  1. well i put the boat to bed today, hence the sad part of the title. while winterizeing i was thinking about how this motor runs good but still has a shake or vibration or excess shimy however you want to put wich drives me crazy. this boat is a 72 reinell with a 165 horse straight 6 mercruiser. thinking about maybe doing some cosmetic and structual work on it this winter and if i end up pulling the motor any one know what a rebuild on this would cost or should i run it til it dies or repower ??? my plan is to get a biger boat and slip it on the biglake and only use this boat here in the bay so it would not get that much use. any thoughts ??

  2. it was the MS HAMBURG anchored in GT BAY . According to the paper and the coast guard - it is a german based passenger ship that left montreal on sept 24th now returning to her home port with stops at mack island and kingston on the way. It was these german based ships that first started comeing into the bay several years ago. At times they would run tenders to shore for shopping trips.

  3. Go take a look at the wier in tc its full. But dont be fooled there are still fish in the hole. I have a buddy who fishes everyday in the hole monday he was 6-15

monday morn is when we saw the most cought mon pm we had action i consider it slow and was at the weir yesterday i dont call that full at all. the pens could hold many more and i have saw many more down below than there is now just my opinion but i have saw lots more fish down there at this time of year.

  4. slow fishing is the word from traverse city. spent lots of time on west bay the last couple days. all the other boats were haveing the same or less success

mon am -saw a couple cought at daybreak in the hole we toughed it out til 11 then got a king as we pulled lines 50 down rigger pearl dodger green squid.

mon pm-not a hit for anyone until last half hour. we went 2/2 one glow plug on rigger other glow green hooch and squid braid diver 100 back.

tue am not a hit til 8;45 lost one that got in a rigger cable hit a red meat rig (only meat hit of the trip) behind a silver echip 110 back on the diver.

went to frankfort for lunch to rough over there so back to tc for the only skunk of the trip on tue pm.

wend am -started not marking much and no hits with nobody else hooking up,surface temp was the same 61 but figured the nonstop south wind blew some warm water out so ran a homemade glo plug at 25 on a rigger for one king then 1/2 on green splater back plug at 20 ft on a rigger all around 8am trolled to 11 no other hits. called it a day and maybe a season.

  5. simmer down people, no drugs or drink involved ? he wants to get his people in and on the way asap . yep probably if it was your tiara on the rocks you would say yep should have done something different. make it a learning thing and dont kick him any more while he is down. i cant take any more of this story that has nothing to do with catching fish good luck and god bless all :)

  6. went over on a non fishing trip yesterday very slow. most boats had one that was cought right around 6 am then nothing. no one fishing the harbor though and some guys who got 2 out deep dropped lines on way in after seeing lots of marks in the harbor. they had 3 hits that they could not stick and then had to get home.fishing here in tc about the same best i have heard is 3 tourny this weekend.

  7. Thank you Trina that information is helpful. We fished the Benzie Frenzie this passed weekend and had a hard time getting 10 fish. On Sunday we had to cases where boats next to us were bringing in fish and fish, and we only managed 2. On area was West Platte. We worked the 90-130 side of the drop off.

    Justin

justin how was the fishing overall ? i looked for results of the frenzie but they are not online yet.

  8. probably dealing with a couple things here. first any legaly set net -by whomever must be totaly properly marked and it is illegal to tamper with such. the coast gard and dnr i think ? tried to get a lot of nets that were for lack of better term on the loose. this was after the guy who set them went to prison. from what i heard most of those were around the ludington area. would make me nervous to do it in my boat but as i refer to above we went right into a tribal marina last year( friend boat who does not fish but wanted to eat a couple) and the net was right across the entrance went right over dont know how far it was from the surface but we were only in about 25-30 FOW. we have no choice to live with it ? but i sure dont like it.

  9. glad you made out as good as possible. another post on here about unmarked nets out of whitehall. i dont care what anyone says we need this kind of stuff to stop, and no more excuses by the tribe, non tribal comm. fisherman or the dnr. it our license money planting the fish they are catching-and yes dont tell me about whitefish and the fed planted laketrout i will take you 15 miles from where i live and show you salmon in the nets.

  10. Magda's are not so great. Convectors are good and I really like the Cold Water series.

The Diawa's are good too. I have 3 old Penns that refuse to die.

For rods I don't think you can beat the value presented by the Traverse Bay Tackle brand sold at MC Sports up in Traverse City. I think it's a private label line for that store only. The quality is great and the price for both Dipsey and rigger rods is as good as I've found on anything, anywhere.

thanks heaterman now they will raise the price and sell out, the cats out of the bag. i have only used the rigger rods and yes i love them.
