Not too bad of a day, there was a fairly stiff wind and it was definitely brisk out!
Anyhow, i dont wanna get this off topic, just wanted to share my experience and some photos of our outting for those interested in what a day on the ice with a group like this could be like. Its very enjoyable and if i can make the Muskegon outting i surely will.

Im looking forward to it as well. Cant wait.

Im not saying i wont come, but i know how i get once we have good ice here on the bay. Perch and gills can be jumping outta the hole, but i seem to abandon the pannies and chase those toothy critters.

Truth be told I actually do love catching gills, perch and pike through the ice...Its a riot infact and some damn fine eating as well. And the comradera is unmatched when you have an event like this. We had an outting with another site on the Bay last year and had a blast. My Dad and I cooked walleye on the ice, other members brought seasoned fries, cole slaw, jerky, homeade tartar sauces, beer, pop etc....Was a fantastic day on the ice. Fishing had been real good for me all week and we got the guys set up there, but as the fish always do, they throw ya a loop. Had to move a couple miles but got on em in the end and many of the guys went home with fish. Believe me, it was worth the trip if a fish wasnt caught. Got to meet allot of good folks and put a face with a name. Its nice knowing more loonies who love what you love.
I have no doubt the Muskegon Lake outing will be a hit with guys like Alleyes in attendance. Met Steve online and got the pleasure to meet him in person at the campground in Linwood and chatted with him more than once since. He's a first rate guy.Heres some pics from our outting last year for anyone that may be on the fence about an event like this. Its a good time.

Heres the 4 i caught before i took the Ohio boys back in to shore. Came back out and caught one more to finish off my limit and also landed a sublegal.

Thanks for the report Bob. I need to get up there, still havent made it up there yet. Deer been giving me fits.

Well, either we're both right or both wrong Mike, but my map reading skills reveal the very same thing. And my thoughts were exactly the same about why only a portion of this canal was treated and not the entire thing.

Sounds good, thanks Bob

Little Atom makes some fantastic plastics as does Maki Plastics. I dont have their website, just google Maki Plastics or Loby Baits and you should be able to come up with them. They both have great movement and some awesome creatures that gills love to slurp up!

Thats a great post Jim. One way to use that organization to do some good. I agree, fill the canal in. No reason they cant bring the cargo so far then transfer it to a loading dock and put it back on another boat and send it to its destination. Sure, theres more cost to doing this, but it creates more jobs for our bad economy and protects our great lakes resources. I think the added costs is a price well worth paying.

Thanks for the report Capt. Happy Holidays and good luck with the conditions and the fishing.
-
I agree, i hope he can get it shut down. That would be fantastic. No reason they couldnt fill the end of that canal in and the ships could bring the cargo that far then offload it to a ship thats on the great lakes...Problem solved.

I like Rat Finkies, Marmooska Jigs, Fiska and Marmish jigs, Diamond Jigs, and shad dart jigs tipped with waxies, maggots or plastics.

I fished on Lake Hurons Saginaw Bay out of the ports of Linwood and Augres. and Lake Michigan out of Manistee and Ludington.

Nice job in some ugly conditions Dan...BRRR

Usually mid January on Saginaw Bay for ATV travel around the Linwood area. Hit the ice January 15th last year up on Wigwam bay. Had about 8" of ice. But, its all dependant on temps, wind and snowfall.

Well good luck then....lol

Nice lookin rig, very clean. Good luck with the sale.

I like those Lightning Rods. My buddy has the 8'6" telescoping model on his boat. I think he gets his at Franks Scott. You may want to check there.

Its really sad to see so many going outta state because theyre fed up with our hunting situation here. I seen on the news the other night that license sales were down 40,000 this year. Man thats allot! Im sure the economy has allot to do with, but some of its not.
Hows the deer herd in West Branch doing? I noticed they havent had antlerless permits the last couple seasons, so i suspect its way down. Thats where my lease was and the last couple years the hunting was going downhill in that area. Couple that with the high rent and thats why i didnt renew my lease. Plus the landowner wouldnt allow us to do anything on the property to help improve the hunting. Wanted to plant food plots etc, but we couldnt. Lotta great memories up there and at one time, a ton of deer. I miss the good old days up there.

Nice job Dan. Keep that fish pump runnin'!

Id pick Illinois, then Canada then the LP....LP is good if you have a place to go. But with allot of the land being private its tough to get a good spot with our rich deer hunting tradition. And as for the state ground, talk about preasure, ecspecially in the southern portion of the state. Im seriously considering hanging up deer hunting in our state and spending some money each year to head out of state for a couple weeks and have a quality hunt. Then just waterfowl hunt the rest of the season here. Since i give up my lease because of a $$$ greedy landowner and hunt on others land where i get the leftover spots my interest in deer hunting has declined severely. Im just not satisfied with the quality of the hunt anymore. Sad considering there was a time when i was fanatical about chasing them.

Redfish(However I can not wait for the Crappie bite down here!)
