Advise needed for Port Sheldon this Thurs & Fri

Recommended Posts

Planning to tow the boat down to Port Sheldon to take some friends out.

Watching the weather close and both days look reasonable at this point. Was planning to go out to the 200 ft range to try for young Kings, etc..

Wondering what any of you who fish that Port regularly would suggest with the cold front going thru and North & NW winds between now and then.

Any help greatly appreciated to help make the best use of my limited time.

If your goal is to target the 2 yr old fish, start 120 to 150 fow NW troll. watch graph for bait and fish, once you pick up a couple turn a little more NNW to N. would not go past the 220 - 230 depth.

target 30 to 50 foot deep,

plugs, spinnies and spoons.

not sure on your setup, but here is my setup for next weekend

rigger 1 - wonder bread 8" paddle & WB fly down 50 Hot

rigger 2 - Spoon - moonshine

inside diver - on 1 100 - 200 back MT dew spin doc

outside diver - on 2.5 150 back blue splatter back spin doc

diver other side similar depth with mix of green spin doc or a plug

200 cooper - plug, crome w/red head

200 cooper - sliver horde green splatter

5 color mix veg spoon Hot.

5 color blue berry muffin or Area 51 both were hot last weekend.

Port Sheldon does not have much of a run of fish. If you're fishing the harbor, in any wind, Holland would be the best option. Saugy doesn't guve you much room to turn around; in Holland you can spin between the arms and in Lake Mac.

Buddy was out in 180-230' this morning and went 9/12 with a mature coho and 8 immature kings. The fish went deeper, a 450' copper (ouch) was their best rod.

Agree with above. Last Sat. we went 10-14. I usually start a little North, Off the stack, at around 190 work out to 230'ish. Fish steelhead 5 color, and higher lines w/ SS DOC, spoons off boards. 225' and 300' copper pulling glow spoon, and plug. Dipseys deep w/ flasher flies, and riggers running spoons deep.

Well we went down to Saugatuck to try the Kalamazoo River this morning. Went 3/5 with 2 male kings about 14lbs each, quite dark. The 3rd fish was a 35" Northern. The kings hit maroon Hot-N-Tot and Fire Tiger Thunderstick. The Northern took a Chrome/Black Hot-N-Tot. Hoping the forecast is close for tomorrow.
