  1. I have had no luck at all this year running spinner/flys of the ball this year. Most of the time I keep the lead in the 10' range. Is that pretty typical?

If I run them on my out riggers (the higher rigger) they tend to tangle with the cable on the inside rigger. We have had great luck running them off the divers.

Where do most of you that run them in your spread run them?

    Thanks,

    Ken.

  2. I bought a Cannon speed and temp this year. It dose work good and, it has % of light at the ball. the bad things about it are; you need to disconnect the battery every time, and it hooks to the line in a goofy way. I have found my best down speed is around 1.8 to 2.0. Does this sound correct?

  3. I only had my son this morning so, we went past Muskegon to WhiteHall.

We set up in 60' south of the channel and headed west (most of the boats where out at 100'). we took the first fish on the wire diver back 60' with the yellow tail Coyote and Sigs Mountain Dew fly. the next on came at 95' on a 250' copper rig with the NK purple spoon. a nice 15+ pound king.CRW_5638.jpg

The wire diver took two more rips with the fish getting off 1/2 up.(I pulled that rig to find the line had lodged in between the shanks and was running backwards). We got a nice Steelhead in 110' running along side a scum line on the wire diver back 120' with the same flasher fly combo. headed in at 10:00.

  4. We arived at Fishermans Landing around 7pm Friday and quickly made camp and set sail to the lake. The night started slow for us as we went out to 80' (way past the fish). We got to see a great Sun Set and ended the night 2 for 4.

Both fish where landed an hour past dark, coming in on the moonshine super glows

Saturday morning brought the sound of wind to the camper, so we decided to sleep in a bit. Did not set lines till 9 am north of the peer in 45' We hooked up right off the bat and landed a nice 15 pounder. Fish #2 and 3 came at noon as a dbl. header (Yea, 3 hours of nothing then two at once). Two more nice kings CRW_5629.jpg

We landed one more soon after and picked it in at 1 pm, ending 4 for 4 .

Saturday afternoon brought lots of wind and very bumpy lake conditions. We started at the peer and went straight into them due North. we picked up our first fish in 50' with the Sigs Fly back 100' on the high diver.

we stayed on the North troll and picked away at them going 4 for 5.

Sunday am brought calm seas. We started at 7 am in 45' with the same north troll. The first rod fired as i was setting the second one. The action stayed good till 9 am, as by then we had 7 in the box as well as loosing one other.

The 1/2 core with the Night Crawler was th best set up taking 3 fish. 45-50 fow was great early. the down temp was 44 deg. at 40 feet down.

I should have kept a log as remembering all the things that took fish remain a blur. Thanks to Mike (ghf) for the advice to use dikes to chop the fingers of any one that tighten the drags. Loose drags brought the landing percentage way up.

  5. This is a good one....If it were me this is what I would do. Change the 2 xtra rods into dipsy rods. In my ideal world off my boat this is what I would run. 4 leadcore 2 off each side of varying colors, 4 dipsys 2off each side, and 2 riggers down the chute with the potential if the riggers are working of using 4. Now instead of a stacker rod I would put down some sliders. We have used them quite a bit and there is no denying that they take hits.

Every thing like above. If you're short on space run only two lead and 4 dippseys and 2 riggers with stackers.

  6. Welcome Aboard dcralston. All of the above is good info. The best way is to know guys in the loop. Read as many reports as possible. I see you're from Grand Rapids so, any report from Holland to Muskegon should help. I usually will motor out into the waves then turn and troll with them to get started. If you ask for general info on the radio, most guys will answer. We fish in the evening most of the time also. If you here us on the radio give us a call. Good luck.

    Ken.
