G.P.S Question

We own a Lowrance 5300i global map g.p.s. does anyone else own one of these units?I was wondering if you liked or disliked the performance of this unit? Some of you may know how i feel about ours but i am not putting out my opinion as of now so that i might get unbiased opinions for now.

Have you checked the firmware and checked to see if Lowrance has came out with a firmware update? Firmware updates, are to fix bugs that a system "may" have.

They just updated this firmware on 3/10/08 so if you havent done it I would suggest it, they fixed alot of stuff:

Added Lowrance HD radar support via serial communications

Added Greek language

Added Polish language

Added ability to take a screenshot capture of the display on the unit and save to a card/hard drive – In Screen Snapshot mode, use the power key to capture the screenshot

Added Navionics Platinum support including 3D view and panoramic photos

Added support for the Lowrance Broadband Sounder-1

Updated language translations

Improved sonar digital depth tracking in weeds and over bluffs

Improved Navionics support

Changed Map/Sonar/Radar page to be resizeable

Includes all features from previous updates, including:

Modified backlighting properties

Added ability to add depth as overlay data

Improved ethernet stability

Moved the Cancel Navigation menu item to the top of the system menu

Many modifications to radar settings and features

Hey Tad Pole-

I think we've had this conversation before, but we've been really happy with our 5300i. I'm not positive if we have the newest firmware as mentioned above, we bought it this spring. So I'm guesing it probley doesn't. I'll have to look into that.

But yeah, we like it works well, it seems to be fast and with the Lake Master charts it's a great navagational and fishing tool.
