  1. Ken.

I've done 4 shows on the Tittabawassee starting with the first one with Fred Trost back in 1986, when Bob garner was still co-host of that show. Even took Fred to catch his very first Saginaw River walleye through the ice on a show the winter before. Then 1 with Bob Garner after he left Fred and took over Michigan-out-of-doors with M.U.C.C., when Abby Burk was he first camera lady and co-host. Then 2 more with Jenny Olson and Gabe, when she was the Co-Host. 1 before and 1 after Bob retired. It takes a lot of years to learn where and when to fish that river Ken, so don't feel to bad about the skunk. Also did 2 shows with Claudia Hitchcock and James Ford out of my drift boat on the Pere Marquette for salmon. All damn good people. Fred was a different story. But he's dead now and no sense in kicking the grave stone.

Dan I couldn't agree with you more. The people MUCC got for there show have always been Class Acts. It started with Bob and has kept pace seance.

The show I recall was most likely the second of the bunch, around 87 or 88.

    Fred-Well!, Fred was Fred

  2. Nice picture Ken. Where did the frog go now thats it cold?

Mike, there is a concrete block surround around the window. There are many cracks in the mortar joints. When I grabbed this guy there where at least 9 more. I put him back outside last night, and this morning they where all gone. My guess is they all went into the cracks.

Playing with the camera gives me something to do in the off season.

  3. We where over to my Mothers house in Hastings yesterday for the family Christmas. This little guy wanted to come in and join us.

Merry Christmas all. let's not forget the reason for the season.

  4. How small will you scale down to get picky panzies to go??

    I'll drop down to a 1/128th ounce Marmooska(#18 hook) with a single spike/maggot.

Another trick is a small bb shot with a #16 hook(daiichi #1150) with a single spike/maggot on 2 lb mono.

It sinks ever so slowly, but have you noticed on the Vex,when you toss your chewed up spikes down the hole, they never make it to bottom??

The Marmooka jigs are killers for gills. I switched to transparent nylon swing tread a few years back. The tread and these jigs are fantastic.

  5. Welcome, Boltman. How are these rods set up? Ie; do they have Mono or do they have Braid on them? The answer is yes any rod can be used as a rigger rod. Diver rods are best set up with Braid or some sorta of supper line. Rigger rods usually have 15-25 pound Mono on them.

  6. How can 2 more fish per person NOT make a biological impact? I don't know the numbers but I would have to guess that this would increase the harvest per year dramatically.

Look at it this way, on average us weekend warriors have 3 person's on board and during the peek of the season in august and September I have seen well over 300 boats in a port on a single day. Just crunching numbers here but lets say each boat has 3 person's on board. Thats 900 souls. If all 300 boats limit out with todays limits that is 2700 salmon, with the increase that would jump to 4500 salmon, a difference of 1800 fish. Granted there are alot of variables, like some boats would not get there limit, but you get my point.

Don't get me wrong I love catching more fish but I think we would see the affects of this in a couple years. Besides I end up giving most of my fish away cause I can not consume my last limit before my next trip.

    Nick,

May I ask were you got this information??

We are not to bad of fisherman. Not one time last year did we limit out on salmon. (there are usually 4 of us on board) We did come close a few times.

The reality is, most do not get there limit now. This will help the charter captions and the few that have only one or two on board.

  7. For a little extra crunch to you batter add some Corn Starch.

One of my favorites is 3 heaping Tablespoons Drakes Mix, 2 Heaping Tablespoons Corn Starch, a little salt and pepper and beer enough to the right consistency. This will do about 1-1/2 pound of fillets. I mix this batter up in an over size mixing bowl and add all the fillets and stir them around. No need to dip each piece individually. I pan fry with a Cast Iron pan and peanut oil, but deep frying is great also. Don't over cook. I just got some walleye fillets out, and it reminded me of this recipe. :)

Do you add enough Beer to make it into a batter? If so how thick is the batter?

  8. Every year the Geese load up in our lake as the others freeze. One would think if you have to fly south any ways, why not head out before your feet freeze off:confused:

These are just a small amount of them (they like to swim away when I head down with the camera).
