  1. hey everyboby. i was just wandering, after the fall bite is over and deer season is done, what do you guys and gals do to pass the time untill the spring bite starts?? i use to ice fish. but after my health went south, theres just not much i do in the cold nasty weather. i do have family that lives in florida, so some years i manage to go visit them during the month of feb. by then i have had about all the winter i want. and by the time i get back the weather has started to brake. so i can just play with getting my fishing stuff ready for spring. merry christmas to you one and all. and a happy and good new year. sherman
  2. hey prop nut if he brought the boat into your shop, could you hook it up for him?? sherman
  3. not only can santa make sweet music, he can hit his high notes,LOL. sherman
  4. hey rascal i wasnt on a freeway i was just on a 2 lane road and came to a short passing zone. had to hurry to get around him in the short passing zone. and yea, i always slow down for work zones. we owe it to those workers to give them a brake.
  5. just want to rant alittle, and get some opinions. i was traveling to tenn. was still in indiana, i was following this car, he keeps speeding up and leaving me, then he will slow down and i catch him and have to slow down. i got tired of this and when i got a passing zone, it was a short passing zone, so i floored my car, by the time i got around him i had got pretty fast. a few minuets later a state cop pulls me over. he said he clocked me running 82 mph by the time i got around the car. he did cut me alittle slack, he wrote the ticket for 70 mph. now what i would like to know is how many of you speed when passing another car?? and who thinks you should get a ticket for speeding while passing?? i plan to just mail the fine in and be done with it. but i think it was a cheap shot ticket. what do you guys think??
  6. back in the late 70,s i have put all kinds of stuff out there. once we were not getting anything on the riggers and put out a big rapala broken back rainbow trout pattern, it turned out to be the hottest bite of the whole season,LOL. go figure. there were times we wouldnt be getting any hits, and we would say we were going to put out the kitchen sink. we tried everything in the tackle box. sometimes it worked and most of the time it didnt. but we were willing to try anything. and it was alot of work as we only had manual riggers. sherman
  7. welcome to the site. this is a great place to share info, and get some no nonsence answers to questions thats inportant to you. i,ve only been a member since early spring, and have talked to some great guys. sherman
  8. typical! one guy doing all the work and 5 guys watching,LOL. great fight on that fish. cant wait for spring. thanks for sharing. sherman
  9. i use a atv superwinch on my boat trailer. its rated at 3000# and i cut half of the cable off so i would have more torque. but it loads my 28 ft sea ray without any problems. but it runs slow with only half full arbor. but i only paid around 130.00 for it on ebay. they have some real cheap atv winches on ebay. but i couldnt tell you about the quaility of them. but i know superwinch makes a good winch. and it doesnt get hot pulling my boat on the trailer. and i have one on a kawasaki 700 and have pulled it out of some big mudholes down in tenn while riding. never had any problems with it. sherman
  10. another good way to get a couple more lines in the water. i use 15 lb braid and long line one of the small dipsy divers with a purple spoon from galeforcetackle.com. i run it 300 to 400 ft back and pick up alot of steelies this way. and there clear of everything elce on the boat. i just flatline one out on each side. just something to think about when you get your rod holders mounted. then you have your big divers and riggers for getting deep. when i want to get deep with my divers i use the lite bite slide divers. you can get extra rings and weights for them. i just use the large ring and the 4 oz weight. she will really get down there with this set up. anything under about 60 feet i just use the small ring and standard weight. 240 ft out on a 4 setting i hit bottom in 60 fow. using 65 lb braid with a floro leader. just alittle food for thought. sherman
  11. heres another update on the champion 4000 electric start. i had ordered one from amazon, but they put it on back order. so i looked on ebay and found one listed for 480.00 free shipping. so i emailed him and got one for 467.00 free shipping and he said he would ship right away. so i bought it, he shipped the same day, i got it 2 days later. it was late fri when i got it. we were ready to take off on our deer hunting trip. so i just threw it in the back of the truck. we got to our hunting site about midnight. we hooked up to my little 1850 watt husky. it did a good job running the furnaces and lights. but it only has a 1.3 gal tank. it only ran for 4 hrs then run out of gas. we came in for lunch and got the champion ready to go. hit the start button on it and it fired right up. then i shut it off went in the motorhome and hit the remote start, it came to life, it started right up. its gas tank is 4 gallon and is sopposed to run 12 hrs at half load. we ran it for 8 hrs and it took 2 gallons of gas to fill it up. then it ran 16 hrs and was still running when we decided to fill it up. heres the brake down the 1850 watt used 1.3 gallon in 4 hrs the champion used 1 gallon every 4 hrs. so its a better value on gas than the little one. it will run all night on a tank of gas. so you dont have to go out in the middle of the night to refill it. it has an automatic choke so it starts up real good. right now i would reccomend this generator to anyone that doesnt like having to pull the rope. i know its not a honda but the price was right. and im real happy with this generator so far. only time will tell. sherman
