  1. Wow I can't believe that reel says it will take 420yds of line.
  2. I think it's a waste of time and doesn't produce any better results. I used to do it for years and the only thing I have noticed when switching to all 20# mono is more fish in the boat. A lot less break offs on angry kings. Like someone else said Line diameter doesn't really matter to kings. Walleyes maybe?
  3. Congrats! that's one to be proud of.
  4. Believe it or not Jim we used to do that well. About 3 years ago everything changed though. 20 fish was a slow morning averaging 30+ was typical. Now I'm happy to catch 10. Thank god for those lakers that have been showing up or it would be brutal.
  5. It don't make a bit of difference and is a big waste of money in my opinon. Just another gimic to catch fisherman not fish. If a fish doesn't care about your diver and flasher in front of your bait it certainly don't care about what kind of fishing line you have. There's way more important stuff to focus on than floro versus mono.
  6. cool Jim, I got up and said forget it with the storms coming. But I'm going in the morning for sure. Gonna try to get some slobs in close. Nice catch.
  7. 20# big game. It don't matter what line you use, every once in a while it's gonna break. You can't find all the knicks and cuts so don't think big game is your problem.
  8. Had an unexpected day off today so hit the lake for some king action. Setup in 75 and trolled north east to 100 and back. Best action was in 85ish. Ran a 6 rod spread of White spindoctors with aqua flies doing all the damage. Rigger at 60 took several hits along with a diver a 125 and both 10 colors. The white and green dot spinny was the standout rig.
  9. One of my favorite and best setups. I use the hotspots without a fin though. Aqua fly.
  10. White fishscale coyote and boy blue fly White cracked ice and green oil slick hotspot with aqua fly These 2 combo have been on just about all my rods since May
  11. Fishing was easy over on the west side also. Sometimes they just bite everything you throw at em. That's how I would describe it also. Being able to recognize when it's just easy versus you dialing in the program to neutral fish is just being a good fisherman. And honest.
  12. The only speed that matters is your speed at the ball. But also keep in mind that can change too. For example current direction has a huge role in your trolling speed. I know alot of guys say watch your rods bend or the tips thump if fishing flashers, but if you have some lines above the thermocline and others in and below you can bet your speed is different at different depths. So if your high diver is cranked over and your probe rigger is above the thermcline, and you are trolling with the current, your speed might say 2.2. Now if you drop that probe rigger into the thermocline and current it might say 1.6. big difference in speed. If you check your speed high and low you will see this alot on strong current days. Thats why alot of guys struggle when the current is ripping, only half your baits are trolling at the right speed. For me, my speed, trolling direction, and how my spread looks are the most important part of the game. I've been using the same baits since early May and their catching fish consistantly each trip, but I think it has more to do with the above mentioned.
  13. I use shimano talora 7 foot rods and shimano charter special reels. 20lb big game. The drags are super smooth and they also have a lever drag. If you fish deep with your riggers these are the best reels for the job. The lever drag allows you to set light tension on the drag as you drop the cannon ball and then once at the depth you want engage the drag fully, no need to crank up all the slack line from your thumb being on the spool.
  14. The fish were in shallow on friday but after the wind on friday night it changed alot. The fish scattered and if you landed on them Saturday morning you did well, but it changed for everyone. Their were some MONSTER coolers friday. We caught 30 fish friday morning without much effort but Saturday we only caught about 15. Shoulda kept a few of those 6 pounders we tossed back hoping for the same results as friday. Only weighed in 8 fish for 81 pounds. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, everyones got a story though.
  15. I tried it years back too and it sucked big time. 40# test and it broke so easy. That was the last time I tried floro and went back to 40# ande and never looked back.
  16. Just tell her the boats cheaper than a divorce.
  17. Stinger blue dolphin and orange killer are the most consistant for putting fish in the boat regardless of size.
  18. Your gps will always be higher, that's normal. And the 1.8-2.2 is right their for a depth raider. I actually narrowed it down a little more to 1.8-2.0. That's where mine stays all year.
  19. Awesome! I'm really jealous, our fishing still sucks in Milwaukee. Anyone want to buy a boat.
  20. Depth Raider all the way. Talking about customer service, we had an issue with interference with our auto pilot. So yesterday the owner of depth raider came out on our boat to personally correct the problem, wasn't his products fault, but the auto pilots and he went above and beyond to correct the issue. Another plus is all depth raiders are calibrated to the exact same speed and temp, so if you ever loose your probe you wont have to try to find that sweet spot all over again.
