  1. when i take the boat over to erie we slip it. The whole season rate where i am at is only 450 for the season. when i am back here i trailer i would like to slip but the cost is a little high for me and the marinas dont offer a month deal. It is whole season or the same rate per night for a month at yact basin or eldeans. I like to fish monroe for may and june so i would be paying for almost half a season that i wouldnt use the dock.

  2. I have four when the long lines are doing better I run two or three riggers. When the bite changes I get all four down. One weekend this past summer when everyone was complaining about no fish we came in with 14 one day and 11 the next. just ran four riggers and four divers with most of the fish coming on the riggers. I say put em on and if you need them then you have them available.

  3. I'd like to say thanks to frank for taking time out of his day to meet up with my dad and I in augres and help us find marinas and camgrounds for next years walleye season. It was nice metting face to face and i really appreciate the time you took out of your day to show us around the area. :thumb::thumb:

  4. No prob! Mine started out as wishing for the big jon motors and not liking the price of 500 + bucks for just the motors. I had the walker motors on the shelf from a downrigger upgrade and ordered the wheels and switches just to try it out. figured if I put fifty bucks in it and it didn't work I wasn't out much. I had the mast from the previous year that I paid like 75 bucks for it and was using manual big jon reels. I have about 125 invested into the whole deal. I now have two seasons on them and they have been out in all kinds of weather and going strong. No problem with the motors being out in the elements. I used two wire plugs like used for trailer wiring so I can remove the mast they were like 2 bucks a set at tractor supply. I use mine quite a bit in may and june walleye fishing and have thought about ordering a spare motor just in case one does go out.

  5. 30 amp reverse polarity switches are what you need. also 30 amp inline fuses. I drilled two holes in my dash and added these switches: http://www.amazon.com/Position-Reverse-Polarity-Control--Maintained/dp/B001PNHBW6/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1380594922&sr=1-1&keywords=30+Amp+Toggle+Switch+3+Position+Polarity+Reversing+DC+Motor+Control+on+off+on

I called gama and orderd through them and not amazon and I had them in a couple days and it was cheaper than ordering from amazon: http://www.gamainc.com/

here is what I built using the walker motors:

I now have a couple seasons on them and love the system.

  6. Well boat is all done winterized all the gear out away in the basement and the winter storage canvas on and in winter storage tomorrow out come the hunting gear. Even though it was a slower season and didn't spend as much time fishing we still had a fun year. Thanks to everyone on here for another great season. Next year we are going to have a little change and try Saginaw bay instead of erie.

  7. Must have been walleye Friday as I did the same exact thing. I like to make the drakes batter thinner than the instructions. Nothing better than walleye.

Frank can you send me your number I am thinking of moving my boat from erie up to the bay for this coming season (may and june) and have some questions on the area. Campgrounds marinas storage stuff like that.

  8. for wire convector 30 work fine spool each with 1000 ft of 30 lb wire. Rods I like the blue diamond roller rods in 10 ft for the stiffness to get around my side riggers.

If you have 10 colors of lead I would set up 225 copper and 300 coppers. 225 on 45 convector with 300 yds of 50 lb power pro with a piece of 30 ft of 30 lb mono between the pp and the copper

the 300 on a 55 convector and 300 yds 50 lb pp and again the 30 ft piece of mono between the pp and copper

  9. Thanks Ken.

Sounds good Jon and will do on keeping in touch

Yep Mark I agree it is sure amazing watching the day to day changes Still amazing both our daughters born on the same day. It really would have been something if it was the same hospital also.

    Thanks Don

  10. Well I decided to take the boat in for winterizing Saturday. next week heading north to get the stands ready for bow season. Wasn't the most productive season this year with the screwy weather at times and taking a few weeks away with having my daughter this summer. Thanks everyone for another great season.

  11. Another way to do it is cut a small swim noodle in 2" long or so pieces, cut one side to make a C, put that over your flasher and wrap the leader around it and stick the hook in it. Lets you just throw flasher/fly combos in a container with minimal tangles when you pull one out.

Gonna have to try that sounds like a good idea.

  12. Here is the cooler I picked up this spring. works great, I like the handles that are molded in and not hinges. the last Igloo I had from Wally world the handles pulled right out.

I was on Jons boat and saw the cooler he is mentioning. It will be my next marine cooler. It is better built than the igloos. Walmart has them on their site for 80 free delivery to your local store.

  13. Here is an email I got from lowran when I was inquiring last winter

This is what a tech at lowrance sent me.

    Lowrance Transducers

    Choosing the Best Transducer

Choosing the best transducer for your Lowrance Fish Finder needs some understanding of the differences and the features of the transducers on offer. There are two types commonly referred to as: 'single' and 'dual' frequency or shallow and deep water. The differences are not only in the frequency but also in the beam width and they are as follows:

    • 'Single' frequency HST-WSBL 106-72 transducer will operate on 2 frequencies on the new HDS models: 200 (20°) & 83KHz (60°).

    • 'Dual' frequency HST-DFSBL 106-77 transducer will operate on 3 frequencies on the new HDS models: 200KHz (12°), 83KHz (36°) & 50KHz (35°).

Note that the 'dual' frequency transducer has a narrower Beam Angle than the 'single' frequency transducer. So what difference does that make I hear you ask? Quite a lot actually.

The wider beam angle on the 'Single' will give more fish images and less noise in shallow water (under 100m). 83KHz looks good in fresh and Brackish Water, but does not perform as well as 200Khz in salt water.

For fresh water fishing and under 100m, the 'Single' 106-72 is the best choice and for fishing over 100m & the shelf, choose the 'Dual' 106-77. For some applications you may want both and this is becoming more popular. All Lowrance HDS models can use either of these transducers and the frequency (beam angle) can be switched at any time.

The above comments refer to Transom Mount transducers. However Lowrance also have shoot thru the hull 'Single' frequency transducers and 'Dual' frequency Thru Hull transducers which are suited to larger vessels.

Lowrance Transducers are designed for specific hull types and operating depths. Chosing the right Lowrance transducer is not rocket science, it is a simple matter of answering the right questions:

    • What type of hull and boat length? Tiinies and trailerable fibreglass runabouts will fit a transom mount transducer. Sailing boats and non trailerable Fibreglass will fit a Thru Hull or In Hull.

    • What depth are you fishing? Under 100m will use a an 83/200KHz and over 100m, a 50/200KHz
