I was in Whitehall for work yesterday, so I went out to the Peer and mad a few cast. I got a nice big White Fish on my first cast, then no more. I was using a gold Hopkins spoon.

It wont be long before we se this again.

Since we went to Black, the false releases went down %95 and the hook up ratio went way up. The vary design of them makes it so you can load the rod heavy with out releasing the line.

There's a five way tie for first place in the win/loss department going into the last race.

Very nice of you Jay. It should make some Kid happy.

Welcome aboard Mark.
Things should start picking up now that the cold air is here.
The H.J. Ghost has always been a good one.
Here's a few others that produce well.

This was all that was posted .
I agree that three poles is too much to handle most of the time. It would be nice for open water fishing though.

Welcome Gary. You went from one money pit to another ( boats/fishing to horses)
I have two boats and my Daughter and wife have a horse.

I copied this from another site.
Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries signed fisheries orders that extend the spearing season through the ice for pike and muskellunge in certain waters, extend the whitefish spearing season on the Great Lakes and connecting waters, allow all anglers to use three rods, and establish a two-gallon limit on smelt.
The spearing season for pike and muskie will now run from Dec. 1-March 15, instead of just January and February and the whitefish spearing season will now be open year-round. The new seasons are the result of legislation enabling the DNR to set spearing regulations. These regulations take immediate effect.
Anglers have been allowed to use three rods when fishing for salmon on the Great Lakes for a number of years, but were restricted to two rods elsewhere and when pursuing other species in the Great Lakes. A survey of anglers showed overwhelming public support for three rods. The new regulation, which takes effect April 1, 2009, allows anglers to use three rods on all waters and in pursuit of all species, though the DNR retains the authority to reduce the rule to two rods if necessary.
The two-gallon limit on smelt, which historically have been unregulated, is designed to prevent waste during periods of high abundance and offer some protection to smelt as an important forage and sport species. The limit applies to both dip-net and hook-and-line anglers. This new regulation also takes effect April 1, 2009.

We went out last night to look around and see if any fish had moved into the lake yet. Fished from 7-10:30 with out any luck. The lake is still a bit warm. We hit a bunch of our spots , but still ended with a blank. This cold air that's coming in should help. We may try again next week.

I'd be interested. I want to go out on the Bay but would like an experienced guide. I've got all the gear but no idea where to start.

Sounds like fun.

I like Nicks first idea the best.

We made it up for one day, (Thursday) High Presser dominated the weather. High presser and Walleye don't mix well. The fish we marked where in 30 fow and tight to the bottom. We ran Bouncers and crawler with no luck. We tried other presentations with out any luck either. We did pick up one 16"walleye well after dark over 12 fow. It's a beautiful area to fish. I took this shot from our resort dock just before breakfast.

It looks awesome!!!!

I run my probe all of the time. I had been using 12lb round cannon balls and this year switched to shark 12 balls. The blow back is less but it is still there. I just compensate for it. It does not cause me any problems though.
Tom, where do you get the shark 12 pound balls?

I've read a lot of these threads (asking the same question) over the years.
From what I read most like the Depth Rader. I have a Canon, and like Mainiac says they really blow back when deep. The thing I do not like with the canon is you need to remove the battery after every use, also the attachment system is not that great. The light percentage on the Canon is nice, but it only works %20 of the time

That really sounds like a wonderful trip.

Dave, I hope we have your luck (skill) also.
We most likely will drift or troll harnesses in the upper bay. If the weather isn't to bad I want to try some night trolling along the drops.
Thanks for the tips.

Nice finish to a great season Terry, Phil, and Roger

OMG, That's Hilarious.

Jim, it sounds like you had a nice season.
Good luck next year.

Take it from a Carpenter that most any thing will run the Nail Gun, but you will need the volume to run the Spray gun and impact. I would think 30 gallons would be about minimum. I am not a big fan of most Craftsmen stuff, but I do have a Craftsman Compressor that I keep in the garage that seams of descant quality.

If every thing goes well, my uncle and I are going to take a trip up tho the North country in the third week of October. We are thinking of fishing Bay De Noc for a day or two. I have fished it four times with mixed results. Is there any one out there that would like to give me any detailed pointers that may help us?
Thank You,
Ken.

If your having crossing problems I'd look at running ahead of the ball, that will eliminate any of those problems. I've run at 200 feet out and havn't had a problem after adding them. Just some input I've observed.

All I was doing was 1/4 casting the Hopkins out and: Reel, let fall, rise/reel let fall, repeat.
