  1. I added 2 walker manual riggers 17 inch bert tracks on each side 2 berts ratcheting rod holders 2 traxstech track mounted downrigger swivels
  2. I get pumped up like a little kid man! So do most of the people I fish with. Hope to be yellin "fish on" a lot this year. Being this is going to be my first year on the big water I am a little nervous that I won't catch many fish. Been reading anything I can find for tips.
  3. Going out tomorrow for an all day event. Anything out of whites beach that is going to be an issue? 1st time out on the bay this year. Will have snowmobile. Thanks
  4. I used 3/4 inch oak under the gunnels with my 17 inch bert tracks. It is pretty much the same length as the track and a little wider. I wish I could have used a much longer piece, but I didn't have much room to work with. On the driver side track I could only get the washer and nut on the 3 bolts on one side of the track. The other 3 I didn't have enough room to get at them. Lund sure made it hard to access under the gunnels. The bolts without the washer/nuts are really tight in the oak but I am hoping they hold. I can just see half my boat being ripped off by a king. Just don't know how to remedy the situation without unassembling my boat.
  5. Now you are talking Mark! I was going to take a day or two off, but I will wait to get on the softwater.
  6. I'm a little jealous. Here I am going out ice fishing on the Saginaw bay and you are on the soft water tanglin with greasers. What was the water temp? Thanks and good job on the feeeesh.
  7. Like nick said, go to northwoods and get the stuff. The prices in the store are cheaper than their website. You can,t beat their prices on berts stuff. Tracks for less than 40 and adjus rod holders for 45. Traxstech stuff was on sale at gander last week. I bought my track mounted rigger swivels for less than 55.
  8. Will be fishing a local lake this week. Can't wait! Ice fishing is fun and all but I am sick of augering through 15 inches.
  9. Ok well things changed a little bit. I actually have a cabelas credit card and they have some things priced especially for club members. I ended up getting 2 Okuma lookalike cabelas dx45's with dipsy 9 foot rods for 44.95 each. Then I had $16.00 in club dollars. I got them delivered to the door for $92.00. If I didn't have a cabelas card they would have been $70 each. Even if I replace them next year w/ convectors I can sell them and get most of my money back. That also frees up a little for spoons/flashers and flies/and a few plugs. Edit: I am gonna cancel the order and just get the convectors I was originally gonna get. I'm not going to cheap out and kick myself later.
  10. Try gander mountain. Not saying to buy it there, but they would prob have one on display.
  11. Welcome to the site! You think you have to pick your days, I'm rolling in a 16.5' lund angler ss:)
  12. I have the humminbird 757 gps/sonar combo and love it. Love the color screen. I did have a problem with the transducer and sent it in. They had it back to me in less than a week. Great customer service. It was in the middle of the season when I sent it in too. Like others have said. It locks on really quick with the external gpd receiver. I have marked fish on the run but don't know about 25mph. Not sure I would trust the marks even if.
  13. I stopped by NW last saturday on way back from augre. Went just for berts rod holder and also came hom with some ice fishing gear. The rod holders were 45 and everywhere else they are 69-79. I can't take extra money this time or my wife will have my...
  14. I am for sure going with the northwoods convector combos. May swing over to pinconning on way to houghton lake this weekend. I am glad I joined this website. Lots of people looking to help. Dave can you send me all specs on that leadcore setup? Maybe I can squeeze it into my budget.
  15. Us eastsiders aren't as lucky as you westside boys:)
  16. I am in the same situation as the OP. I just couldn't justify going with electrics. I wanted to make sure I this was something I would really get into. I ended up getting the Walker Lake Rangers for like 94 bux each from Cabelas. They had great reviews and fit my 16.5 foot Lund perfect. I can't wait to get out and put them to use. Good luck and let us know what you do.
  17. Went to gander and got my traxstech downrigger swivels. They were on sale for 54.99 each! Got the last two 4 inchers. Seem to be great quality. Wish I could say the same about the gander staff:)
  18. Sweet! One less thing to boggle my simple mind. Looks like I will stay within my budget. Now I need to find more money for lures, flashers, etc! My wife just has no clue how expensive fishing gear is, she thinks I buy things that I could do without. She doesn't understand that with each species comes new gear. Thanks!
  19. Ok I called Northwoods and they have a convector 30d and 9 foot Classic Pro medium rod combo. Is that gonna get me in the game? It is in my price range also. I am overwhelmed by all the choices. Glad you guys have a clue. Thanks
  20. shouldn't you be working? We'll see if I can get you away from walleye long enough for 10 trips! Later
  21. Wow this snow is killing me. Have done 3 long driveways 3 times each with my quad starting last last night. I am whooped. I definitely don't want to buy cheap junk, would rather but good stuff at a good price. I am going to call northwoods in a second and see what a convector setup would cost me compared to a 45dx setup. Not gonna get the 45x to only save 40 bucks on the 2 though. Nick, I am gonna buy those penns for my riggers from you like we talked about. Thanks guys!
  22. My budget is getting slimmer by the day. I just got into this game and my walleye stuff will not cut it. I just put on bert tracks, bert ratcheting rod holders, 2 walker lake ranger manuals. I got the lecture tonight. I am going to start off by running 2 riggers and 2 dipsies off my 16.5 ft Lund. I have the 2 rods for the downriggers and that's it. I need 2 reels for the riggers and 2 rod/reel setups for my dipsies. I have a $300 budget for right now and I need to buy $150 worth of downrigger swivels. So that leaves me with $150. I will have more coin, but have to start collecting what I need. Rerigging a boat is not cheap, especially when going to salmon fishing:) It sounds like the convectors are the way to go. Guess I will just have to bite the bullet. I want them to last.
  23. My wife has put the kabosh and my fishing budget so I have to budget shop. I need 2 dipsy setups that won't break the bank. I plan to run 2 dipsy rods with 30 lb braid. Will the accudepth 27lc's work with dipsys or should I go with Okuma 45dx's? I can get the diawas new for under $40 and not sure about the okumas. These will only get like 10 uses a year. Thanks in advance!
  24. Thanks for your honesty. I think it all comes down to a good boat for big water, is not going to be a good boat for Houghton. I do have a 14 footer that has a 9.5 horse so maybe eventually the wife will let me upgrade. Love your boat though. Always liked ther setup of islanders. Brandon
