Freshwater drum Posted July 4, 2012 Share Posted July 4, 2012 I just put together a 200 45lb copper. I don't have a copper rod but have a bunch of other extra trolling rods. Will a leadcore or diver rod work? I'm not sure what type of rods copper works well with( 7ft or 8ft, med or heavy action ). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sly Selea Posted July 4, 2012 Share Posted July 4, 2012 When I was slightly greener (2 months ago) and hadn't upgraded any equipment, I was using standard trolling rods for the copper I put on horribly undersized reels. They worked, but were kind of a pain feeding the line thru the eyelets because of the knots. Rods designed for copper have much larger eyelets and feed the line thru much easier. One of the best upgrades I've made so far to my equipment, makes it much more user friendly. I picked up inexpensive Okuma GLC rods for around $32.00 each. They have the copper color band on the rod. sherman51 Posted July 5, 2012 Share Posted July 5, 2012 i went through this same thing not long ago. i guess you can use any rod for copper. but i broke down and bought a couple of the okuma leadcore/copper rods. i got the glt classic pro 8'6" m action. i may have paid alittle much for them but i liked the guides. 70.00 for 2 of them on ebay.sherman Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bach1252 Posted July 5, 2012 Share Posted July 5, 2012 I have used a leacd core rod for copper before but did change over to the Okuma GLC copper/leadcore rod. SUPERTRAMP Posted July 5, 2012 Share Posted July 5, 2012 I use an Okuma 8'6" dipsy mooching rod for my short coppers and my 300' coppers I use an 8' Okuma dipsy mooching rod no issues.
