  1. What's up with the league rookie showing up in what looked like a military assault boat and pocketing the big fish prize? Nice fish Rob. And the 21# behind it was a nice fish too.
  2. Set up in 55' north of the piers only to have someone that could not drive a straight line drop in more or less on top of our boards, without another boat close. This pushed us out to 70' and onto the fish, but they were not the heavies we were hoping for. By 7:15 we were 4/5 losing a small fish, getting a just legal king on a two color, a 13# on a seven color and a nice king and coho on a half core. Picked up and ran out to 190' and ended up 4/6 out there, missing a hit and losing a good fish on a full core before rattling off three quick fish on a woodpecker dw down 58 and a jagerbomb 160 back on a slide diver. Two were steel that really helped us out. Girls were awesome today handling the hour wait to dock better than I did. Dad was in top form on the rods being the only one not to drop a fish. Thanks to littleboat and coralee for the reports on the deep fish. Also thanks to advantage marine for not hitting me for a total engine workover but only rebuilding as much as needed. No oil leaks, no shakes, and she purrs like a 26 year old kitten. Pity I can't push her hard for a while as today would have been a day to run.
  3. Nice collection of boats showing up. As for beating me to saugy, I'll be in a 50 mph boat more than likely setting up within a mile of the piers. Can we get two reports that match?
  4. We're mostly harmless. And you can catch fish from the beach to the WI line this weekend.
  5. When have I ever been afraid to throw down in the channel? I love playing tug of core. If you bend the keel on a scoter decoy do they work as planer boards?
  6. Wednesday night sailboat league in Holland. Thursday night is blow boat lesson night in lake mac if you're thinking about walleye, but they stay around the green can buoy.
  7. Nephew just got back from the Holland pier and it was 49 degrees. Limit of kings, but all 15-20" eaters and not matures.
  8. If you ever feel the itch to get back out, drop me a pm and we'll see what we can do.
  9. You know what my plan is? I've oiled the teak and acid washed the hull to get her ready to buff and wax. I'm going to at least have a pretty boat when I choke. 0/5 in the row boat last Saturday spending half an hour with a full cord in my prop (my own full core) and the four winns engine is coming of an untested rebuild. I'm full of confidence.
  10. One, the trip from the dnr launch to lake Michigan has a nice sandbar to miss and two of the most poorly marked no wake zones on earth. Two, feel free to pm as time gets closer and I'Lo give you my take. If you're used to structure, there is none around. We get excited about a 2' dip in the bottom.
  11. New guy. Make sure you introduce yourself all around at the weigh in. Rebuild on my 350 wasn't as extensive as expected. Should fire it up tomorrow and be bolted back up Monday.
  12. I run a 14' most of the year and do fine. Biggest to date on it is a 20. Well done.
  13. Having seen yonker pull big kings on 2 colors with a temp. Break down 60', I don't think you can fish too high in the dark.
  14. Last really good morning bite we had, as in 5am, the break was down 50 so we dropped in at 45. However, the hot rods were a rigger down 25 and a wire diver out 80. Sounds like what you've been doing.
  15. 10 years on my four winns and I still don't run 2 per side. Oddly it works pretty well on my 14' though. Shows how important set up is. Slide diver on 3 over a mag wire diver on 2, with the slide diver rod being a foot longer.
  16. That was an awesome report until that last picture. Fish has some mass, not sure I'd say 30 but high 20's for sure, and it's been a while since I've seen a 30 for comparison.
  17. Run them 28-30" behind a dodger and you won't have to slow down as much and can still target kings on your other rods. Stack a bead or three, then a treble hook if you want to pick up every zebra mussel on the bottom, or a single hook if you want to lose a few fish behind the boat.
  18. Just talking trash. Would it be a great story if it paid off for them, sure, and I'd be the first to shake their hand. If I beat them at the pier in my 14' I would expect the same from them.
  19. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Case in point: yoga pants.
  20. How did that 70 mile run work for them? Would hate to do that and learn I got beat by a 25 year old cuddy cabin running on 7 cylinders.
  21. Engine is currently not in the four winns. Oh wait, maybe I will have to use the 14'.... Count me in, even if I have to borrow a kayak to beat Scooby snacks.
  22. The only consistent theme on my big kings is that I was all by myself when I caught them. Biggest came on a standard green dolphin on a full core at 11am long after we gave up on kings and were grinding Lakers, but left out some cores just in case. One before that was on a skinny and fly at 1 pm pulling lines in bath water heading in. Boat record before that was a j plug ticking bottom at the thermocline in late August at sunset.
