  1. Well we went down to Saugatuck to try the Kalamazoo River this morning. Went 3/5 with 2 male kings about 14lbs each, quite dark. The 3rd fish was a 35" Northern. The kings hit maroon Hot-N-Tot and Fire Tiger Thunderstick. The Northern took a Chrome/Black Hot-N-Tot. Hoping the forecast is close for tomorrow.
  2. Thursday is starting to look rough. So will probably end up trying a channel or river. Any recommendations?? Saugatuck?? Holland?? Port Sheldon?? Other?? Friday looks like the Lake might be good. Thanks alot for your input Jon.
  3. Planning to tow the boat down to Port Sheldon to take some friends out. Watching the weather close and both days look reasonable at this point. Was planning to go out to the 200 ft range to try for young Kings, etc.. Wondering what any of you who fish that Port regularly would suggest with the cold front going thru and North & NW winds between now and then. Any help greatly appreciated to help make the best use of my limited time.
  4. Hoping to make a trip down to Port Sheldon/Holland area this Wed thru Sat morning:D. Weather is looking iffy but hope that calms down:cool:. Anybody with current advice on colors, depths, rigs, area, etc.. to start with Wed evening:confused:. Mark
  5. Managed a trip down to SW Mich for a few days. Original plan was to go out of Saugatuck but rain being more to the south on Thursday afternoon we opted to stay a little more to the north and went out of Port Sheldon. On the water at about 4 pm, washed lures for about 4-1/2 hrs from 65 fow out to 215 fow with only 1 bump. Finally at about 8:45 in about 90 fow we got a double (always fun with only 2 people onboard). While one of those two were still on the floor the SWR goes off again. (Green Coyote 8" Flasher / Green Fern Fly and Green Dolphin Mag were the best for us Thurs.) Ended the evening at 11:00 with 4 for 5. Rolled into bed at 1:30 am, alarm at 4:55am , check on weather and off to Port Sheldon again. Last fish thurs came at 63' so we dropped lines in 55' headed out fri morn. Looked like most boats were out in 150-200 fow. By the time we were getting our 4th line down one of the riggers took off, just grab that and the SWR is active. Steady action till about 7:30 and it shut right off. Picked up one more at about 10:00am. Ended the morning 6 for 9 (2 coho, 4 kings) Back to brother-in-laws for lunch & cleaning fish. Back to PS at 5:30 pm with a 3rd person on board. Ended Fri evening 2 for 3 and one of the worst Lead Core tangles I have ever had. (may explain why those lines were not active for the last hour or so. (Moonshine Mongolian Beef, Bloody Nose & Blue Dolphin were best, nothing on flies at all fri) Sat. a no go due to wind .
  6. Awesome! Nice Job. If the wind doesn't kick up to much hoping to be going out of Saugatuck Thurs, Fri & Saturday. Hope you leave something for us Dirty Dog.
  7. Can anyone tell me how the Salmon Fishing is going out of Charlevoix. Depth, colors, etc??? AM/PM??? Thanks, Gone Wishin'
  8. My usual Ports are Charlevoix and Elk Rapids but I try to get down to Holland/Saugatuck area a few times a year. I don't know how often it will be this year with the price of fuel. The truck gets thursty when pulling the rig. I really enjoy reading all the great reports on here and will definately call on the radio for you next time I am down that way 'Dirty Dog'. Gone Wishin
  9. After boat problems tuesday morning that left us sitting at the dock we made it out tuesday evening out of saugatuck. Went 4/4 on lake trout at about 50 feet of water. All looked in good shape as they swam away. After a couple of hours of that we started searching for something we could actually put in the box, but no luck. Wed. morning made it out again. But again Lake Trout only. Went 6 for 7. Six hits in 40-55 foot of water and 30-48 foot down on orange or yellow toned spoons. Seventh came in the mud line straight out from the pierhead in about 30 foot of water. Again spent several hours searching deeper and shallower for something to put in the box. Several of the Lake Trout were in the 30-32" (9-11 lbs)range. Tuesday evening was an awesome evening on Lake Michigan with a light haze and water as smooth as a swimming pool.
