  1. Last late start for Neil and me! Cleared river at 0800hrs. Sat down in 60 fow and started a six rod spread. Boxed a Laker in 65fow on a mag diver at 1 ½ out 125’, DW Green Dolphin at 0815hrs. Lost a fish on 250x30 w/ Mix Veggie in 80fow. Trolled out to 90 and back to 65. On the turn back out we boxed a King on the 250x30 CU w/ Mixed Veggie. Back out in 85fow lost another fish on the same 250x30. Turned around at 120, pulled a DR and layed out a shute mono line w/ a Fire Tiger crank bait back “409”and boxed a Ho at 100fow. Not another hit on the way back to 65fow and pulled lines. Lesson Learned; always carry enough fuel to get out to 200fow and back because that was the flattest water I have seen this year. Martin
  2. Tom, Ain't never fished that far north but we might try it some weekend. Keep the reports coming. Thanks, Martin
  3. "The pro am tournament is going on." That's why I haul my retired butt out during the weekday. Martin
  4. That's a nice stack of "grease". I was planning to head W/NW but a few too many boats for me, since I was solo, so I ducked W/SW. and open water. If you did in fact catch the last two Kings in the lake, guess I'll have to develop a laker program. Did you clear the river about 0830hrs. The guy in the stringer picture looked familiar ? Martin
  5. Cleared the river at 0900hrs, powered to 60fow head W/SW. 3 Rod Spread, 250x30 copper, mag diver out 125’, DR down 60’ with free slider. Trolled east/west at 2.3-2.5sog 250x30 w/ standard DW Green Dolphin= 1 13.9# King in 82fow, 1 Laker in 60fow Diver at 125’ on 1&1/2 w/ standard DW Blue Dolphin= 1 Laker in 60fow The two greasers came as a double as I was getting ready to clear lines. Most arches hugging the bottom, no bait balls. Most boats were fishing 65-75fow Good luck to you weekenders. Martin
  6. ONE sure beats the heck out of a skunk. I have never targeted lakers but it looks more and more like the only game in town. Ain't got any spin n glo's but I've got 2 sets of cowbell I guess I'll have to break out. Have a great season, Martin
  7. A nice thing about being retired, you can go fishing on a moments notice. Couldn’t pass up the gentle water today. Late start, short trip. All the fish came on a West troll at 2.5sog in 65-80fow. 2 doubles. Trolled back from 95fow to 55fow, not a touch. 250x30# CU with a standard Stinger Mixed Veggie= 1 laker Flasher Fly down 65’, large Pro Troll w/ missing E-Chip, Tomix Fly, My Green and Red UV leader = 1 laker Braided diver with mag ring out 125, Dolphin spoon= I laker, 1 king. Martin
  8. I finally installed the 7oz weights with the mag rings on my wire divers. I know they have been around for a while so I’m looking for pro/cons on this application, other than upgrading my rods. Do they really accomplish the 2 to 1 dive ratio? Martin
  9. I'm glad ya got out, at 0600hrs it was 20* at my house, good morning to go back to bed. Thanks for the report. Matin
  10. Well it was a good idea but I’m going to have to withdraw the offer due to the pending weather report. Just a little too daunting for me and my grand-daughter, but thanks for your interest. But I will be looking for riders during the nicer weather and I will post those openings in the proper forum. Martin
  11. Pilot/Fish catching Net man wanted. Target species; Coho, Steelhead I’m hoping to launch out of SJ. Tuesday morning the 5th @0800hrs. w/ my visiting 11 year old grand-daughter. She is an accomplished fisherman, her daddy boats a 36’ Tiarra. A simple morning of trolling between the pier head and the “Wall” dragging proven ART Thin Finns, jointed Rapalas , maybe even a #3 Red Fire Tiger j-plug, orange BJ’s and one or two 000-stop-n-go’s. All you’ll need is a civil tongue in your mouth, your water/coffee and your NEW fishing license. And “you keep what you Kill” so you might want to bring a cooler. If interested, drop me a message or an e-mail with your contact info. Martin
  12. When I started fishing for whites I was a “light-line†guy with flimsy rods for stealth and fun. But it didn’t take long to change my approach on whites. 1st. I hate having to net every fish no matter how small it was. Or having to waste time untangling a sinker from the net. Or having to spend time using hemo’s to unhook a gut-hooked fish. Or changing out leaders because of rock/zebra nicks. So I kicked it up several notches. My basic set-up is 4ft x 12# leaders, 1&12-2oz slide sinkers with #6 or #4 hook depending on what type of 3 boiled eggs I’m using on the bottom, King vs Coho and a 10ft medium rod w/ 20# braided main line and I’ll “Lift†a lot of the fish. With the longer leader the fish can gulp the bait and the sinker doesn’t get tangled in the netting, and with the heavier leader most of the time I can just jerk the hook out of the fish. And my rod spread is generally 2 rods w/ boiled eggs, wigglers, leaf worms or wax worms and 1 rod w/ fresh roe on an egg-loop. I've seen so many guys setting the hook that they look like a bass fishermen. You don't have to because with a 4ft leader 99% of the time they will be gut-hooks. And all my reels are “set†bait-runners just in case I hook into one of those pesky steelhead. But that’s just my way. There ain’t no right/wrong way as long as you are out there having fun. Martin
  13. Dan, thanks for that link. I did try it. Over the years I have tried several ACID cures. It's a lot more time consuming that the ole "Boil'em up" method. Drove around 2 of the pier head systems here in the southern basin and the water temps still registering 57* and 58* on the bottom. Those are great temps for summer run steelhead but a bit warm for whites. Another 10*s cooler and it's game on. Martin
  14. Sure hope ya got your eggs boiled/colored/scented. It won't be long now. Martin
  15. We'll see ya next spring. Have a safe winter. Martin
  16. Well we tried it again, Today WAS my last run out of St. Joe this year. Marked a lot of arches but I have to wonder how many of those arches were this type of fishes. Both were caught on the same 3-color with a modified Mongoose J-plug in 40fow. Martin
  17. Yeah, 2-4's, that's why we pulled lines at 1000hr. Just a little too bumpy in "Eleanor"
  18. Cleared the Black River about 5:45 headed W/Sw. Dropped in at 50fow. Good thermo reported at 55fow. 1st DR down 50’ w/ DW Green Dolphin. As I grabbed the 1st Cu. rod the DR fires, it was in the water less than a minute, nice little 5-6# Ho. Then we netted a 19.8# Greaser on a 250x45# Cu. w/ a mag Yellowtail. Next net job came on another “HOâ€, 6-7# on a 200x30# Cu. w/ a the other Grn Tiger “Jâ€. All within 1/2hr, 50-65FOW. Everythig was GLOWING. Trolled out to 110 and back in with 2 short rips on boards but no hook-ups. And the weather guessers were wrong again about 1ft or less. The larger “HO†was a hen. Martin
  19. Good looking fish there Tom. After 2 years of nothing, my NBK's are starting to be a "go-to" spoon. Wife in the boat, not a chance here!!!!!! Martin
  20. things just didn't work out for us this morning. Happy to read you got after them. A SHEEPHEAD !!!!!!!!! There goes the neighborhood. Martin
