Reel suggestions

Recommended Posts

I currently have convectors and magda pros in the 30 size. I need some more reels. I am wondering if I should get some 45 size for my leadcores. I have a 6 color and a 4 color right now and they fill the reels. The 6 color is almost too full. I want to set up two more leadcores, and maybe switch my other ones over. What are most of you running for size of reels?

On another note I run almost all PowerPro 40lb(besides my DR reels) and am wondering how much backing you are running behind the leadcore? Also how much do you run on your all PP reels? Also up to how many colors do most of you pull behind inline boards? I got a lot of fall back pulling 6 colors but would like to pull 10.

On mine I have 250' of 20lb Ande Mono for my backing 300' of 27lb leadcore and 75' flurocabon leader on the front. I made my own reel spooler and bought one of those shakespear linecounters that clip on your fishing rod and mounted it to my spooler and that is how I know howmuch line I have. I wanted 300' of backing but seemed a little full when I did the first one as 250' is alot of line.

I have Power pro now as my backing but I am getting ready to setup 2 more lead cores and redo the ones I have now. I am not sure if I want to stay with Power pro or go with mono. And If I go with mono do I use 20lb or move up to 25lb. Another possibility is to run a 100' to 200' of Power pro than a mono backing. so many options :)

Also if I was to have 4 core setups what would you recommend?

have never had a break with 20lb Ande running church boards off of them and ran last set for 2 seasons before redoing the whole set up this year. Keep in mind I only fished approx 150 hours the last 2 years as the older my kids get the more of my time they demand for school activities. So if you use them a ton more which alot of guys do you will want to change the backing more often. I also keep my rods in the house when not using them to keep the line from being exposed to big temp changes out in the barn. the leader I change out every 2 or three trips as I always keep that fairly new. Also I would run big game with no hesitation I just use th ande because I buy it in bulk. If I was not using ande I would use Berkley big game. bolth have proven to work well for me
