  1. Polar Bear I haven't used copper, but have used plenty of leadcore out there and it has caught a lot of fish. I don't see why copper wouldn't work. One thought that comes to mind is how hot copper blades and spoons seem to work, with that thought I would be curious if a walleye would tag the line itself with that flash of copper it would give off in the water. I used a lot of smaller spoons off the leadcore and a few size 100's and have done well. I have also been toying with the idea of running harnesses of the leadcore. Figure your depths you intend to fish, and if you want you could even run the dive bombs to achieve greater depths. If you do experiment with it let us know how you do. Good Luck....
  2. Thanks for the report, sounds like a sweet trip. When is that smoked salmon going to be ready????
  3. Quit it, I need to go fishing. Seeing this stuff isn't helping:lol:
  4. It's been a while since I 've done any of the combat fishing. Last time was out of Manistee last year. There is definitely a pattern to the madness, just fall in line with everyone and don't be a jerk. Short off the balls, dipsy's, and that's about it. Short core off boards close to the boat can amount to problems as well. Fishing in front of the harbor like that can produce great action, but it is definitely a pain for the driver, you must be aware at all times of what is around you. The worst thing is once you have everything deployed you can really get pinched with nowhere to go, and in this instance it is just the nature of the beast fishing with that many other boats around. For less headaches keep it short and tight to the boat, make sure you have heavy line that way when you get hung up with another boat you will not loose your gear.
  5. :angry2: Gas went back up today, from $3.77 up to $3.94. I find that even at $3.77 that we are getting ripped off. A barrel of oil peaked around $147/barrel, and gas was around $4.30/gallon. Over the last little while the price of a barrel has dropped all the way down to $113/barrel, and surprisingly a gallon of gas has not followed suit. Mind you a gallon of gas has come down, but not by the same percentage as what a barrel has. Scratching my head wondering how the SOB's get away with it. Now this war in Georgia is probably contributing to the hike in prices, as one oil company already shut their pipeline down yesterday as a precautionary measure. If it's not one thing it's another. I am just plain fed up with high gas prices, and everything else that is increasing accordingly because of the outrageous gas.....
  6. funny how you will see these guys now, but in a few months????? Good Luck...
  7. All new PVC seemed to do it. Major clog where the PVC entered the cast iron. I guess it is good to wear many different hats. Now a little catch up on a couple days of dishes.
  8. Still can't get it. Going to have to make some cuts tomorrow. Really scratching my head on this one????
  9. Well it is 4:31, I don't usually get up this early unless it is to go fishing. My good girl Belle woke me up off the recliner, woof woof. Thought she wanted to go out and to the bathroom, walked into my kitchen to see the sink overflowing onto the floor. :help: So thank god I have a little break in the action tomorrow, I mean today, cause it now looks like I have to play plumber for the day. CRAP!
  10. This is a good one....If it were me this is what I would do. Change the 2 xtra rods into dipsy rods. In my ideal world off my boat this is what I would run. 4 leadcore 2 off each side of varying colors, 4 dipsys 2off each side, and 2 riggers down the chute with the potential if the riggers are working of using 4. Now instead of a stacker rod I would put down some sliders. We have used them quite a bit and there is no denying that they take hits.
  11. Dan the water up north is starting to warm up too. Where we started it was 72*, when we finished not too far from there it was 74* water. I know what you mean about setting up and pulling lines. Even with my friends it takes time, as most of them are pretty green. They can reel in the walleye, but to set lines I need to walk them through it step by step. Some people really pick it up easy, and others just seem to be totally confused. But like anything else, experience is the best teacher. I've been at it for a while, so sometimes I just think it is better if I just set things myself. On occasion I have filled the boat with others that also fish, and that is gravy. I'll just sit back and drive and let them do all the work. Probably have a few more trips yet out to Au Gres, hope the fishing holds up. Last year it seemed toward the end of July things really slowed. I pulled the boat and went for silver last year, but this year I think I will continue to look for the eyes into the fall. As far as this warm water, does it push the fish into deeper water? And, when the water temp starts to come down do they start showing back up in good numbers? Good Luck out there....
