Jolly Time Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I so want to get out on the lake but the weather and waves have been ridiculous this spring! Since I can't fish, I thought I would pose a question just so I can a least think about fishing. In terms of the overall weather conditions, temperature and wind this year so far, What do you believe will be the effect on fishing for salmon on Lake Michigan this year? Do you believe it has any effect on the bait fish? Thoughts? 1
jdh Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Bait may be slightly delayed on the spawn. Could keep the kings around longer into June. Could mean a delayed run in August September?
FBD Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Bait will hit the piers shortly if not already. Kings and coho being blown out following the warm water offshore due to the incessant east winds will not follow the bait inshore. All these east and north winds now will mean none this summer and we will be fishing 140’ down to find 50 degrees.
Jolly Time Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 I am so curious to what will happen over the next few weeks and especially once we get some more "normal" wind patterns. I have to believe that the migration of bait is off for sure. My hope is they will not move over to Wisconsin. I believe the colder temps early will keep bait here on the Michigan side. If the bait stays, I think we may have a similar year to last. Good fishing throughout the season. 1
Reel-y-hooked Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Less fish caught this spring may increase catches this summer and fall. 2
