Sounds like you had quite the crew out there. And if you have the right crew its always a good time even if the fish dont cooperate as youd hope...Nice job fellas and better luck next time.

Its too early to tell on the durability, but i expect it should hold up well. All welded aluminum, seems like a real nice unit. I talked with a gent from Standish who has already been using one and he absolutely loves his. Ill put it through a hell of a test out on the bay this winter and will comment on the durability and likes dislikes as i go.

Well, i just pulled the trigger and put on an Evolution Outdoors Sabre ATV mounted shanty yesterday morning. Installations was pretty easy, requires some fab as you have to get the bracket heighth right for your quad. Basically, gotta do some measuring, drilling and bolting together. This unit was very appealing to me because it is very light weight(only 32#!!! ), quite spacious, has a large bench seat, windows and the real kicker...the set up and take down is lightning quick. Maybe a minute on my first attemp. Im sure ill quicken that speed with use. Fits my run and gun style of fishing perfectly. It also leaves your rear rack wide open so you still have all that useable space for other gear. Plus if i want it off i just pop a couple pins and its off my machine completely with the exception of one bracket on the rear rack. If i wanted that off too, only a couple u-bolts to undo.....and its made in Michigan. Im really excited about this shanty and look forward to using it this season....Now i need that ice to thicken up on the bay!!! Cant wait to get out after em with my new toy.
Good luck when ya get out...Adam

Well thats a pretty good excuse, i guess we could let it slide...LOL...Nice job, awesome pics!

Im not a big fan of snow period, so i wouldnt make it on the west side. I only want snow for opening day of gun season so i can see the deer better and then once i have a foot of ice an inch or two for traction. Other than that, i dont need it...So about 4" for the year is plenty MA NATURE!!!

YUCK...Thats not good.

Well, not what you had in mind, but its always great to get out. Nice job, youll get some payback next time im sure.....I think its awesome those guys took the kids out fishing. Nothing better than that!

Very nice. My dad made some outta a material called viaseal, kind of a vinyl type material for his ice rods. I have the clam rod socks for my ice rods, never really used any for the open water. I know theyd be the catch meow though..Good post Peter.

It depends where i fish. Most inland lakes and river excursions im a walker as well as some of my Saginaw Bay outtings. Have walked all of a mile or more many times...and have been walking about 3/4 of a mile lately...I either pull my one man shanty with my gear or pack light using a back pack to haul my vex, lures and other tackle, rod bag with rods, and in one hand a bucket and the other a spud/auger. Other places a machine is a must IMO. The bay is a "machine fishery" if you ask me if you want to be succsessful consistantly.
In the end, ice fishing is no different than summer fishing IMV...if you wanna play the game you gotta spend some $$$. Todays transportation and technology only increase the quality of the experience as well as the haul at days end.

Your right there Dan....my Dad and Uncle often express those limitations to me though...They say im crazy...lol...Im that pup your training to stay, but breaks when you dont want it to...Thats how i am when theres good ice and fish under it! I just wanna go go go...I think i enjoy my icefishing as much as any fishing i do. I dont know what it is about pulling a fish through a hole in the ice, but it turns my crank!
Oh, was down to Linwood today, ice as far as you can see with the naked eye and a couple guys out about a 1/4 mile. Its time for me to do some recon on my own i think...Im hopin perch are whats for dinner!

Big numbers of fish, a good chance at a trophy, adventure, good comradere...what more can you ask for?
Its coming along, slowly but surely. That thaw and wind set us back on the west side. Blew the ice out. Usually mid January on the west side for ATV travel. So, we're about on par if we dont get bombed and the wind stays down and we get some cold.

You guys are obviously not taking advantage of the awesome opportunity our state has to offer. Theres some damn good fishin out there and its a ton of fun...Maybe im just a fishin nut, but i love it all. A 1 1/2# crappie on 2# line is all you want. Makes big runs and tears you up...Did i tell you about the world class walleye fishin on Saginaw Bay?
-
WTG Ken!...You "nailed" em'!
-
Buy some short rods, a flasher and go have some fun!...Ice fishin rocks!
