  1. Thanks for the great pics. and report from the Red Fish gold coast of fishing. Looks like spring is there now, hopefully, it lasts. I'm looking forward to launching my 19' CC Maycraft to get started here pretty soon too. The offshore fishing is just starting for Cobia and good Trigger fish. The winds are calming down, along with the waves, so let's get them.
  2. Well..................that's not a hard answer. When G.W.Bush was in office not too long ago, and I wasn't a big fan of his either, a moratorium on offshore drilling got lifted within 11 days of the Mideast Oil Cartell trying to raise oil prices/our gas prices over $4/gallon. And it worked, our gas prices soon decreased drastically below $2.50/gal.. The same could work again, but this leader, President, doesn't learn from History, nor anything else. He's a shallow impression of a true leader, and only cares about environuts, polls, and votes. Sad. P.S. We probably have so many untapped reserves, new fields, and old stockpiles, that we could probably reduce the price of gas to under $1/gal., if we really and truly wanted to. P.S.S. Look at our stockpiles of automobiles on the road right now, is there more diesel/gas vehicles, electrics, or steam engines in production, we need to fulfill the current needs, not wants and future desires. The future is just that, not the present.
  3. Many thanks for the great picture and love for Kensie, she's one lucky pup. Enjoy.
  4. Yes, I was just mailed about 100 brochures on the Asian Carp to share that tells the entire story on them, courtesy MIDNR. If you don't have one, ask the DNR for one, or I'll mail one per PM request with address. Quite revealing and shocking, the films that document them are also quite shocking. If Michigan does not prevail to have them vanquished from our lakes, we are in big trouble in the future, sadly.
  5. I heard this rumor 2 years ago too, and told our local CO's that I was totally against any such cuts. It took quite a few years of experimentation to get the lamprey program perfected. It now works very well, at least in Lk. Michigan. We rarely see any on the fish now. We used to see them all the time 20 years ago, and they were a nasty thing to attach to the fish. I wish they would consider and insist on cutting other programs that do not work, are waste, and keep the successful one here. But, that's government for you, always trying to perfect that which is waste and cut the good programs. Never in the private sector.
  6. I always knew these to just be Divers, not Diiivers. Anyhow, looks like he kinda incorporated the slide diver technique, but now you have to add your own weights to it to work, and like others say, hard to tell where the bait is going to be. I do like the fact it can dive alot deeper, but some of our mag divers with big rings and a small wt. can do equally the same. Saw the video, but no pricing, I'm guessing $25 each or more? Anyhow, maybe someday, I'll check on others like Matt to see how they work first. I have slide divers I can modify for now.
  7. Went to their website today, pretty interesting, although, I don't like buying out of State made products very often. I'd rather support our local lure/fly makers whenever possible to keep that Michigan economy rolling along. Haven't tried those VMC red hooks either, my experience with red Japanese circle hooks on flies some years back was awful, the fish destroyed them, and I lost a bunch of fish, until I replaced with American VMC and Eagle Claws to cure the ills. Those big boy salmon on Lk. Michigan require heavy tines to land securely.
  8. Should be fun, since I'm new, just wondering, what type of pics. are you looking for, just anything, biggest fish, most fish, or what exactly? Any link to the fly maker sponsor? Thanks.
  9. Now that it's over, I just saw this thread, how did it go? Did you get your money's worth? Any grab bag goodies we should be aware of for next time? P.S. Thanks to GLF creator for the call on BCII's no negativity comments, got tired of hearing that over at another forum last year too much. These guys are real sharp pro's no matter what, wish I could of made the show, just for the seminar alone.
  10. Been some time since I could afford the vacation time and gas expense to go there, but when I did, WOW, the west side where the drop off is was very good indeed. We always had big fish and good action on the cliffs overlooking the west side of the Island. The bank would drop off from 75'-300' in no time, real good structure for bait fish and thermals. Not much competition with other boats either. The people of the Isle are also great, they are homespun types and love fish boils too, not to mention the brewski's. Enjoy and thanks.
