  11. Mike, I've owned 'em both and the Depth Raider is FAR SUPERIOR to the Fish Hawk. And changing out the coated cable really is no big deal. There's a quick disconnect right at the rigger, so taking it off is no problem at all. I have a million things on my "to-do" list, but the major ones are: 1. Install the new Furuno 585 that just arrived yesterday! That thing is SWEET! Mounting the thru-hull transducer is the part that I'm nervous about. 2. Install a new GPS/Chartplotter. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should go with the Eagle Intellimap 500C I bought, or upgrade to a Lowrance 7200C. I'm leaning heavily towards the Lowrance. If I do decide to upgrade, I'll have the Eagle for sale, brand new in the box for cheap. 3. Repair my rocket launcher. Stainless is sitting in my shop just waiting for a rainy day. 4. Poli-Glow the hull. I've read a ton of good things about the stuff and I think I'm gonna go for it. 5. I may also have the seats & bolsters re-upholstered. They're getting a little bit tired for my liking, but that's an expensive project! If cash-flow allows it, I'll have them done. If not, we'll get after it next year. Everything other than that is minor, but I could easily take up several weekends getting things just so on the boat!
  12. Yeah, I've had the Depth Raider since spring...LOVE IT! Just finally getting around to selling the FH.
  13. I have a Raytheon 425 RC on my boat now. It's an OK unit, but I frankly liked my Eagle Intellimap that was on my last boat better. The Ray I have is monochrome and the Eagle is a sunlight viewable color LCD, which is an amazing screen. I also like the Lowrance/Eagle menus a lot better than the Ray menus. I find them a lot easier to navigate through. The new Lowrance units have high pixel count screens and look fantastic. I bought an Eagle Intellimap 500c to replace the Ray, but have recently been thinking of going bigger to the Lowrance 7200, so I may have the Eagle for sale, brand new in the box. Good luck in your search!

  16. Good idea on the screwdriver! Thanks.
  17. I've used them. They work nice. I did, however, find a couple of things about them that I didn't like. First off, Dipsy Divers use a flat bladed screwdriver to adjust the release tension and the directional weight on the bottom. The Walker uses a phillips head. So when I'm using both the Walker and a Dipsy, I need to have two types of screwdrivers at hand. Not a huge deal, but a bit of a pain in the butt...."Has anyone seen the Phillips head???" The second thing, and this may have been an isolated incdent, but I had the welded ring on the back of my Walker break open and it cost me a fish. I'm not sure if that's been a problem area with them or if I simply got a bad weld on the one that broke. Other than those two issues, I liked the fact that there wasn't a ring to deal with, I liked the release, and the directional weight on bottom kind of ratchets into position which I like better than the dipsy, which just slides and often moves from the position I set it at. Bottom line for me is that I'm not going to run a mix of dipsys and walkers. That screwdriver issue is just enough of a pain to keep me with the Dipsy Diver, mostly because I already have a bunch of them. And I'd keep an eye on that ring on the back too.
  18. I usually leave mine in for a few more weeks, but this year I have some family and skiing commitments that have forced we to wrap it up earlier than I'd like.
  19. Started out right in front of the chute in 30 FOW. Found a few marks but the weeks worth of wind had temps at 64 degrees top to bottom and we couldn't get them to go. We started working our way out and had a blank screen and 64 degrees as deep as 150' all the way out to 380 FOW. Once we hit 380, there was 55 degree water down 150' and there were lots of marks and bait. We worked 380-425FOW for the rest of the day and had consistent action there. We ended up with a very nice mixed bag of silver & dark Kings, Steelhead, and even a Smallmouth Bass that took a spoon off a rigger down 120'. Our most productive riggers were at 150' and 165' and our wire divers kept us busy when they were set at 380' & 450' on a #2 setting. That gold Northern King NBK I've been running lately in both green & yellow fired multiple times for us, and our best paddle/fly was a green holo/crushed glow Spin Dr. pulling a Siggs Rigs Green Crinkle fly. Wish we could've gotten back out there this morning. After a week's worth of wind I'd guess that the fishing is gonna be pretty hot today & tomorrow out where we were yesterday. Here's those two Northern King gold series NBK's that have been so hot for us the past month or so: When we got done fishing we pulled all the gear off the boat and took it over to be stored for the winter. What a great season....I can't believe it's done for us. :(:(:(
  20. Absolutely! EVERY lamprey dies on our boat. Nasty critters....