  12. Need I say more? Started a little later than anticipated, around 8:30 lines were being set. Working on the 4th line and they started to go. 1st one was on 4 colors with Stinger Scorpion OPS, I thought surely it would have been chicken wing. Played this game for a while and had 3 in the box in no time. With that said, thought we would get our 20 for the day. Started working the same stretch of water picking a few up each time through. Then someone hit the switch and it was it for the day, 7 with one sheepshead. I have noticed something wierd happening on my boat. 2 weeks in a row now 85% of our fish have come on the starboard side of the boat:confused:. I had been running lead on this side of the boat, well I increased my leadcore so I could run the same amount of lead on each side, 3 per side, thinking that since the leadcore has been going so good for me to use more. 3,4, & 5 color with spoons by Stinger & Northport Nailer have been taking fish consistently for me, today the 4 color seemed to be taking the most. Flat day out there.... On another note, the bay still remains to be a large body of water with plenty of room for a lot of boats. I scratch my head again today when some knucklehead in a lund comes off plane right in front of me. Close enough that he heard me yelling out my window to get a clue, maybe not said that nicely. If that isn't bad enough this idiot starts setting lines while the 2 boneheads with him just watch, and guess what???? Nobody is driving or paying any attention to where they are headed. Which by the way was right for us. I am laying on the horn, yelling loudly and he finally looks up and takes the wheel. Again I know I don't own the water, but with moves like that today don't be surprised when you land your boat and there are four of us dockside ready to go:angry2:
  13. Nice work GLF! Looks like a great day, thanks for the report. Dumb boaters come with the territory. 1Maniac I like your moves of cutting bait and getting the heck out of there, much less of a headache with no one around...
  14. Sweet!!!!!!! How warm was the water where you were???
  15. Sure does look flat out there!!!! Nice job on the fish!
  16. I did check out my radio, and everything is fine, except the microphone. I need to snip it and re solder it together. There is a short in the cord right at the connection into the radio, I have to wiggle it to transmit a good signal, now I need to find some time. Good Luck....
  17. Whoa, it's been too long since I've been out chasing walleye. Entered the tourny up in Au Gres for Saturday. Pre - Fished Friday with a good friend and my father. Went south to my honey hole and plugged away for a while. Ended up with eight. Saw Priority 1 out on the water, Good to see ya Frank... Dad had a ball reeling in a majority of our fish on Friday, it was quick action once we got out around 2 PM, and then it died around 4:30 for us. 98 boats signed up for the tournament. We thought we should try to make the shotgun start, not fun. We weren't even to the lighthouse when the flare went off, looked behind me and here comes 10 boats hauling @$$, so I hit it. Almost got swamped anyways. Made it down to our spot, rough ride down there. Turned the boat around and set the spread. Wasn't long until we were banging the fish. We had 13, but nothing of size, so I threw up the hailmary and went in shallow, 12fow. Once we got in there, the wind whipped up more than it already was, whitecaps as far a the eye could see. Came up empty in the shallow water. So we weighed our fish on the boat and tagged our 5 for weigh in. Got to the dock and 13# was in the lead, we had 9.22, like I said nothing big, but with 13 in the lead I thought we may stand a chance. Nope, 19# took the tourny, and we ended up in 32nd place out of 98 boats. Talked with quite a few people, a lot said they went north. And a lot of them didn't catch numbers but did catch some weight. My strategy of catching enough to weigh down south, and hopefully picking up a big one didn't pay off, but hind sight is 20/20. Still had a great time in the tournament, it was very rough saturday afternoon and I believe this rough water played a part in only catching 13, that's my story and I'm sticking with it. A lot of people only caught a few, and some had none at all. My best presentation this year has been leadcore. I set 3 leadcore lines on the starboard of the boat, and this is where 80% of our action was. Tried tot's, jerks, harnesses, jet divers on the port side with limited success, but leadcore 3,4,&5 color was the ticket. Mi Stinger's chicken wing and copper confussion was the best lures of the day hands down. I have enough rods, so I am thinking of rigging 3 more leadcore lines. Didn't make it out on Sunday, had hopes of going but I knew it was going to be rough, and didn't want to get beat up for a 3rd day in row.
  18. Sounds and looks like you had a good time!!! Nice job....
  19. Nice job AB! GREAT report. Will be headed out tomorrow and the rest of the weekend. Good luck out there....
  20. Just don't get any on the boat:angry2:HAHAHAHA. Nice job on the fish.
  21. Those tourneys sure are a blast. My BIL entered GMOC also, day one was a good day, at the end of the day they were in 9th place. Day 2 wasn't as good, by the end of the day the ended in 49th. Those are the breaks. I think for those tournaments you need 2 solid days with the max fish at weigh in to do good.
