Looks like the fish are setting up! great news
-
thanks for the report. Finally some july fishing.
-
Looks like the fish found a camping spot for now. good to hear.

What is a Skams? I'm not familiar with that term.
the skams have "tubes" in their tails that normal steelies dont. hard to tell unless someone shows you, but its just about the only way to tell besides body shape on bigger ones.
-
Im interested in 1 of the leadcore setups if its still available after friday.
-
Fished 5 - 10pm
Ended up 7 for 9.
Started a few miles north and ran a south troll thru 75-90 FOW.
Took 2 skams and a small king. Then plowed back north as the fish dried up and tried 90 - 120 south again.
Tons of huge bait balls and fish marks in 110-120 and stayed there the rest of the nite.
Was only 3 for 4 until the last hour when they turned on big time. Less then 5 minutes after i put flounder pounder on the diver it went, put another one on the rigger and it went twice in 15 minutes.
Was pulling lines and had the board of the 200' copper halfway to the boat when a fish ripped it!
Rigger set 65 - moonshine RV green flounder pounder took 2 hits, 6lb king and 17lb king.
Dipsy set 1.5 back 135 - moonshine green flounder pounder. 8 pound king.
Rigger set 50 - 10in blue/uv spin doctor w/ siggs riggs powder hypnotist. 7 pound king.
Dipsy set 1.5 back 165 - 8 in pro troll green dots w/ rapture frosted fern. large skam, and lost a screamer that broke the fly leader.
Full core - stinger steelie stomper. 1 skam.
200' 32lb copper - dreamweaver 4d green w/ orange ladderback. 8 lb king.
Rigger set 65 - mag silver streak blue chilly willy. Miss
Rough but worth it! 75-90 held mostly skams, 120 held kings.
Skams were full of bait, kings mostly empty stomachs.

-

Hey guys, thats the nearshore forecast.
most of the time your fishing offshore, which reads
TONIGHT
SOUTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KT WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 30
KT EARLY BECOMING NORTHWEST 10 TO 15 KT. CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING...THEN SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS AFTER MIDNIGHT. WAVES 4 TO 6 FT OCCASIONALLY TO 9 FT
SUBSIDING TO 1 TO 3 FT LATE.
SATURDAY
NORTH WINDS 10 TO 15 KT EARLY INCREASING TO 15 TO 25
KT WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 30 KT. WAVES BUILDING TO 4 TO 6 FT
OCCASIONALLY TO 9 FT.
most guys say "noaa is terrible this isnt anything like the forecast"
i hear it all the time on the radio. Thats because the offshore tells the real story.
Thats just my 2 cents.
Im goin to play it safe and stay home.
-
current NOAA forecast shows that it will be bumpy but no small craft
im waiting for the late forcast to be sure but as of right now im out.
-
Looks like its pickin up!
Thanks for the info and nice job

SHARPEN THEM HOOKS!
No really! everytime its out of the water sharpen it.
Whats that? you got a new hook? SHARPEN IT. common mistake is thinkin they are sharp out of the box.
other then that, keeping tension and hopin for the best is about all you can do. sometimes they short strike or just wack at the head.

The fleas will still get on the wire but it is no problem to get them off and they only stick to the last 4 to 5 feet of wire before the dipsey. It doesn't interfere with the guides on your rod like the Power Pro or mono dipseys, and the Fleas come off easily by comparison. Good call on the wire and go ahead and use a good Okuma dipsey rod I put the Twill tip on mine and have no problems. remember to keep tension on the wire when you store the rod or you will get curly wire.
thanks for the tip about storing them. saved me a headache im sure.
-
I know its still early but the latest forecast for saturday doesn't look good.
SATURDAY
NORTH WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WAVES BUILDING TO 3 TO 5 FT
OCCASIONALLY TO 8 FT.
-
its definitely not that hooker that i wasn't with last Tuesday. Nope. definitely not.
-
So if I read these posts correctly, the regular tip guide is OK to use with wire? If so, that would be great for me, less gear to buy! I'm still running braid, have no GPS/graph, no copper yet, I'm like fishing in the stone age, LOL! thanks guys!
gps/graph would be the first on my list. and dont feel bad about no copper and only running braid. i ran a 4 rod spread for 2 years and did pretty darn good.
-
so you lost the rod?
at least there was some excitement.

Joe, you already found the solution if you buy the flea flicker monfilament line. It works well for me, and has since I first bought it years ago. The line is flat, instead of round, and it does not catch the nuisance fleas. I have no problem tying knots, nor with releases. It costs a bit more, but heck, it works, and those fleas can drive a person back to the dock in a hurry if you don't have it aboard. Good choice, you'll be happier at the end of your fishing trip for sure.
Thanks for the response. Your information was helpfull.

Whats everybodys opinion on this?
Fleas were so bad ive been loosing fish. Running 20lb big game on my riggers.
Ive heard that flea flicker doesnt tie knots very well and doesnt work in releases very well.
Just looking for any solution to these damn fleas!

Hey guys,
with the fleas being as bad as they are im thinking of makin the switch to wire divers. My question is, i run okuma glt pro dipsy rods, would i need to add some sort of twilli tip? or are the guides ok without them.
Also any brand/type of wire better then the other?

occasional chatter on 72. mostly 68.
