  1. Thanks guys. I have the itch SO BAD that I almost can't stand it! As for a name, I still can't decide. Billy V II is a possibility. So is Billy Ben Fishin' (thanks Longline!)
  2. Tim, Wish I could make it, but just can't. We'd love to see notes from the meeting if you have them!
  3. We plan to be at the Bar with it this spring. I'm taking delivery of it the day before we plan to be there...keep your fingers crossed for me that it goes well! And believe me, I looked long and hard for a hard-top, but I just couldn't pass this one up.
  4. She's a 29' Penn Yan 288 Predator. She has twin 350's and an 11' beam. She currently has a Lowrance LCX-15MT Sonar, a Garmin 182 GPS w/blue chip, a Moor Sub-Troll 900 speed & temp, and 3 Cannon Mag 20's. I'm having an overhead rod rack being built that will have 12 rocket launchers on it and Big Jon planer reels. I also plan to add a Simrad AP14 autopilot, and to upgrade the sonar to either a Lowrance LCX 37c or 112c and ultimately tie into a Lowrance radar. We'll also be adding some Traxtech rod holders on each side in place of the single holders that are there now. C'mon Spring!!!
  5. I talked to Dave Mull at GLA and he said they've had a lot bigger issues with it than they originally thought. The site still isn't up and running. He didn't have a forecast for it coming back up.
  6. My first one on Lake Ontario is April 14th. Sure hope we can get the boat out of the barn by then...there's soooo much snow!
  7. Lots of intrest so far...lots of registration forms left too!
  8. Longline, I JUST saw your response....pretty funny! I'm still undecided about what to do for a name....
  9. Glad you're here Brian! We all look forward to your input.
  10. Welcome Ray. Look forward to hearing from you!
  11. C'mon Spring! It's been in the mid-upper 40's here for two days, but we still have a LONG way to go before ice-out.
  12. Dan, We plan to be staying at Wilson Boat Yard, but its kind of up in the air for us now. I sold the 24' Penn Yan, and we hope to take delivery of the new one on Friday, May 4th. If all goes well with the delivery and the weather, we plan to be there that afternoon and there thru the weekend, maybe even into Tuesday or so depending on how the fishing is. We're keeping our fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly! :good:
  13. 2nd Annual Shawn’s Marina Springtime Brown Trout Derby Sat. & Sun., April 28-29, 2007 Fair Haven, NY This is a FUN derby and get-together. Last year we had so much fun that we've decided to do it again and to open it up to a lot more people. This is a great way to catch up with old friends and to make some new ones. You may fish out of any port you wish, but all fish must be weighed at Shawn's Marina in Fair Haven by the specified cut-off times. Prizes awarded for Top 3 heaviest Brown Trout. 100% cash payout, minus picnic/admin. costs. Entry fee: $10/person Entry fees must be paid in full prior to fishing on Saturday. Fishing commences at 5:30am each day. This is an on-your-honor rule. All NYS fishing regulations will be in effect. All fish must be weighed in by 3:00pm on Saturday and by 12:00pm on Sunday. No exceptions! There will be a picnic/awards ceremony at Shawn's beginning at noon on Sunday. All boats are encouraged to bring a dish to pass. For a registration form or to ask a question, email me at [email protected] Hope to see you there!
  14. I was in Fair Haven today to clear the snow off the roof of my camper. There has to be 4 ft. of settled snow in town. And to think we're the LUCKY ones...the folks in Oswego got hammered with snow....upwards of 120"!! Here's some pics of my shoveling adventures today:
  15. If you guys want browns, you ought to come to Lake Ontario in the spring. After a few down years, we have LOTS of 'em!!
  16. Last year with 4 riggers on my old boat, I was running them on my stern riggers. I'll have some in chrome this year, but I also plan to paint a couple of them black for stealth presentations. The best part about them is that our our way where we often have to fish 100 ft down or more, they really track straight and reduce blowback to almost zero. Especially with the 15# Sharks.
  17. I'd go with the 4 footers too. My new ride has 3 Cannon Mag 20's on it and it has an 11' beam, but I still plan on running the outdowns out 4' on each side. The more room you have, the more room you have!
  18. I'm gonna go a bit against the grain in this thread and say that in my opinion, down speed and temp are the single most important pieces to the trolling puzzle. Especially speed. There is no way to tell what your lures are doing down 120 ft. without knowing what the speed at the lure is. I suppose you can use a thumper rig to find your speed, but that is an in-exact science at best. With a good probe like the Moor Sub-Troll 900 like I have, you can dial in your down speed without any doubt. In my opinion, there's no need to troll in the same direction all day when you know your down speed. Got a good bite going at 2.25mph and just passed over a huge school of kings? Turn around and go back through them at 2.25mph again and again and again. Underwater currents are a huge issue on Lake Ontario, and I can tell you from experience that without my Moor, there are definitely times that I'd be WAY off on my down speed. There are multiple layers of current out there, and there are definitely times when my cables are blown way back by the upper most current, but my lures are only turning 1.5 mph at the ball due to a lower layer of current that is moving in a different direction. In that scenario, without my Moor, I'd be slowing down, when what I really need to be doing is speeding up! For my money, a Sub-Troll is at least as important as a good fish finder. I have my Moor in the water all day, every day without fail.
  19. 1. Dark 2. Bright 3. Bright 4. Any day (better with two ladderbacks and a yellow eye!!) 5. Any day 6. Dark 7. Dark
  20. My first son is named William J. Ruth V, and as a joke a friend started calling him Billy V, even though we call him William. I decided to name the boat after him and it's just stuck. Then little brother Ben came along unexpectedly....not sure what to do about this... Do I keep the Billy V name for the new boat I just bought or do I name is something else to keep both of my kids names involved? The charter business is called Billy V Sportfishing..... Any suggestions?
  21. We're talking about the Shark Cannonballs. www.sharkcannonballs.com.
  22. Hitman, you are 100% correct. Those are the differences.
  23. We LOVE our brown trout fishery in the spring! There really is no better place on the entire lake to go after them than where we are. If we need spring Salmon, we just head out to the Bar with you guys. We manage to get down deep and take our fair share of Kings all summer & fall. You should've seen your face last year when I told you we had to run 150' of cable out! I thought you were gonna fall out of the boat!!! And yes, the Sharks will definitely help reduce the blowback. Can't wait to get those shiny suckers wet!
  24. It's looking like that might be the plan Bro....since the old one sold today....!!!   So you're saying we have an unfair advantage in Fair Haven since there's so many fish there??????
