Navigator165
Holland - Distance off shore versus Depth Approximately how far off the Holland pier head would I be at 100-150 FOW? I'm trying to decide if it's something I want to tackle in a 16-1/2 boat. . . assuming calm seas.
Mega Byte
100 fow is 3.3 miles due west of the pier. 150 FOW is 4.4 miles west. (Based on Navionics chart app on my phone.)
Navigator165
Thanks Mega Byte. I think that's doable with reasonable weather.
ekbelt
I use this navionics website: https://webapp.navionics.com/#boating@9&key=sledGpbenO It includes depth charts. You can create a manual route and find out exactly how far it is to get there. Based on this app... 150 is about 4 miles out, and 100 is about 3 miles out. Creekerman
I used to go out of South Haven in my 15.5 footer with a 60 hp Mercury and 6 hp kicker to 200 FOW in calm water up to 2 footers without a problem. I'd recommend a radio and a smart phone with accuweather radar bookmarked to watch for what is coming.
Navigator165
Thanks Creekerman. I have everything you mentioned with the exception of the kicker. I know it's risky going out with only 1 power plant. Mine is a 70 hp Suzuki. It's been incredibly reliable but you just never know. I'd feel better if I had a 4 or 6 hp kicker.
