  3. Today was the day of lost fish. Started off at 5am in 90fow where there were a TON of marks. Worked this area for a hour without even a release. Moved out to 170 where the action began. We probably took between 10-15 hits and could only land a couple smallish lakers and a cookie cutter king. 80% of the hits we missed were on my brand new wire divers out 250 & 300 with flasher flies (hot). It seems as if every fish was hitting the fly weird. Because the hit would be intense but the fight would only last about 10 seconds and then pop off! It was extremely frustrating. We tried loose and tight drags to no avail. The lakers and kind came on a big paddle down 110. On top of the lost fish the speed they wanted was very weird. We were going about 2.1 SOG to the south to get hits. Much slower than the 2.7ish I normally go. All in all we were on the fish with nothing to show.. also gonna upgrade my drags to Tuna toms carbon fiber ones. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  5. What depth? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  6. Sounds like they're still getting fish further north. So I'm assuming that huge pod we had moved north. I bet the more stable water out in 200+ still has fish. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  7. I should be out Friday morning and Saturday evening. I'll be sure to call out on 68 Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  8. Started the day off a bit later than we wanted but I keep forgetting how early first light is. Went off nicks earlier report of possible kings by the piers so at 7am we set in front. Not a few moments after setting the first downrigger it took off! Landed a very solid king. Made an quick circle and again another king! However this one unbuttoned due to poor netting :/. We kept making circles in 30-35 fow and had 5 fish in 2 hours in front. Decided to pick up and then run out to 110 where we immediately took another very solid king. We stayed at that depth all morning taking another 5 fish until the waves built due to the approaching weather. So here's what worked. Direction didn't really matter. Going south 2.5 SOG worked best. Shallow: BLL hawg wild rigger 15 & 20 - 2 kings 1 coho 2 shakers Deep: BLL electric lemonade MAG - 1 coho Rigger 71 with white flasher UV aqua fly - 1 king Low Dipsy 131 back silver flasher UV aqua fly - laker/ king 300 cu SOG froggie 1 king Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  9. Very interesting to see most of those kings look like they're clipped. Last year 90% of my fish were wild Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  10. I'm gonna try to head out in the morning. Was everyone still in that 130-150 range? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  11. Yeah I've never used his spoons up until that day with Greek. However my theory (nothing against the spoons) is that because they flutter so easy compared to metal spoons they keep their action in the pretty wicked currents we were seeing. At one point in time we were going 3.2 SOG to get the 2.3 at the ball we were looking for and without a fish hawk you would have never of known. And metal spoons could have been dead in the water. 12. Greek, thanks for bringing me along. The little C dory is one capable boat for the size and makes me want to start thinking about trading up haha. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  13. Also what radio channel do people use out of south haven? There were 5 other boats that I could see but I couldn't get a radio check. Wondering if it's my radio or wrong channel.. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  14. Yup! I used the north side cleaning station. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  15. Couldn't get a crew for the morning shift but found someone willing to take a PM run. Launched around 3ish and found ourselves going thru the pier heads in 1-2 foot rollers. Safe in my 16' er but not very fun. Started in 40 fow straight out on a north troll into the waves. Immediately took a small shaker king putting out the 225 cu. kept going out until 80 fow but lost most of the marks around 60. turned back in and hit a large n feisty laker in 50 going south. Trolled in 40-50 fow with plenty of marks going south. We took 4 more kings. 2 solid fish and 2 smaller. No pattern on spoon color or size or depth. Water temp was 48. 16. Slept in this morning. Lines set by 9am in 200 straight out on a SW troll with the rest of the fleet. Didn't start taking hits till 220ish. 2.6-2.8 SOG. Got a hit about every 20 minutes for a few hours. Then decided to try in shallow for a couple kings. Trolled all the way into 120 with marks here and there but no takers. Finished 6-6 and probably could have got 6 more if we stayed out deep. Anything above 81 feet took a hit with no pattern on spoons. Mini's and mags went. Can't wait for the kings to arrive Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app

  19. Either 8'6" downrigger or copper variants. Or 3 of the same type of rods. Need them for lead-core reels. I do not need the reels. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  20. Battery cover connections? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  21. Do any of you guys put 10-15' of mono in between the end of the wire and the swivel that attaches to the dipsy so you can break you rods down without worrying about the wire kinking? I don't really have the option to not break them down after each trip. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  22. No actually. Looking at the radar I thought we were going to get soaked but it was just a shower every once in a while. My buddy hit the kzoo river this morning and said it was still empty so hopefully this water cools down and we can hit the piers. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
  23. Started the morning off at 6am. From a previous post I decided to go deep. Got to about 95' when we started marking fish. Didn't even have all the lines in the water and we had one on. From there on out we took a fish about every 30-40 minutes. Not exactly fast and furious but that's good enough for me. What worked: Yellow dolphin 225cu 3/4 Yellow frog rigger down 50 1/1 Flounder pounder down 91 0/1 Mixed veggies 300cu 0/1 I could only get a hit on a north/NE troll. Anything else and they wouldn't hit. Ended up with 2 steel and 2 griller kings. Lost two more same kings at the back due to poor netting. Overall it was a pretty nice morning.
