  1. Lines down at 7 in 114 fow. Took a 9 lb steel before we got the 4th rod down. RV moonshine mag flounder pounder down 45. Then did the long troll till twilight. Next bite finally came at 915. 16 lb king on a mag moonshine bloodynose in 80 fow down 50. While fighting the king the other rigger went off down 40 with a standard flounder pounder. Rodney ended up losing that fish so the king got caught up in that line and the wire diver. Closed out night trying to undo that mess in the dark LOL. Pretty busy out there tonight with boats
  2. Lines down at 630PM in 120fow straight out. Immediately start marking fish and consistently marked fish in 120-130 fow all night. Lookers, runners, just hanging out. Most marks 60-80 down. Changed out numerous times but could get nothing to go until the sun was below the horizon. Took an 18 and 16 lb king right around 9PM in 130fow. both fish bit standard sized spoons. One on a 150 cu and one on a free slider with the rigger running at 50. Free slider fish cleared the water 3 times. Saw a guy at Snug with a 29lber. Ran meat, flies, mags, and plugs all night and the 2 old standbys took the bites, blue jackal and blue whale. Pic of my son with an 18lber
  3. It's been very cool watching your fishing partner grow from toddler to young lady. She had the hot hand on raffle tickets again!
  4. Great fish and thanks again for the give back on the big fish money. That was the largest single cash donation we received this year!
  5. It will Nick. We run regular size mono dipseys on 1 out 40 to 60 with great success. Rod is parallel or one notch up.
  6. Are your weights getting caught in the diver?
  7. I hear rock music in the background and you singing "I can't drive 1.5!!" Remember in the fall and spring you're going to want to run stickbaits at .9 to 1.2 to catch the big girls. Stein and I went out in March this Spring and had a ball catching 3-7lbers. Buy some bags and join the slow side LOL
  8. I love running spoons on the bay when they're working but the majority of fish have been biting deep and on meat. You were in the right spot Nick just needed to be running harnesses. Boxed 24 on Sat in 4 hours and 17 on Sunday in 3 1/2 hours last weekend in the same area.
  9. I was out Friday AM also. I've been hitting the water after daylight all year so I figured I'd try the predawn bite. Set up in 80 fow at 4:15. Trolled out to 135 and back into 100 fow. Tried all kinds of rigs and all kinds of speeds and couldn't get anything to go until 8:30 I took a coho in 155 on a reg hello darling on a 150 Cu. 5 minutes later took a 12lb laker on a BW meat rig down 135 in 165. Found a shaker on my bloody nose mooshine down 65 10 minutes later in 170. Worked that water and out to 210 until 10:30 when I pulled lines. Found a 1.5 degree temp break and a strong slick in 165 on my way back in so dropped back down and worked that for 30 minutes with nothing to show for it Surface temps were 58-60. 45 degree water was 50 down all the way to 125 where it started dropping to 44
  10. wasn't the releases fault. Just a weird series of events. I highly recommend them
  11. Took some rookie friends out for a sunset cruise. Left the launch at 7pm ran the crowded river and were met with 10-15 sustained out of the NW and 2-4 foot chop. Mostly 2's with the occasional 3-4 foot trios. So much for a relaxing hour of fishing. Beat our way out to 180 and decided that was far enough. Turned our ass to the wind and started headed SE. Setting line #6 the 3 color with coho candy goes off. My friend lands her first ever big lake fish. Cookie cutter 3lb ho Tried to get her to kiss the fish but this was as close as she would get Next came a shaker on a wrecking ball on a slide diver 130 out Had a free slider bite on mixed veggie on a rigger 45 down. Rod was absolutely hammering. Grabbed the rod and felt all kinds of weight. Turned around with a huge smile on my face saying this is a BIG fish. Start to hand it back to my buddy and the rod rockets out of my hands and into the drink. I guess the look on my face was priceless In 17 years of fishing the big lake this is the first time that ever happened to me. Bring the rigger up and low and behold the line is still in the release. So I turn around and say watch this. Well I was thinking I was going to handline in a fish and a rod and reel but the fish was gone. My friends were laughing for the next 30 minutes over that one. Figure it was a big king or steely on the slider that took a quick run as I was handing the rod back. Chamberlain release was set pretty tight so instead of releasing it pulled the rod out of my hand. Took another shaker on a reg size flounder pounder on a 150 cu. No hits after the sun started hitting the water. Hits were between 175 and 160 fow straight out. Surface was 52. Pretty fun for about an hour of fishing in bumpy conditions
