Marine Radio

Recommended Posts

The Radio in my boat that I put in a few years back has never transmitted very far. I can listen to other that are 5-8 miles away but, it will only transmit about 1 mile. I have an eight foot antenna. Dose the antenna have to be calibrated to the radio? It doesn't make any difference if it's on local or distance.

Any ideas or suggestions? The radio is an Icom.

Thanks.

Ken

Nailer - Did you check the radio/transmitter for impedence? They have to match or you won't get much. The transmitter literature should say what spec is required. (Also make sure that cable is all the way up inside the antenna.)

you did not by chance shorten your ANT. cable??? if you did it will affect your transmit/receive ability

I did not but I was thinking of doing it.

Priority1, I did solder the end on.

Long Line, How do I check the independence?

Glf, I check out the post, I may have to move the radio past that 3' mark and take about 20' of coiled up coax off.

Thanks all,

Ken.

Ken,

Locate the radio further than 3' away and try it before you cut the cable.
