  1. I use a UV light for mine and I'm really happy with it. It is the same type as Capt. Chip Klein talks about in the video on the site. I think that my lures glow quicker and longer compared to the flash light or my flood lights that I used to use. Runs on AA batteries. So far so good, no issues.
  2. Welcome to the site. Looking forward to your input
  3. Just sitting here wishing the temperature was a little warmer and the water a lot softer and got to thinking about what I'm going to run on my first trip out this year. Something struck me, if I'm running a full core and 150 copper, where does the copper go, inside or outside? Now I know that when running multiple boards the deepest line stays closest to the boat, however, what do you do when the shallower line is actually deeper than the deep line where the lines would connect? Here's my thinking- 150' of copper runs 30' while a full core runs forty. But how deep is the core at 150' out- 20'. Is a fish on the short copper outside going to tangle the lead inside? Shouldn't the copper actually be inside then? OUCH! I think I just pulled my cerebral cortex.
  4. That's some awesome family time! The icing on the cake would have been catching some fish. Git em next time.
  5. I would think it would be ok for fishing from a boat, maybe a leadcore rod or diver rod. It sounds a little short and heavy for shore fishing. I would think you would want it a little lighter and longer. I fish by boat so my ideas may be completely off for the shore fishing. Maybe some of our pier fisherman will chime in and give you a better idea.
  6. Name: Bob LaBorn Age: 39 Dang! How'd I get this old already!!!! Residence Location: Villa Park, IL. Area(s) Most Often Fished: Grand Haven, MI. Years of Experience: Salmon-4, other 30+ Boat Size and Info: 19.5ft Proline w/ T-top, 115 Mercury Boat Name: Summer School I spent my summers, as long as I can remember, at my grandfather's cabin in Ferrysburg. I started fishing there at a young age and haven't stopped. I fish mostly with my dad and sometimes other family members. Dad and I started this 4 yrs ago and we're still learning. We're usually on the water from late April to September. Looking forward to spring and hoping for another good year.
  7. Many years ago, I was asked by a friend down down the road, to drive a boat boat him and his friends. Of course, at the age of 14, I was all over that. It was a 30 ft Rinker, and it had this cabled remote for steering. I don't remember exactly how it attached to the steering wheel. I remember that it was easily clamped on the wheel and easily taken off again. I remember walking to the back help with a fish and still being able to steer with this setup. It seemed like a reliable system but I know most have gone to a wireless remote. My question- do they still make this type of remote steering and if they do who makes it? I would ask my friend, but he moved to Florida 15 yrs ago and died 7 yrs ago. I know this is a shot in the dark, but here hoping.
  8. 6 per pkg- $4 to your door. Send me a PM if you are interested. Thanks.
  9. I'll give them a shot if you need me. I don't get an early start, but if we have most of the summer I can run them quite a bit.
  10. Jarod, That is the exact set I'm looking at. I think I found my trees. Thank you for the input.
  11. Anyone ever use Great Lakes Planer rod trees? Wondering how well their lock down works. Any thoughts good, bad. Thanks
  12. 11" green glow dreamweaver paddle w/ Big Weenie Wreck um fly - close second was the Rapture Hitman with yellow beads run behind 8" Mountain dew SD
  13. 18 1/2" with drifts up to 3' SNOW DAY Gotta make it up in June
  14. Ken - That's what I was thinking, using the tube top as my third holder.
  15. No this is not an eye test. I looking into getting some rod trees for the boat before spring. I'm thinking either the 2 or 3 holders on the trees. I have not had enough people on the boat to run more than 3 boards a side so I'm kinda leaning toward the 2. So what do you think, should I go with the 2 or 3? Price difference is $16 per tree. Plus extra shipping.
  16. It is not nice out there right now. Cool shot though. Almost looks like a flashlight coming out of the trees
  17. Just a thought, what about the taperproof screws you see on the bathroom doors that only have the half slot so you can put them in but not back them out? It would be fairly permenent. I slide my holders off and lock them up in the head, after the trip so I don't know if it would work.
  18. I just checked mine. The video plays and there is sound. I tried clicking ahead, after watching for just a second, but it wouldn't go that far ahead. I had not tried that before so I'm not sure if that is an issue or not. Other than that, no issues.
  19. Guys, I just redid my copper connections using the Spro swivel and shrink tube. I have to tell you, WOW! I am impressed. After struggling with my albright knot going through the reel guides last year, this is a welcome change. This went through the top of the guide with little to no sound. To all the guys that recommended this knot, THANK YOU!!!! I can't wait to get back on the big pond!
  20. I was looking through my log from last year, going over spreads I ran successfully and the not so successful. I ran into a pattern with several spreads, my sliders. Now, since I fish on the MI side, sliders are a freebie lure. I don't think I've taken enough advantage of that by running them as often as I could have, but I have run them enough, I think, to have caught more fish than I have. It seems a little wierd but, I have fished the big lake for 3 years and have never caught anything on a slider. I was shocked when I went through my logs and discovered that. My setup has been 2 riggers, 2 dipsies, 2 copper/lead core with sliders on occassion. Last year, whenever we ran a slider our downriggers were completely dead on all but one occasion. I've tried free and fixed with no success. Most times, when I finally give up on them, they come in all twisted up on the main lure, not the line. Very frustrating So what do you suggest? How can I fixed this? BTW- My sliders are usually the same spoon as what is on the main line, only smaller. I used a spoon above a flasher once- wow what a mess!
  21. So Jeff are you saying "If you build it, they will come"? Thanks for all the thoughts guys, I'm going to get it put together.