  12. i,ll bet that big boy caused you some sleepless nights. congrats on getting him. sherman
  13. i bought a couple of eagle claw rods at bretts with the triangler handles for my divers. i just love them. i would like to have all my diver rods made this way. but just cant justify the costs. all my old rod still work good. if i ever have to replace any of them i,ll go with the new handles. sherman
  14. i would really like to see one guy with 3 rods and a 50 to 70 lb fish on all 3 rods. but i think you should have the right to try it. you might fish all day with 1 rod and not get a fish. i think just 1 rod is just wrong. in indiana we can use 3, in michigan you can now use 3, in ohio its still 2. i personaly dont think they should have a 1 rod limit anywhere. sherman
  15. i know a guy that went out on the central basin of erie last year by himself. he ran 3 divers out each side and 2 downriggers. it took him about 2 1/2 hours to get his 6 eye limit. he didnt even have auto pilot. he drove with the waves and tied a big 6 volt flashlight to the steering wheel so the waves didnt throw him around sideways. he said it worked real good and only had to adjust the wheel a few times. he said he had no problem keeping up with 8 rods on the slow bite. im sure if he had got into a hot bite he couldnt have used so many rods he stopped fishing when he reached his 6 fish limit. except the fact it was braking the laws, what did he do that was so bad?? if he had fished 10 hrs and got his limit the only thing different would have been about 80.00 more in gas and the wear and tear on his boat. i guess some of you will see this as poaching is poaching. but i seen nothing wrong with it as he wasnt keeping extra fish or undersized fish. he just speeded up the time it took him to get his limit. there was no other boats within miles of him, so he wasnt being reckless. whats your take on this adventure?? sherman
  16. i finelly made up my mind. from all the reviews i,ve read and the post by a couple of you guys, then i found the champion 4000 electric start on amazon for 437.00 with free shipping, so i just ordered one this morning. i,ll let you guys know later if i made a good choice. sherman
  17. looks like a steel vardin (dolly vardin x steelhead) the tail looks alot like a dolly but the rest is anybodies guess. but then there all guesses,LOL. maby some old timer will chime in with the right name,LOL. sherman
  18. looks like just what the doctor (wife) ordered,LOL. nice lookin boat. sherman
  19. i just fish the central basin for walleye now. but its really the same thing. unless you are already maxed out on diver rods you would be better to just put out another diver. i have 4 riggers on my boat but rarely use more than 2 of them. i have 1 out each side and 1 back off each corner. i run 4 divers on each side then i have 2 outriggers i use the small dipsy,s on for fish up high, then i just use the riggers to get more lines in the water if i have that many people onboard. in ohio your only allowed 2 rods, so i can fish 6 people and only use 2 riggers. sherman
  20. i would just put 2 out the side and 2 off the corners going back. thats how i have always run more than 2 riggers. i thing one down the middle is just asking for trouble. and with the outboard just doubles the problems. just my opinion. sherman
  21. oh shucks, you just beat me by one little deer. i got 3 with my 98 grand marquis a few years ago. but it did do 3700.00 in damages to my car,LOL. the bad thing was i was going to tenn for a funeral, so i had to just leave them. good hunting,LOL. sherman
  22. thanks guys for all your good advice. and i realize there are alot better generators out there. but im on a very limited budjet. i just want to get the best i can for the money i can spend. i had an old coleman powermate that just puked on me,LOL. it was a 6250 watt and did a great job while it was running. i would check into getting it fixed, but that costs as much as getting a new one. i just want to use it mostly to run lights and the tv and satellite and sump pump when the power goes out. and maby just to have portable power if i need power someplace. i dont plan on using it that much. and the champion has the regular plug for my rv to hook up. but you really dont need it. i have an adaptor so i can plug the rv into any regular plug in. i have a 7000 watt generator in my rv that is broke down right now. but i plan on getting it fixed this spring. the estamate i got on fixing it was around 800.00. i already have a little 1850 watt i plan on using for the rv while deer hunting. its cheap on gas but you just have to fill the tank often. i only plan on using the furnase and lights. but i want something bigger for the sump pump when the power goes out. sherman
  23. im going to get a portable generator in the near future. im looking at the champion 4000 electric start and the duromax 4400 electric start. if any of you guys has any knowledge of them please help me out. right now im leaning towards the champion. they are both in my price range. but the champion sounds like the best one for my $$. ofcourse i would be better of with a honda, but i just dont have the $$ for them. sherman
  24. those are some great pictures on that link. but i have seen some pictures on here that should have been entered in this contest. sherman
  25. hey, you cant ask that question,LOL. i dont think any of us really wants to know the answer to that,LOL. SHERMAN
