  1. I'd like to start off by Introducing myself, my name is Steve and I have limited experience salmon fishing but I can tell you I am hooked. I'd like to set up two rods with copper line for 2011. I'll be putting the 30 LB copper line on Tekota 800's. From reading old posts it sounds like I don't need line counters for the copper, just spool enough copper on the reel to get down to a set depth by using the copper line sink rate chart. If I'm fishing 40' down and the fish are at 60' Would it be possible to change depth by adding another section of copper end to end while on the boat by having a pre measured length of copper ready to attach? What line rating, power rating should I look for in the rod to pull copper?

Steve, A warm welcome to the GLF site. Adding a Dive Bomb or a snap weight may be an option to get more depth. There will be a lot of folks chiming in with a lot of good advice. :)

    :welcome:

  2. Just finally put the Eyefull to bed for the winter. Yep, I know, very late for me. I actually had her on the water in November a couple times this year though. I was also keeping her water ready in case someone was looking to buy her and wanted a water test.

I am always pleasently surprised when the gearcase lube comes out just as green and clear as it went in. I have had her since new and I am a firm believer in proper maintenance. I know guys that don't change their lower gear lube every year or fog their engines. They are usually the guys spending cash on mechanics labor instead of new gear:eek:. Now it is just changing the kicker four stroke oil in spring and new plugs.

Nothing special to offer with this post, just darn lucky it got me out of the house today. Couldn't take any more big ten massacres:(. Happy New Year to all and hopefully 2011 is the best fishing yet.

Tony, The guys that don't maintain their rigs will be dock side with the engine cover off next Spring. So what if they tie up a dock for an hour and a half. If they do manage to start they will probably lose power 5 miles out and need a tow. It's the same guys you see on the road with burnt out headlights etc. Darn it.@%$& I broke my New Year resolution about bitchin.

  3. Happy New Year to everyone here at GLF. Here's hoping that 2011 will be our best year yet. It's easy to curse our misfortunes and forget about our blessings. TG for all he has given us especially family, friends, and health.:) The GLF site is like family.:thumb:

  4. I have some old Cannon electrics that came with my boat. If I was going to upgrade I'd go with Big Jon. Big Jon's service is second to none and, Lord Of The Riggers, a site advertiser has always gave our members tremendous deals on Big John equipment. I have some Big Jon Multi Set rod holders on Priority1

  5. I have 4 older electric Cannons that came with Priority1. I never run more than 10# weights and have had a few issues with them. Since Cannon changed hands they are not as liberal with their warranty. I had some issues with some broken metal gears that were no longer available and some of the plastic parts. I was able to weld the gears and get by. If I used my riggers more I'd upgrade to some Big Jon electrics. If you decide to go with Big Jon's give Tony @ Lord of the Riggers a call. here is his link.

  6. There are a lot of things in life that are just not fair. The way I look at this is you can vote with you participation, or lack there of. It's the same thing at the store, if ya don't like the price or quality, ya don't buy it. It's good to question payouts and rules, It keeps the honest people honest.:)
