Gordy, You were blessed just being able to be out there. The brown was a bonus. Keep after them.

I agree that you can never have too many rod holders. Tracks are nice, and allow you to move rod holders easily if you don't like the location.
-
Mark, At least ya got the one.
Better days are coming.

Gordy, Keep them HOG pics coming.

I would drill a 3/16 hole through the clamp and arch and put a 3/16 SS detent pin through it. McMaster Carr has them in their catalog for a couple of bucks each. They are also on line. These pins have a spring loaded ball near the tip to keep them in place. You can also order the ones with rings on them and bead chain them to the tower to prevent loss. I use detent pins to hold my trees and Rocket launcher into position. If you are never going to move them a SS bolt and lock nut would suffice.

Penn Yann made a quality boat. I know there is a couple of tunnel drive true inboards on the bay, and they can handle some pretty shallow water.
I have never seen a Penn Yann Jet so I can't help with that. That diesel isn't even broken in yet.

Maybe some of us E siders can meet someplace and ride on over together.

Nothing wrong with some blow back unless the balls start coming out of the water.

I have used different spices but I always add Kosher Salt enough to just float an egg. The salt is part of the preserving process. The last couple of times I put the fish in gallon zip-locks and then added the brine. Lay the zip-locks on their sides and flip after a few hrs. Using the bags you don't need as much brine.

They do work. That cat has been out of the bag for a quite a few years now. Were going to have to rename it.

Depth, as well as lead lengths. Some times fish will slam stuff in the prop-wash and other times they are spooky as heck.

What a bonus.

Ben, If you are going to have a limited # of cores maybe consider some short cores that weight can be added to get them deeper. The two and three color are very versatile. Snap weights, Dive Bombs, Rubber Core sinkers are ways to get the short cores deeper. The two and three color cores can also be run off downriggers as a SWR (Secret Weapon Rig). You may also want to consider some copper, as the trend seems to be heading in that direction.

Joe, A warm welcome to the GLF site.

I like to fish the eyes on the Saginaw Bay. Line counter reels, in-line planer boards, sonar, and a GPS. To shorten your learning curve the best advice I can give you is to fish with someone else and learn what works for them and go from there.

Lake Huron Salmon

Does anyone know how the herring plants are doing? I know a quite a few of them were planted. The herring are large enough and oily enough to sustain Salmon. Unlike the Alewives, the herring are native to the GLs. If the herring get established they would provide a good source of food for a lot of predatory fish as well as creating a commercial fishery.
Like mentioned before the Salmon were planted to control the alewives. The salmon certainly did their job, but the clearer water and other factors have also taken their toll on this evasive bait fish.
