  1. Well it was a bumpy 3 days for the 17.75ft tracker. Prefished friiday for a few hours out of port sheldon and ended 4-7 in about 2 hours before we were sick of fighting waves with 2 guys, all nice kings 90-100, 1 on meat on a low diver, rest on 300 and rigger mod uv dolphin and uv green dolphin. sat. morning was bumpier yet took us forever to get to where we wanted to set, missed one on a high with meat setting, then a laker on a 300 mod. dolph. 3 others on meat one on a 300 other on high divers. That was just good enough to be on the bubble with 43lbs. Today started off flattish, ran out and got set up, only to have a pro boat on auto pilet disregard are yelling and horns and run over our lines and not even look at us from 50 ft. away, thanks Start off a bad morning rougher than hell ended with one fish in 150 steelhead on a 300. fun ride back in 6-8fters after they called the tourny at 11. slid out of the money just couldnt get anything going today. Good Job to those that did.
  2. We did get one for big red. You should put it in your rules since you have to have one for yours Terry, guess we should have just been happy to come in to no-one with a nice box, radio wouldnt have done anything with the distance but who cares i guess you all have perfect equipent, all i was was disapointed and this blew in to something different
  3. I totaly agree with the fact that lake sucked and it should have been canceled. I agree its for fun but im competitive, and if i just wanted to fun fish, I wouldnt pay the extra to do so. MOst guys that fish any tourny have that same maybe more so in some. I just didnt like that every boat was NOT accounted for. Looked and looked around for somone when we came in to no avail. After the tourny and untill yesterday was just disapointed and that was it,not even upset really. the responses after are what got me going. Teryy saying that somone cant figure out starting time...cmon really? You didnt have a radio a few tournys back, should u have not fished? And make it a rule that you need a VHF if you want to say we need one, coast guard doesnt say it anymore and it isnt my boat so why would i by one for it? Anyhow good luck to you guys in the future, i have big red and then gold coast coming up so have to save for those
  4. Yea first pic looks for sure king, that second pic screamed coho with the coloring. Nice job
  5. It is fairly easy to watch the other boats take off at 6 and know thats when your supposed to leave, if weigh in started at 1030 when did it end? Should we have ran through the storm to get there and not wait it out even if we had known so that we could make it back in time? It also says tournaments may be canceled do to inclement weather, not that we will weigh in early? Ludington was CANCELED that saturday to, there was no weigh in. It looks like there were quite a few boats that didnt weigh or pay....so were we not the only ones??? And what would the radio have done being that we were up by Grand Haven anyway, probably wouldnt have heard anything. I am on the lake alot, and was talking to your boat Jim, so thanks. And every tournament DOES NOT require it, cant see where it says it is required for wmfl, SO AS I SAID MAKE IT A RULE dont blame someone for not having something that ISNT REQUIRED and we fished the in the SH tourny and DIDNT have a radio for that either just have to let tourny director know. There was even a spot on the registration to tell them if you did or didnt. I wasnt trying to point blame or anything i was just pointing out the fact I was a bit upset that nobody was thereat weigh in and nothing was even posted on here. After your response I will will not be fishing any more along with a few other boats.
  6. That doesnt look like a king your dad is holding, looks like a big coho. Nice job on the fish
  7. So there was a weigh in, we came in at 1 and no-one around. Dont have a vhf but wouldnt have mattered much since we were in GH when the storm hit and ran to PS to sit it out. Kinda disapointed that some did get to weigh in as we had by Far our best box of the year. I think either you need to make VHF manditory or put a post on the tourny thread so everyone knows its a done deal, we sat it out and went back out and fished...came in to no one around to even say it was cancelled.
  8. I guess it got cancelled? We came in with a nice box and noone around anywhere. We had to sit out the storm in PS and then finished up trolling south back towards holland. Weighed 2 16's, 1 12 and 1 9, all kings.
  9. I took 4 more out of GH tonight in an hour, 1 nice brown and 3 12-14lb kings again not one thing in the kings guts, granted i havent cleaned 200, but somewhere around 40-50 and have yet to see more than 2 ales on one this year. Did mark alot of bait even snagged an ale on a 2 color tonight.
