  1. Headed out this morning with the "Chum Bucket" on his grady white. Fished right around the light house in presque isle around 60-90ft of water. Started the morning off 0-3 on atlantics. Unfortunately the acrobatic suckers just would calm down enough to get close enough to the boat. The atlantics all fired on 5 colors of leadcore with blueberry muffin silver streaks as we were setting. We finally got all set and got into a few kings. Ended up going 6-7 with the kings, returning 2 dinks. After those shut down the lake trout bite turned on. 10colors of lead produced with kavorkian silverstreaks. We ended the day 7-10 on lake trout, with 2 undersized fish going back. It turned out to be a pretty good morning!
  2. I also noticed your radio was really weak this morning
  3. Monday afternoon we arrived in Holland. Having never fished here i was eager to get on the lake. We left pretty early to bomb around and see what we could find. Ended up dropping lines in about 530pm. Found some fish in 125ft of water down 50-60 on the riggers. Blue dolphin and Caramel dolphin both produced. 300 Copper with a NBK also produced some action. We ended the evening going 6-10. Tueday night we found fish in 100ft of water. After the sun went down the rods started firing! Everything we threw at em seemed to work. Ended the night with 12 kings and a lake trout. All moonshines we threw down seemed to produce. Riggers down 35 and 45 were by far the best. Thursday was much slower. We did end up picking up our biggest fish so far, just over 18lbs. We finished 6-9. This time fish were in 55-65FOW and down 25-50 on the riggers.
  4. Laker VERY few splake left in our area. Nice job!
  5. The slot limit is from PI north now. Brand new this year. Slightly confusing. I still think fishing out of rockport is your best bet. Its just south of grand lake. If your not familiar with the launch it can be kind of tricky, but its a GREAT place for a small boat right now. Fish are pretty much 100 yards past the pier head. Hit 20ft and turn north. PS. I absolutely hate the michigan dnr website. It needs to be completely redone.
  6. I'd go south of PI. They changed the lake trout laws, and implemented a slot limit from PI and north . Alpena near thunderbay island is excellent right now. Mostly a spoon bite. We've picked up kings and atlantics out of rockport but the laketrout seem to be scarce so far.
  7. We have 20gallons in the freezer from dipping this year
  8. They were all in and around 25ft. We hit fish only where water temp was 44. But all around it was anywhere as low as 38.
  9. Got out for the first trip in the big boat this year. Launched at about 5:45am and turned the pier and set lines. As we began to set our third line, the 2color lead and one of the 1/2oz inlines went off. Much to our surprise these fish started the acrobatics. The first one popped off, but we manage to land the 2nd. We couldn't believe it. A 14.75lb king. If you know anything about the area, you'll understand . We got lines reset and hit a small 3-4lb brown. In the next hour the bugs really came out and so did the lake trout. We boxed out in about 45mins and headed back in to get away from the swarming bugs!
  10. Got out this evening for a shakedown of the walleye boat. Started out pretty rough, but calmed down quickly. We launched at 10pm and fished till 12. Ended the night with 4 nice eyes. All fish came on #18 rapalas. Good colors were old school firetiger and vampire. Still pretty slow, but its only going to get better once the water clears up! All these fish were packed full of smelt
  11. Finally made it back to Michigan after about 3 months away at work. Weather here is prettttty bad, therefore not allowing us to get the boat wet. Decided, after being away for so long i needed to do SOME type of fishing. My best bud Kevin and I headed down to the river in Alpena to hopefully whack a steelie or 2. Not another soul was down there, which made it even more enjoyable. We fished for about an hour and a half landing one hen weighing about 5 lbs and losing 2 smaller acrobatic males. Turned out to be a GREAT day on the river!
  12. O man, you'd be surprised how hard it is to hit these guys. It's quite a challenge. Plus they fight pretty well after you shoot em. It's a blast!
  13. Now this is something i maybe should have talked about last fall, but i happen to be going through some of my old pics and figured i'd share them with everyone. Last year i had my first opportunity to go carp shooting. I have to say, its an absolute blast! If you enjoy archery, or any type of shooting i would strongly recommend giving this a shot. We have a small honey hole north of Alpena that we frequent. We have a small boat set up with a generator to run lights mounted towards the water. It's kind of noisy, but still a blast. It's pretty cheap to get into. You can get yourself a generic bow reel for somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 bucks. Arrows are around 10 bucks a piece. Pretty much any bow will work. It's extremely low draw weight, making it easy for people of all ages to get into! I encourage you to give this a try!!!! (As you can tell i wasnt the pro on this day...)
  14. O man! was really hoping u had some pics to go along with the tourney!!! Just seeing quality fish/ hearing about the quality fish sure does get me excited!! Any chance you have a rundown of weights for the tournament?
  15. Haha this made me chuckle.
  16. I may have forgotten to mention the, "It's also about who you know" factor. lol.
  17. It'll prolly be the next week before i make it back to michigan. We'll be staying for a week long.
  18. Most smaller guys want to get their names out there. They're looking for people who fish a lot, and are very productive while doing it. Put together a resume. Include tournaments you've fished, and what places you have finished in. Include some factual numbers about your yearly fishing. Make sure you have information about yourself, that includes why your looking to promote this product. Most places don't want guys who just want free stuff, they want people who actually are going to use their products and help promote. Many companies have rules to being a pro staffer. This means you have to do some things for them, whether its giving 1 or 2 seminars a year, setting up a booth at an outdoor store, or in some cases just tossing a big ole sticker on your boat. Being sponsored isn't just a way of getting free stuff, its a marketing tool for companies. I hope this helps! Goodluck to you!!!
  19. That looks like a REALLY nice place.. Anyone else know of anything in Holland?
  20. Hey Randy, Did you happen to get a name on that place?
  21. Hopefully they will keep us updated when they do more looking into it. It'd be a shame if this subject went untouched by the biologists.
  22. A salmon's smell is thousands of times better than a dog. They say around 1 part per trillion. I'd personally be trying to replace it all. Hopefully everything works out for u man!!
  23. Crazy story. 31.25in 9lb 8oz walleye caught in St. Joe, had a mouth tag from Alpena. Not a ton of info on it yet, but pretty interesting. A Traveling Fish Story
