  1. Very nice reward for your effort Ed. We gave the rough water a try yesterday morning out of port Sheldon and had to quit at 8:30 as my 1st mate got sick. We did manage to boat 2 and lost 3 in a row. Green spoons and blue/white spin docs with green flies or meat were taking hits. Riggers, divers, and boards all took hits fishing 40’ to 90’ down.
  2. Well done again Ed. Some how you pick the windy sessions and the kings that want to run sideways.
  3. Very impressive Ed ! 2-3 footers, 2 fish on, tangled, and fishing solo. That’s an adventure!
  4. Well done guys ! Good call on getting a plug in the spread. Thanks for the report.
  5. Well done ! Beautiful big king.
  6. Found a few fish this morning after a couple of tough days. Put a 6 rod spread out. 2 riggers. One with a paddle and fly the other with spoons. (Blue dolphins) 2 low divers with meat rigs. 2 high divers with spin docs and flies. (Green flies and green meat rigs). Fish were 40’ to 100’ down in 110 fow to 145 fow. Missed 2 on spoons on starboard downrigger and boated 6. Eleven inch paddle down 100 took a 11 lb steelhead.
  7. Tough fishing up north in Pentwater too. Not marking many fish and when we mark them they do not seem to be hungry. Missed 2 and boated 1 dandy king on a meat rig Sunday morning. Beautiful boat ride though.
  8. Well done guys ! Thank you for the details. I have a question for all you guys. What length is you meat rig set up ? I typically run a standard 68”rig from Dreamweaver and haven’t had any more success when I play with different lengths. Speed and rotating action seem to be more important than the length.
  9. Thanks for fishing report BLP. We went looking where you left off. We had a short window to wash some lures Sunday evening at sunset so we took advantage of it. Started in 125 fow south of PS. Marked bait when we got into 85 fow. Picked up a king and a laker on 200 copper and a rigger. Ran all SS spoons. Beautiful evening for a boat ride.
  10. Well done Ed. Netting a 15# king fishing solo can be exciting . Thanks for the report.
  11. We were one of those boats that went out around 4 PM from port Sheldon. We sat down in 150 feet of water and zigzagged east over the next two hours. we picked up a king on sb rigger down 60 in 145 fow. The wind picked up pretty good so we continued to let it blow us on shore and picked up another king on a 225 copper in 85 fow. We marked quite a few fish in shallow but it was getting a little sporty in the 17 foot Lund so we called it and headed for the harbor. We ran all spoons. Rosta goose and bloody nose hooked the two kings.
  12. Great strategy for fishing solo.
  13. Less fish caught this spring may increase catches this summer and fall.
  14. I’m a little curious about the fog too. Looked pretty soupy on the buoy cam.
  15. Nice catch for your hard work. We did a quick shake down yesterday out of port Sheldon. The only thing we forgot was the cooler . Got lines set at 6:30 pm and pulled them at 7:45 pm. Port high diver back 100 in 55 fow with a spotted mixed veggie went and we missed him. Starboard rigger down 45 in 55 fow with a green dolphin took a nice spring king. It was pretty bumpy and all the gear worked well so we ended the shake down and headed for the trailer.
  16. Well done and Nice catch. Good looking spring kings.
  17. Big kings are tough to get in the boat. That’s why we fish for them When the hook breaks you know you played the big boy correctly. we lost a good one down deep under the stern also. It escaped when when the point broke off the hook.
  18. Sounds like you had a great boat ride on Lake Michigan on the last day of September. We are all blessed with that opportunity over here on the west side of the state.
  19. very interesting. I wonder if it's out of convenience or if large alewives are not around at feeding time.
  20. That’s a really nice steelhead on the top of your box of fish.
  21. Swimming and steelhead fishing in September! Who has it better than us? No one ! thanks again for sharing your knowledge. The steely’s put on a great show. We plan on fishing those acrobats as weather permits
  22. Thanks for all the coho info. I like the fact that they are increasing the planting down in our part of the state. The fish are fun to catch and they are tasty. I did measure the coho and she was 26 inches so we came up short on a master angler. wow a 29 lb coho is huge. That’s why we fish, even if reports are bad. You just never know. Based on conversations back at the boat launch yesterday, there are a lot of steelhead in the area. Everyone seemed to be using different color spoons from mags all the way down to super slims. They steelhead were hungry and feeding. I’m assuming the amount of steelhead in the area is partially because of the large schools of bait fish ? Sonar was lit up with bait balls between 90 and 120 fow. The bait was mid depth to the bottom.