  12. Nice job out there. Heard you on the radio a couple times. We drew the short stick today never finding a group of fish to work over. We had lines down at 6 and fished till 11:30 with 3 shakers and 2 4lb ho's to show for it. We spent the first 2.5 hours heading out to 240. Most people were doing better in the same water you were in
  13. 630am-12pm. 4 for 8. Tried the river water first thing with no luck. Ran out to 150 with the rest of the fleet and headed west. Best water was 210-220. SOG 2.0-2.2 free slider on 60 down reg rigger pink panties 1-2 3lb ho same set up reg uv carmel dolphin 1-3 3lb ho Mag slide diver on 3 out 130 SS wrecking ball 1-2 14lb king 3 color jointed f11 orange rap 1-1 5lb ho Started 4 for 4 and then lost 4 in a row trying to get the last one. I'd get tight on the slider for 5-10 seconds then gone. No shrimp in the ho's. All fish had 5 inch ales in them. Headed back out tomorrow am Port Sheldon
  14. Like the guys have said a 9.9 will absolutely work. A 15 will probably be nicer but also pricier. Honda's are nice because of their high amp alternators.
  15. Good Job. You must have been South of me. I never saw another boat all morning
  16. Lines down at 7am and up at 10:30. NW heading out to 190fow. First bite was 8:15. 5-5 19-24 inch cohos 218-221 fow was the zone Mag flounder pounder went twice 65 down rigger Mag UV flounder pounder went twice down 90 rigger popper fly clean on a 200Cu went once. Ran FF combos and assorted body baits with no luck SOG was 2.5 and surface temp was 42 All fish still packed with shrimp
  17. It's a 22 Islander. One of the reasons I like to go solo every once in a while. If I'm not feeling it in a spot I can pick up quick and try something different. My goal was kings and browns. Should have hit the river water first, ran the beach, and then chased after the deep fish but the thought of quick tasty coho kept dancing in my head as I was assuming the seas would get worse as the day went on. Spent 4 hours running the same program as other succesful guys out there but couldnt find the fish.
  18. Launched at 5:40. Only trailer in the lot. Heard about the deep coho bite so ran out there and set lines at 6:20 in 170 fow worked out to 200 in a 1-2 foot chop. Picked up and ran out to 250 and worked my way back into 220. Nothing. Picked up and tried the river water in front of Saugatuck at 9am. A few marks but no takers after a few passes. Started in towards the beach and picked up an 8lb laker in 35 fow on a spoon near bottom. Threw him back. Popped a 6 lb colored up buck brown about halfway to Holland 50 feet off the beach on a J7 brown trout colored rap. Wind switched to SW then died down around 11am and the lake went flat so I ran back out to 160 and trolled around there picking up one ho on a spoon down 100. Ran paddles and flashers all day with no takers. Dirty water in front of Saugy was 47. Beach temps were 44-45 Anything past 150 fow was 40 degrees. Nice day on the water. Very few boats .
  19. I would have thought the temps of the river water would keep the engine compartment warm enough to not worry at all. I trailer my I/O and my first trip was the second week of March. I put a work light in until this past Friday when I saw temps would be below freezing for over 36 hours straight so I put anti freeze back in. Way too much fishing to pass up when putting anti freeze back in only costs 10 minutes and $12 in pink pop.
  20. Wish I would have seen this earlier. One of the other main reason for using wire dipseys is they do not hold fleas. They attach to braid like crazy. So basically if the fleas are thick you may have to take your dipseys out of your spread or reel them in the clean them off every 30 minutes or so. I also run 25lb big game to keep the fleas down. The bigger diameter of the line helps to keep the fleas from being able to hook onto the line. As someone else mentioned flea flicker line is the best option. I used to run 200 feet of it on top of my regular line when the fleas got bad but it got expensive switching it out so I just run with bigger line. Very rarely do I have a day where the riggers do not play a major role in my bite ratio. In the scheme of things you might only have 3 -5 weeks out of the year where the fleas are bad nowadays it seems. But Erie might get more than Michigan. Haven't fished the East basin before.