  11. Hey guys, didn't want to put any damper on the fishing forum with this one day post about our past Presidents, but I thought this day only comes once a year, and hey, it has it's meaning and importance to us all as Patriots of the USA. I know most of us have to work and the lucky ones get the day off. Either way, it's a day we all need to be proud of our heritage and forefathers for me anyways. And may we continue into the future with the same freedoms and rights to enjoy the sport we all love and live for, Fishing, God Bless our Country, and the Sportsmen whom appreciate the freedoms we have been graciously given to spend our free time on the water and land from which we can enjoy the sport in peace, tranquility, and memories for a lifetime to share and remember ourselves. Thanks.
  12. I'm so happy to see a thread that appreciates the Lake Trout fish we have in abundance in our Great Lakes. It makes me smile, cause so much negativity and condescending attitudes prevailed with this prize fish for so many decades. Hey, you guys ROCK! You know how to catch them, and how to prepare them for the table too. Thanks for a great thread and ample examples of what many miss out on in our fishing history and legacy for the future of Great Lakes Fishery for our sons and grandsons. Many thanks to all that posted.
  13. Another fine National Holiday for the USA, today we celebrate our national holiday by honoring our past leaders, the Presidents. Trivia question #1: who was the only President to serve (2), two non-consecutive terms in office? Answer: Grover Cleveland, Democrat, 22nd from 1885-1889 at age 47, and 24th from 1893-1897 at age 55. Trivia question #2: which President served the shortest term in office? Answer: William Henry Harrison, Whig Party, age 68, served 3/4/1841-4/4/1841. So, which Presidents from before and during your lifetime are your 2 favorites and why? My answer: Teddy Roosevelt, R. 1901-1909, and Ronald Reagan, R. 1981-1989. Why? Both stood strong in their responsibilities and respect for the office, accomplished many goals and achievements, and both took no crap from anyone.
  14. Sorry to hear that bottom damage Line Dancin, it's great to have good insurance for these circumstances, and that's exactly when you get the bottom fixed and painted with the best. With a 16,000 lb. boat to push, I doubt I could get much more speed by removing alot of layers, but anything is possible. I'll wait till some major damage comes and follow through the same way someday. For now, times are too hard to afford the best for me.
  15. Great decision and hope you enjoy this great site for avid fishermen.
  16. Happy to have another polite fisherman aboard, the GLF site is great, you'll enjoy it.
  17. Bottom paint has definitely gone over the top in price as of recent years in my opinion. I still use a cheap Interlux basic blue bottom paint. Do it myself or with a buddy over a six pack in the spring. Guess the choice is up to the captain of the ship, spend for bottom paint big time, or for other necessities of the season like lures and other tackle. As long as it protects the bottom and is easily pressure washed off in the fall, I'm not going overboard to impress the fish under the boat.
  18. Looks like that same seller has another one only bid a $1 so far, but it's a different color. Since he's in the Saginaw Bay area, you may want to PM him on any more offered offline. Quite the price already though at over $7 with a day to go. Thanks and good luck.
  19. If you guys need a place for a cookout or party to group up for June, let me know, I've got some ideas. PM me if you're interested. Thanks.
  20. Welcome aboard Noah, Frankfort is still a prime port to fish. Let us hear more as the season is upon us of the action there. Thanks for joining GLF.
  21. Fantastic Capt. Mark, thanks so much for sharing those wonderful pics. of the fish and good times. Can't beat Costa for sails and dolfin from all I've heard over the years. Gotta make it down there yet soon someday. Is this your boat? Who do you recommend? Thanks.
  22. A few years ago a friend opened a boat drawer and found about 50 new squids, and wondered what to do with them. I told him they were around well before all the new flies we use now, and that they really work too. He rigged about 6 of them right away and saw his catch drastically improve right away. Yes, they still work and the Michigan glow frog and glow clown were some of my favs..
  23. Another welcome aboard Eric, a lot of nice guys on the GLF with a lot of knowledge and fun fishing talk too.
  24. Don't know how many watched last night's game, but she was a real blast. With the Cheesehead PACKERS Winning. Great game and great players, although, I wasn't real impressed with the half-time show. Long live Green Bay and the Packers.
  25. Hi Frank and welcome to the site, and congrats. on the new boat, she's a looker and has nice lines for fishing, Pursuits are always nice.
