  1. Made it out to fish lake In orangeville after church yesteday morning for an afternoon of fishing. Took a limit 24 gills and one perch in the mix from 2 pm to 5 pm. South end east side 25' of water. fish were suspended between 10' and 18'. all fish were caught at these depths, nothing on the bottom. Most of the gills were around 7" with a couple of 8" to 9" and the perch was about 8". they were running a little smaller then last week.had to do a small amount of sorting to get a limit of keepers. Green and gold backed moonglow with white face and a red dot with one mousie and a pink glow spike was best bait combo. Saw one pike caught by another fisherman was 32" as I saw him scale it as there is a 30" minimum on fishlake.
  2. After scoping out fish lake on Sat evening decided to hit it again yesterday afternoon after working all day with my oldest son and ended up with 34 nice gills in about 1 and a half hours. Again 25 to 30' down. Green was still the good color fishing right on the bottom. The fish were a little more aggressive as we had action from 3:45 righ to dark. only one other guy out there and he was leaving with a limit as we were comming out.Gills ranged form 7 to one whopper 11 incher caught by my son with atleast 5 others bing in the 9" range. all in all a fun afternoon.
  3. Had to work yesterday so went home after work and ran over to Fish lake in Orangeville. Ice is ok but not very thick. about 3 to 4 inches of good black ice but use caution around the edges as I herd some crackling sound walking threw the cattails. South end west side of the bay or rather boatlaunch side ended up with 13 very nice gills in about 30' of water. fishing was slow but at 5.00 pm they turend on the dinner bell. 3 other gentlemen were out there and did about the same as me. all fish were caught in about a 45 min window between 5 and 6 pm. white and green #12 demon jig the good color. fished it next to an orange with no hits on the orange. other guys were also fishing green. I dont catch alot of fish out of this lake but what I do catch is usally worth the trip. gills averaged 8 to 9 inches. no bigger no smaller.
  4. I have the same deal. it is one of those primos popup blinds and its roomy but wind is a problem. So what I did was cut a piece of ply wood the dimensions of the blind and where the stakes go threw the gromits in the corners used some bungie tie downs so I could quickly strap it down or take it off of the board. I out four six inch round holes in each corner and myself and my son can fish in it comfortabley. if you want you could just lag bolt it to the ply wood and build some skis on it. I just did it that way so the plywood can sit on top of my jet sled
  5. Thanks for the tip. I actually talked with the captain and first mate and did exactly what you stated. I told them exactly what I was looking for. I told him I was not into bottom fishing on reefs and that I wanted to go after big fish. So that is what we are doing. We are going to target Wahoo,Tuna,King Mackeral, sailfish and most of all Blue and Black Marlin. I cant wait. This will be the fishing trip of a lifetime for me and I have been on many fishing trips. I have been running a mile a day for a month and lifting weights. My kids said dad its good that you are jogging on the treadmill. I replied,"Jog Hell! thats flat out sprinting for me".
  6. I have actually looked at the web sites you posted. I did find a 80 catamaran charter called the Booze cruise. Its 3 hour evening boat ride up and down the Isaland coast for 75 a person and all you can drink. Depending on my mood I can drink 75 bucks easlily in 3 hours but its been many years since i gave up power drinking.
  7. In april My wife and i are heading down to punta cana in the Dominican republic. I told her the only way I would go is if I could go on a deep sea fishing trip. So I have one booked. Here is the web site of where i am going. I have never been fishing on any big water othere then the Great lakes as I am a michigan native. http://www.firstclassfishing.com/ My question is, about tipping in another country. Is 20% the standard from a global stand point or is it higher. Depending on how well we do 20% woudl be around $400 as this is a 10hr vip charter.
  8. I acutually have a cabin about 45 min south of Hamlin and want to try and make it up there sometime this winter to try for some perch. thanks for the info.
  9. I noticed it about a month ago. with in the last two weeks you could not access anything, as all of the message boards stated "under construction". I tried to access it a week ago but I cant remember my password as I dont frequent that site very often.
  10. Ended up having family chrismans at my house on sat,so did not make it out. I did make it out on to Beard's cove on Gun lake friday eve to test the ice. A good 4 to 5 inches of ice on the bay of solid black ice, but the ice is weak up by shore. onece you get 24 to 30' from shore, no worries. but use a spud up by shore. nice thing it only foot deep. ended up with one flag and a 20 inch pike, 1 perch and 3 bluegills. only fished for about 1 hour and 15 min as I did not want to navigate the ice in the dark this early in the year. There were also guys out on long lake over in yankee springs and also there were guys fishing out on Deep lake. Just saw them driving buy so not sure what they were catching if anything.
  11. thanks for the report. i just purchased # 12 orange and white demons also the green and white in 12 and 10. I was told that these were the ticket for blue gills.
  12. My son and I might see ya out there. Swan is always good for first ice to get on.
  13. Spent last weekend going threw all the icefishing equipment and relining rods and reals, tipups etc. Now just need ice. 14. Hello to all Havent posted for a while as I have sent the last 5 months coaching football and basketball. But our seasons are finally over as Jr High ended there basketball season this week. Now Its time to get excited for hard water fishing. Any reports to the north of good Ice yet? Am going to spend my weekend getting equipment ready and maybe head out and pick up a new vexlar. Last year I spent alot of time on the ice and before lastyear I had gone maybe 3 times in 10 years. l Looking forward to some tasty bluegills.
  15. I think we are all being duped in the name of selling licenses . I normally see on a slow year anywere from 50 to 60 deer running around in small heards in my area. this year I have seen no more then 2 to 3 at a time. Cross bow hunting along with the early doe season has taken its toll on my area and if you look at my area it is considered prime habitat. Neighbors selling his 38 acres and leased it to some folks from the city and they took 8 small does during early doe season with cross bows. along with an ever increasing amount of poaching going on in my area with cross bows. I belive that was half the doe populating for my hunting area. Top that with less enforcement due to budget cuts and you have the perfect formula for wiping out our deer heard which is were I belive we are headed. Some areas you see alot of deer but it is very isolated. but even in those areas not hunted I see alot less deer then in prevous years. I think it will have to get really bad before it will get fixed.
  16. J1Musser. Nice buck. That should be a good eater.
  17. Yes so to speek I want a smaller boat. 18 to no more then 19ft with 4stroke outboard. We have a cabin on a small lake up north and I dont want to pull my kids around in my 18' John boat anymore. I have it set up for pan fishing and duck hunting and everytime they want to tube I have to pull stuff on and off so it does not get broke. I also want a boat that trailers a little better. Put on 2 riggers and run the rest copper lead and wire.I have been looking at makos, cobias, polars, keywest, lunds and crestliners. But it doesnot make much sense to buy another boat while I currenly own 3. want to get one boat that does all except the duckhunting part. I have a 12' john boat that I actually like better because the bigger john boat is harder to get where i want to hunt. I use to think bigger is better but now that Im older I want smaller and more convieninet and less work to take care of.
