working on my new place in Tamarac but I've been working and not fishing. Are you going to be up this weekend fishing? More of the same for me but the end of work is in site. It's crimped my spring fishing and walleye fishing but will be worth it. I'm bringing the boat up 4th of July or the following weekend at the very latest. Then it's all play and no work!
  17. We fished in Ohio waters from NW to north of West Sister Island in 27 to 30 ft of water. My buddy any I got our Ohio limit of 12. We trolled copper backed spoons most of the morning on diver discs off boards 90 and 100 ft back and off riggers on the bottom. A green streak with pink dots was the best spoon. When we had a slow spell, I pulled a board line and put out a 3 color core with a 1/2 pound weight and blue and chrome hot n tot. I dropped the weight 20 ft off the rod tip and put it in a diver holder. It took 4 fish. When that started to go, I pulled a rigger and put a black and chrome hot'n'tot down 19 ft and it took a couple fish. Good luck!
  18. Nice job Matt! I was up painting my place and my neighbors hit some real nice kings this weekend too. One more weekend of work and then I can get back to fishing.
  19. Yeap, June is the month to hit Erie or Saginaw Bay. Have you taking a long west troll out past the 4000's in Ludington. That's where I head up there right now. It had been tough fishing for some of my buddies up there too.
  20. Fishing was tougher today and we picked away. We had quite a few undersize, a good sign, and ended up with 9 walleyes for 3 of us. We hit 5 nice fish early when we stopped in 17ft of water out front. Then we trolled out to 26 ft of water and hit some more. Spoons on riggers on the bottom were the best. Diver disks out 65 to 100 ft depending on the water depth. Small Dreamweavers, Stingers and Streaks, copper back and purples were best. Lot of trash and weeds in the water from the storms, we had to fight the weeds on our lures all day. Less weeds inside than out deep. Some stable weather should set things back up. Good luck!
