  1. We fished in the terrible waves on Friday afternoon for a few hours with nothing to show for it but a sea sick passenger. On Saturday we tried in close where we did well 2 weeks ago but didn't have any action. The water had warmed up quite a bit and was almost the same temperature top to bottom so we moved out a little deeper. We still weren't having any action so we decided to run to where we had heard of good reports and as we were pulling lines ended up getting a nice coho but we already had our minds set on moving so we did. It ended up paying off for us as we got our 2 man limit by 9:30am. On Sunday we headed to the same area but the fishing had slowed up a bit we had good action to start then in got slow. We ended up with 6 silvers and released 3 lake trout and lost about 7 all in all a great weekend of fishing all besides the terrible flies! Our best action was in 55-65fow with our baits down 20ft to the bottom. Michigan stinger UV green gator on a 8 color was by far the best bait of the weekend!
  2. We fished out of the Portage on Saturday we set lines in 40 fow and had all lines set by 5am. We didn't take our first fish for about a half hour but once they started we had steady action. We ended up having over 25 bites only being able to land 10 with 1 throw back king. We got two 14lb kings and a 8lb king which where our first kings of the season and boy did we get reminded why we love them so much! We pulled lines around 10:15am because of prior obligations but the boats that stayed out kept getting them. On Sunday we did pretty much they exact same setup we had all lines in by 5am but started just a bit east of where we did on Saturday. We ended up getting 7 with 1 throw back king. We had to pull lines at 8:30 due to prior obligations again but if we would have stayed out there I'm sure we could have finished our limit. Our best water was 40-50fow from the ditch to Gary light best bait depth was bottom 30ft. We caught all of our fish on spoons with 4,6,8 color lead and 150 Morgan's copper pulled behind Church tackle boards being the best. Michigan stinger Carmel dolphin, puke, and pink panties where hot!
  3. We made the trip up to Northpoint Marina for the first time ever after hearing of great coho action. That was no lie the coho where on fire. We headed up Friday afternoon after work we set lines at 5:30pm and pulled at 7:30pm and ended up 6 for 9 all coho. On Saturday morning we had a 4 man crew and ended up going 17 for about 21. Sunday we got our 3 man limit and ended up having to release 3 fish as we pulled lines. Our best depth was 230-260fow with best action being in the top 40ft. Most of our fish came on 2 and 3 color lead and braid divers set at 50-70ft on counter. The hottest baits where orange dodgers with peanut flies. We had a great weekend for our first time fishing out of this port and we will be back!
  4. Rough and tough sums up the South Haven Steelheaders Pro/Am Tournament that we fished this past weekend. The conditions were extremely rough and the fishing was tougher. We fished the Friday 5 Fish Tournament and ended up with 2 lake trout and 1 coho which didn't do us any good in the tournament. On Saturday the tournament was canceled due to high waves and wind. On Sunday the tournament was delayed 1 hour although the waves weren't that bad at the start of the tournament it didn't take long for the wind and waves to pick back up. The wind and waves made boat control near impossible but we did our best and ended up boating 6 lake trout which wasn't enough to place us very well. We fished just south of port near the weather buoy in 50-70fow. We had our best luck on Shasta Slingblades with a spin and glow near the bottom color didn't seem to matter as long as it was near the bottom. All in all a good weekend we just wish the weather have been better!
  5. We headed up to ST. Joe on Friday afternoon to put the boat in the water and do some pre fishing for the SCHU'S SUMMER CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT. It was a perfect evening on the water, but fishing was slow for us we fished in 80-120fow with nothing to show for it. On Saturday with strong winds forecasted we decided to head off shore to 200fow to get our silver fish first, but it took us a little longer than expected. After finally getting the coho we needed we headed into 70fow between ST. Joe and South Haven to pick up our lake trout the problem was we could only find one so we pulled lines and headed further north then reset. The waves were starting to really build at this point and made it tough to fish so we did not end up getting any of the other trout we needed for the tournament. We ended up with 3 fish total and we needed 5 for the tournament so we did not place well, but with the terrible waves we fished in we where just happy to be on solid ground again. On Sunday we brought the boat up to South Haven for our next tournament. We did some fishing and ended up with a decent laker in 100fow and the headed offshore to 200-220fow to see if the coho where still around and ended with 5 only running 6 rods. The fish where all over the water column with stinger spoons on 150ft of Morgan's copper run behind church boards taking the most fish. A mixed veggie stinger on a rigger down 135 was also hot. The next tournament on the list is in South Haven this upcoming weekend 5/13-15 and we can't wait!
  6. It really didn't matter they hit just about everything we put out the spoons and spin and glow but they seemed to like green the most in both
  7. We fished the HOOSIER COHO CLUB CLASSIC TOURNAMENT this weekend and had some very tough weather to deal with. We pre fished Friday afternoon for a few hours before the captains meeting and ended up with 1 small laker and a throwback coho in front of the pier heads. After not much success on Friday we decided to head northeast towards New Buffalo on Saturday. We started in 85 fow and trolled our to 120 before making a turn and heading into the building waves without a bite. We then made the decision to pull lines and head to shallower water. We took our first fish in 75 fow and then started taking fish again in 55-45 fow. We ended up landing only 2 lake trout but had 6 other bites and 3 were really nice fish that we lost. After day one of the tournament we were in 6th place so we knew we needed our 10 fish on day two in order to make a comeback. We ended up heading to the same area a was able to find the fish we needed to make our comeback we ended up with 4 coho, 1 brown, and 6 lake trout. We weighed our best 10 fish and it was enough to get us a 2nd place finish! We had a great time and are looking forward to fishing the St. Joe tournament next weekend!
  8. We fished the HOOSIER COHO CLUB PRO/AM TOURNAMENT this weekend. We decided to fish on the PRO side and we ended up 12th out of 20 boats. The tournament got delayed due to the weather not sure if it hurt or helped us other than losing an hour of fishing time. We ran west and fished 40-55fow we ended up with 6 lake trout but just didn't have any real big ones but they were all decent fish. On Sunday the girlfriend and I decided to do some searching we ran out to 150 fow and trolled northeast to 220 fow and trolled around out there for a little while we picked up 2 lake trout then decided to head shallower. We set back up it 80 fow and trolled to 60 fow and stayed in 60-65 fow looking for silvers and ended up with 2 more lake trout. The weather turned out great both days and we are getting excited for the first big tournament of the year the HOOSIER COHO CLUB CLASSIC this weekend!
  9. Zip zero zilch nadda that's what we caught yesterday afternoon while pre fishing. We dropped lines around 5pm in 60 FOW and trolled out to 90 FOW made a turn and headed back to 60 FOW before pulling lines and heading in nothing to show for it.
  10. Well after getting the boat rigged and ready to go it was time to do some pre fishing Friday after work for a few hours. After working out a few bugs in the boat we got to go fishing we only had lines in the water for about an hour before the sun set and we didn't have a bite fishing in front of pier heads. On Saturday we made the decision to head off shore and it payed off we ended up going 9-10 all coho and it was good enough to take 4th place in the Buffalo Bill Tournament. We were pleased with that especially being our first tournament in the new boat. Michigan Stinger spoons and Shasta Tackle sling blades with small coho flies on downriggers and Church Tackle boards with Morgans copper did the damage. We are fishing the upcoming Hoosier Coho Club Pro/Am this weekend and we are looking for similar or better results! We also did fish Sunday at first in front of the pier heads in Michigan City with no action then we decided to head up to New Buffalo and finally got into some fish which were all lake trout and definitely kept us busy! Here are some pictures enjoy!
