Salmon is out, I'll be in Alabama. (gonna try pier fishing off gulf shores, never done it before ) Walleye sounds good here.

Wish I could use the excuse about taking the father in law.....but he won't get off the couch or roam too far from the TV remote

I'm always hesitant about asking questions on a forum untill I get the feeling of how one is treated when asking questions. All I can say is that so far I have not expierienced anything other than folks helping folks on this forum.....and so far, I like it here.

Garden Peninsula Bucks from this years hunt.

Yes, we farmed close to 2,000 acres on the Garden Peninsula, dad retired and sold it about 1993 (?) so I had access to some great hunting. I still go back up there and hunt with some friends on their private land. Here's a better pic of my Garden Peninsula buck shot off our farm.

One of the deer in my avatar came from Delta County....had a chance at at least 3 of the same size. We bought some land near the Atlanta area 10 years ago, and have yet to score even a spike. I'm headed back to Delta.

That reminds me of what a friend told me some years back when he was led to believe there were great numbers of deer near Newberry.....on his return he told me he felt the deer population near Newberry was exactly the same as it was out in the middle of Lake Superior.....O!

As opening day gets closer, I get more anxious to head on up to Delta County for the start of firearms deer season. I'm all packed and ready to go, soon as Saturday gets here. I just wanted to say to all of you who enjoy the season, good luck and be safe. May the beer (insert favorite beverage) be cold, the food hot and the time spent in the woods memorable. Hope it is a success for you all.

When I think of weather like this I am reminded of the "Edmund Fitzgerald" anyone hear if any lake freighters sought safe refuge?

Not nearly as impressive as the others, but this is my biggest walleye this year. Taken on Trout Lake in Northern Minnesota.... 25" I decided to get this one mounted if for no other reason than it will be a reminder of a wonderful vacation I shared with my wife.

Is this limited to forum members only?......reason I ask is my son/s would more than likely be interested in attending, depending on his/their work schedule. If it is limited to just forum members, that is understandable.....just asking.

Just got home last night from spending 4 days in Michigans Upper Peninsula.....the bays de noc area to be specific. My youngest son Chris was not going to be able to go whitetail hunting this year due to a new job, so it seemed a good option would be a fishing trip where we used to live. We really wanted to catch walleye but everyone we talked to and what we read sounded like that wasn't gonna happen. We left Wed. evening after Chris got out of work and made the 6 1/2 hour journey to Garden and stayed with some friends. Got up early Thursday morning amid a downpour and headed to Escanaba to pick up some shirts and hats I have made every year at a place that does silk screen work. Left there and stopped in at Bayview bait and tackle to meet Chris Wahl and ask him any info about fishing in Little bay de Noc. He was very helpful and gave us some suggestions for Saturday. Travelled back to Garden and put the boat in at the fishing site launch and headed west to a well known bluff and trolled in 18-22' of water with a couple rapalas, one perch one silver. It wasn't long and we had our first fish on which turned out to be a bass, which we released. No more than released that fish and had another one on.....this time it turned out to be a northern pike. My son had never caught a northern before so this was a first for him. Not big by any means (28") but still a happy time for him. We ended the day when the weather just got to be too much and headed back to our friends place to put the boat in their garage and dry out a bit. Friday the conditions were not favorable, rains and heavy winds so I spent some time visiting my friends and family.....anxously awaiting fishing in Little bay de Noc. Saturday morning we launched out of van Cleve park and began trolling a area where the bait shop guy reccomended.....my friend caught a 12" walleye and released it......that was the only fish landed all day on Little Bay. Although we didn't land many fish, it was the time being spent fishing with my son and some friends that made the trip.....after all that's why we call it "fishing" and not "catching"......
