zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Fished this evening with lines down at 5:30 till 10:00pm. Solo with a 3 rod spread, two riggers and one wire dipsey. Set up in 110FOW straight out of Holland and trolled south to 130FOW. Hardly a mark. Had a decision to make to stay inside or go outside. Decided to stay inside. Picked up a few marks at the bottom and lowered the rigger baits accordingly. Flipped around to a North troll once I reached Saugy working back and forth between 120 & 95 FOW. Ran SD/fly, several favorite mag Moonshine spoons, Brads Cut Plug, green J-plug, didn't bother bringing out the meat since it was crickets. A couple reports on 68 found coho in 200FOW. One 13# king was boated in 160FOW out of PS. I ended up with 2 small kings that hit the j-plug at 9:00pm (released) and the charged bloody nose on the dipsey rod at 9:30pm (kept). It was hot with no wind but surprisingly, no black flies. I think with the lake flipping back over, I should have ran out to deeper water. I was holding out the morning fish would still be hanging around. If they were, I could not find them or get them to bite. 3
jdh Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Was a tough bite for me tonight. I'm thinking I should have checked out 150-200 fow. 1
hear fishy fishy Posted August 8 Posted August 8 It was a slow evening also out of Holland. Marked a decent amount of fish and had the riggers go off a few times. Marked fish from 113 to 160. Bites were 80 and deeper. 1
littleboat Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I'm curious what was everyone's trolling speed?Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
BLP Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Same water and time as you Zgrinder and we went 4 fer 8 with all hits after the sun hit the water except laker we threw back earlier in the night. All fish came on south troll and we ran 2.5 on the gps as rods seemed to have the right bend. I have no speed/temp at ball. North troll we ran 2.8-3.1 to get bend to the rods.....no hits going north. Probably 70% of night trolled south and ended up just north of Saug. North troll didn't feel right so kept swinging back to the south. 113 FOW Rigger 75 down meat rig with pearl flasher was most active rod going 2 for 4 landing a 18 and 12lb kings 115 FOW Wire Diver 130 back (dialed 1.5) glow spoon 10lb king. Ran meat rig on this until dark with a then changed to glow spoon. Beautiful night. Wife made me wrapped it at 10:15pm with good marks on the graph. 1
DaTurdyPointer Posted August 8 Posted August 8 We had a similar experience speed wise out of port Sheldon. North troll had to give it a little gas, 2.8-3 sog. 3 of our 4 hits were on a north troll 2
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 On a dead South troll, I was running 2.3 and it bumped to 2.2 or 2.4 moving slightly east or west. North troll was 2.8 till I engaged the trolling valves that brought the speed down to 2.4. Both my hits were a north troll, J-plug 70ish feet at the ball and wire diver, 1.5, 130out or about 55 feet per Smart Troll. 1
