nice catch ! Those late morning bites are fun. From my experience those fish start to bite again around that time and if you stay out there, you can get into that late morning bites. I think Ed is right you have a new fishing partner. i’m curious if your lead core broke or did you break at the leader knot ?

Great catch Dave ! I agree, late summer kings are angry and a blast to catch. We switched strictly to dreamweaver snap swivels a couple years ago and never had one break. Pricy but insignificant compared to other expenses. So we trailered north and went out of Pentwater on Thursday and motored down south to the dunes and started setting lines at 5:00 a.m. Had our 1st King on a copper before we got the board on and it was FISH ON all the time from that point on. We landed fish number 10 at 7:03 a.m. We had our 2 man limit and had to throw back a nice King on a 10 color when pulling lines. All plugs for us. (2 riggers, 2 divers and 2 boards) We ran every color and they all took fish. salmon slayer and natural glow both took 3 fish. I removed the front hooks due to net tangles the last time out and the single treble’s were much easier to remove from the net. There were so many fish on the sonar I almost thought it was on demo mode but it was the real thing. It is a blast when you set down on a school of angry staging salmon.

Thanks jolly time for your report on the 20th. We waited for a break with the wind and trailered north this morning. We were finishing up setting the sixth rod in 50 fow and it was game on. Never could get 6 rods set. At 7:30 we had our 2 man limit and only 1 rod left in the water in 70 fow. 7 color, 150 copper, both high divers and both riggers all took fish. a-bomb spoon and plugs of all colors did the work. (green, blue, pink dot, natural glow, and a chrome frog) Mini’s were a little better than 5” plugs. ( all dreamweaver ) I really don’t think color mattered. Everything we put out took a fish.

Well you earned that one Ed ! Great effort sticking it out and you were rewarded with a nice king.

130 -150 fow 10 color with a blue dolphin ss took a 18 1/2 lb king. no diver bites or cu bites. all other bites were riggers and sliders. riggers down 60 and 70 with sliders pinned 15 feet above the ball. 8” white paddle with riverside fly went twice. green jeans, a-bomb and rosta goose all went twice. 2.4 - 2.7 sog. beautiful evening to be out. I’m glad the weather man got it wrong.

7-30-26 P.M. port sheldon. Nice job Ed, We had a little trouble keeping them hooked up also. We went out and fished the sunset and lost 3 before we boated a steelhead and a coho in 80 fow. Meat rig, rosta goose, green jeans, and bad toad all got bit at sunset.

a pair of 13 and 14 lb kings is a nice solo outing. those boys can be a challenge to get in the net. well done and thanks for the report.