  10. I guess im the opposit, I havent found an ale in a fish last 2 trips there. Steelhead or salmon, Steelies, were packed full of lady bugs, kings empty.
  11. Never said they werent there in the mud, been saying they are. I have been there a few times myself and done well in it.
  12. That is the ideal temp for them, but they do seem to be out of temp more and more, the bait is in there due to the nutriants from the mud/polutants so thats where the kings hold. As far as the size limit deal how much would it do when most of those small fish would die from being drug around anyway. I wish there was better way of releasing but alot of times it isnt practical. It will be 5 years before they resurvey the king size, that is how they will decide weather or not to increasekings, not by number of ales but size of 3 year old fish, I believe they will not increase stocks untill over 50% of 3 year old females are 18lbs or better is what it was, unless they have changed that. The fishing will getworse from hear on out untill plants are bumped up. They do NOT want to plant atlantics, its kinda a last resort they are very expensive to raise and generally dont do that well and are very nomadic. As well as small, they don not avrage 8 lbs for land locks. more like 4-5
  13. What charter boats are averaging 8-15 kings per trip? I talk to quite a few and know 1 that has hit double digits on kings one time since may.
  14. not saying there lying, but i would be shocked anyone on the lake that fishes more than once a week has averaged over 5 KINGS per trip. Alot of guys can catch trout and steel, to mix in with a salmon or 2 and make a good trip.THeres a popular guide on the muskegon that always gets the steelhead if you go by his pics. And many guys have busted those lies many times. Just saying there is few fish around, and few if any big secrets out there. So noone is killing them day in and day out. You can look at the tourny weights that dont include trout and see how bad it is. Look at the returns to the wiers and see how low the numbers were last year, and its now 50% lower on numbers this year.
  15. As said Grand Haven and Musk. pump out lots of warm water, and polution which attracts bait, thats why fish hold around it more, even natural reproduction doesnt have alot to with it, the little man which is very high on that list had next to zero return last year, an all time low return to the wier. As far as charter reports take them with a grain of saly that i there livelyhood and there not gunna post the 1 2 and 3 fish trips, who would want to go. There will be good days but they are few and far between and not near as good as what used to be considered good.
  16. Im gunna try to make it, what were the results from this saturday? I had to leave to get to a grad party.
  17. I hear that every year the last 3 years, of which each year has been progressively worse salmon fishing. The winter was to long, summer to cold, water isnt setting up...this is MUCH worse than any year alot of us have ever seen. There is less fish in the lake due to cuts which is easy to see why there are way less being caught. It will be worse yet next year unfortunatly. Some ports are virtually salmonless many days, at least there are some steelhead and to many trout around.
  18. Took a short trip tonight, ended up 7-11, 3 kings, 4 steelhead. 30-60ft. in the mud. 2 kings on white slick spinny, uv gas. meat rig combo on a high diver 60 back, also broke one off on same set-up. 1 king 1 steelie on other high diver 80 back, showtime spinny and meat rig. One steel on a flat line with a thin fin, 1 on 2 color with shrimp spoon also lost one after its 15-20th jump:), one 3 color with uv mixed veg lost one on this too. Great night other than the idiot show that comes with GH, little sporty in the 14ft. with 40 and up ft. long boat roaring by 20 ft. in front of you. Had a 50 plus ft. go up on plane 10 15ft from us still 50 t. in the channel took some of that one over the side.
  19. Yea he does do a good job, never has taken much time and when he comes up on the lake you can tell he is aware of boards and does a great job, way better than a few ive seen up north that have almost ran over boards and not seemed to care.
  20. Not sure whats up with the CO's at SH, been there like 6 times this season and checked 5 of those in parking lot, i'm fine with being checked and like seeing them out but there are other places:confused:
  21. Doesnt look like a steel, but either way good job
  22. Not typical June fishing, because there was no good fishing before and it has never been this slow even during for me. There will be more good days, but unfortunatly your 26 fish July trip is a thing of the past, good luck finding a 10 King day from here on out.
