  1. Cool pics through the years. Helps ease the feelings before spring hits us truly. Got a few new pics of Uncle Jim to email to pops too.
  2. Glad to hear. I was just wondering what peeps run for coho flies. I am going to try to be at the D &R Sports show. Ill have to meet up with you. Thanks for the info.
  3. Good luck. I grew up in Bay City, parents live in Kawkawlin still. Cant catch walleye to save my life over here but salmon fishing is great. Usually come back in the early summer to fishem. Never saw a laketrout come out the bay. Closest was prob Au Gres. Thats pretty cool. One of my buds from BC got a 34" laker perch fishin at Lk. Simcoe. :rolleyes:Good deal and glad to see ur slayin em.
  4. Cool pics and some nice catches. All on the Bay? Laker? Some fat boy walleyes in there.
  5. I remember that but thought same at first . Boltman ya must be reading Keating, he describes what it is later. I was wondering same thing at first.
  6. Dont forget that u can also use dive bombs and snap weights to adjust depth of a mono or leadcore rig. Helps to make one rod more versatile and both quite inexpensive.
  7. I just started into Keating, got it Saturday, and much of what he talks is bottom structure and bait for finding fish. A fishfinder will greatly help with this and usually u can get one with temp sensor. I waited til i found one on sale and ended up with Hummingbird with temp for $200 plus the GPS for another $100. The GPS does not have map just grids and my waypoints, tracks, Speed, and compass. Its very nice for night and in fog. If u have a GPS already, U can pick up a fishfinder w/ temp for pretty reasonable price. A few Church Walleye Boards will let u fish shallows in spring as well as leadcore, copper, and flatlines in summer and fall. I used to fish 5-10fow in Lake Huron and let me tell ya catching a big brown or steelie that shallow is awesome, they can only go up! No need for the finder until later unless unfamiliar with shoreline, ie rocks, depths, etc. Never fished up in ur ports but some great action on Cohos down here in sping. Last year was my first try at them and my buddy and I limited out on them my 1st trip out. As others have said, I believe more steelies and browns up ur way. Good Luck and enjoy Keating on Kings:grin:
  8. I just started last year and I only have a 16 footer. No riggers for me (Yet) and i used nothing but leadcore and dipsy diver slast year. Did very well on leadcore just getting started and love it. The shorter coreare easier on the arm and my most productive was a 6 color. I usually only run 6 rods on my boat with 4 being leadcore. I got skunked 1 time last year during my first season. I found the core easy to fish. I would like to add more colors this year along w/ riggers, wire dipsy, and copper. Leadcoe is cheapest way to get rolling in my opinion. I also just got Keating on Kings for my birthday on 1/17. Seems vey good so far. After deer season I am just stuck in salmon mode.
  9. Nice catch Randy! Glad to hear ya tore em up. Im ready for open water action but we will have to hook up for a little hardwater slaying.
  10. I am gettin sick of shoveling, although I could use the exercise after hunting season and the holidays (but i guess they are the same :>) I was talking to neighbor yesterday while shoveling and he said that Portage was on the same snow levels as Marquette:eek:. I get to look at my boat sitting in the garage everyday and it makes me sad. Bring on the springtime after a white christmas and muzzy season, im ready for it. Glad to have 4 x 4 truck this winter , although it does make me the ole ladies chauffeur. At least football was good this past weekend. Go Steelers:clapping:
  11. Gotta love a smokepole buck! Glad to hear. Welcome to GLF Congrats:grin:
  12. Here is a little bit better pic of my buck. Also uploaded better pics of my 6 pt from rifle season. I need a digital cam, instead of cell phone
  13. Got my 8 point within the first half hour in the blind Friday. First kill with my new muzzleloader. Perfect shot at about 75 yards out. Biggest buck taken during muzzy season on our prop in 20+ years. Opening weekend of muzzy saw an 8, 6, 3, a big bodied buck with horns broke off , and 4 does all taken. What a great weekend it was as every hunter got a deer or 2. This is my biggest deer to date. Not good pics, from cell phone. Waiting for other pics to get emailed.
  14. This is a great piece that is all info and no bs;). Just started this year the whole Dipsy thing was a mystery to me. Without help from some others on here such such as Fishwhiperer, i would be lost. This is a top notch breakdown. TY and looking forward to the slide diver one as i have never used one.

    well

Ended up with a 6 pt on opening morning about 745. Saw 3 other does before 8am and nothing from 8am-6pm:rolleyes: Waiting to get some pics. Nothing huge but my biggest yet. Saw 5 on sunday, a BB chasing 2 does and 2 running butts. Very slow year with few deer seen and lots of wind. A crap load of standing corn around the area could not have helped. Oh well cant wait to head back up on Thurs!!
  17. Sweet pics there. Not the "usual" background scene there.
  18. Congrats on that first one;) Sounds like u got your mental checklist down which is a great help keeping ya calm and focused.
  19. Thanks for the report! Glad to see ya got a few in da boat. Gotta love chrome in October.
  20. Thanks for the report Capt! It really sums up what i have been seeing. Thanks!
  21. Fished from 6-8pm from 75' - 145fow. Went 1-3 / w 5# king. 6 color w/ MS Bloody Nose. Lost 2 on dipsy with SD Moutain Dew w/ No Seeum back 135' on 2. Water about 57 all the way out. Wind started kicking up. Only boat out deeper. No skunk:D Glad to get out. Hopefulluy out in the AM.
  22. Waves/wind did not cooperate as expected. Went from smooth to 'time to turn around' in 60fow. Not big waves but frequency killed me. Ended up trolling spread of spoons, j plugs and stick baits from 20-45 fow and once up the river. Got shaker king on mini mixed veggie in 35 fow. Wind was terrible. Might try again today. River was 52 degrees and lake from 58-61. No skunk at least.
  23. Well heading out in the morning and have not been out in ages. What do ya boys think- start out shallow or deep? Don't wanna be in the wrong spot at that magic hour. Gonna bring a variety of stuff to throw at em whether shallow or deep. Pumped and ready to roll!!!
