  1. I just wounder if some other company bought them out and there not selling them anymore . so that we have to buy the expensive units 400.00-500.00 , not saying that I wouldn't buy a unit that has speed at ball but I don't' have an extra 500.00 gathering dust.
  2. I am looking for a product called the fish finder made by Koch Industries, its a device you put on your rigger ball , drop down and reel back up and it give you temps at 5 - 10 ft intervals . Did a search on the internet and came up with zilch, nada . any help guys?
  3. Yea I know where all the cold water is , its on this side of the pond, we need some east winds , the fish are scattered from 30 to 50 ft .
  4. I have seen in videos guys using a flash from a camera to charge there baits , I picked one up one ebay (brand new) for .99 plus shipping. Shipping was 5.25 I think. for less the 7.00 a new flash unit to charge my baits what a deal. Here is another one I found if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-FLASHES-MANUAL-FILM-CAMERAS-FT1700-QA-25-/360282035625?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Digital_Camera_Flashes&hash=item53e27b95a9 Tight Lines Jim
  5. I have a 115 2 stroke on my Tracker Targa V17 not as heavy motor as the 4 stroke little better on the hole shot. The Targa is not a light boat when fully loaded with gear and fishermen but does do 40 ,even with a full tank of fuel and 1 full live well. This is a deep boat and wide at 101" . I,m not sure how deep the starcraft is but you should be at least close to what the boat is rated for. Sounds to me like the boat is under powered if its rated for a 150.
  6. Today was the first day I fished with J plugs and we went 2 for 3 on the J plugs, Lost a 15-20lber at the boat ,put on a show in the air. . Do you normally fish a j plug behind a flasher or run it naked? I ran them naked but was wondering if I should run it behind a flasher such as a spin dr or a flasher? or should it run behind a dodger? and which is better. Do you have your best luck on a rigger or lead core? Jim
  7. First thanks for the opportunity to be a field tester on this product. The hooks are excellent and should hold up very well. As for the fly, top quality skirt held up very well even though no fish were caught, we did have one on but it was lost. The flies were put up to A tough test as the bite, just prier to receiving the flies move to a spoon bite. I would definitly use the 2 hook version . The only bad point was that the eyes did fall off the flies. I had found one on the floor of the boat while setting rods. We ran the flies for about 3 weeks three time a week . Worked great on dipseys down riggers or lead core. Wish that I could have run them earlier by 2 weeks before the bite switch to spoons. I am always running a mix in my spread and in the last 3 weeks only one fish has been taken on a fly, it just wasn't one of Mikes Eyeflies. Tight Lines Jim
  8. What kind of advantage do the big boards have over inline boards. Isn't there a lot of slack to take up when a fish hits? are a lot of fish missed taking up the slack? Does it matter how far from the boat this is run. How many lines can you run off the big board. Would you run a dipsey of the big board? I was thinking I could make my own.
  9. Done that , turned around a few times when NOAA was wrong on the forecast, all the cold water is on this side of the pond. flat calm when we were out yesterday.
  10. The cold water is still close to shore, but the fish seem to be scattered.Took My father out on the big pond today , he has never caught a Salmon before. Left the launch at 1pm headed east to 45 ft, not very far. Set 9 rods 6 lead core 2 riggers and 1 dipsey. Being the middle of the day I figured that we get a fish or two , out for about a half hour and five color goes off, pull the rod and hand it off to my father. picked up a nice 8 lb king , get fish in the boat and Dad says is that rod suppose to be standing up straight? yea I said ,then looking up realized that it was the rigger and I thought he was talking about the lead core rod. 7lb king on a chrome green dot sd and a Mag tinsel fly. set at 45 down and 50 back.Ten minutes later 7 color start screaming ,Nick takes this one turns out to be the biggest of the trip at 12lb. Blue dolphin takes another one. 7 and five colors were the next 2 to go off , lost both , Dad really had fun couldn't budge the fish before spitting out the bait. Same thing happens to me on a blue chilly wily. The next 2 fish came on one of the spoons my wife picked out . a purple muffin. When she pick it out at Gander another gentle man kind of chucked and said to her would you bite it , we all had a laugh at that, only now shes laughing because her spoon has taken most of the fish since we bought it. Had a fun time with my father and son today . Just hope the weather and the cold water stay around for a while. 11. Nice bunch of fish Nailer, they look like there hooked now.
  12. my trips average somewhere about 3-4 hours not including drive time or fish cleaning. but I'm only 15 minutes from the ramp. when traffic is good.
  13. LAKE MICHIGAN - A group of boaters say their friend went missing early Saturday morning while going for a swim about 3 miles from McKinley Marina. It happened around 3 a.m. The Milwaukee Fire Department and Coast Guard are on Lake Michigan searching for the man. 1st Battalion Fire Chief Paul Conway says 4 people were on the boat. It is not known if alcohol was involved. Saw and heard the coast guard all afternoon looking for this guy, as far as I know they still haven't found anything, Why would you go swimming at 3am on lake michigan 3 miles from shore?
  14. Well I tell ya , pulling my boat out of the water today , you can't miss my truck or boat , not like its small or something , this idiot starts backing up right at my truck . So I toot the horn (small blast) he keeps coming so long blast , do these idiots have there radio turned all the way up or just blind, my father and son watched this happen and they were just shaking there heads, and said what an idiot. They are all around us, we are surrounded by stupidity. And how about the guy with the 30ft trailer that parks behind you not thinking that his ass is sticking out a mile into the traffic lane. Made for a real fun time getting my trailer out of the parking lot. And to boot all the people that are unaware of the fact that they have to walk across the launch ramps to get to the government pier. So they can walk out and see the water. Unaware of the fact that this is a busy place turn off the Ipod put down the cell phone and watch where you are going people!! In the Photo look at the back ground on the right you can see the sea wall which is the break wall, (gov. pier). this goes out for about a mile. now look in the picture you see the launch ramp these people walk right in front of moving vehicles all the time with out a care. Will post a report in the morning from today. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/2/3/7/7/m_dscn5082.jpg' alt='m_dscn5082.jpg'>
  15. Nice Coho wish I could find them around here like that!
  16. I use Church Walleye boards work great on my lead core . I'll be running 3 per side very soon.
  17. Back at it again ,this time with my wife and one of her friends Sarah , who has never fished before. Left the dock at 4:45 heading north to the filters. Trolled around for what seemed forever, dodging other boats , they kept trying to run over my 5 color. Guys auto pilot(no one at the wheel) can't see whats in front of you. Lot of crap in the water, garbage and I call it sea weed.7 color fires and ripped out at least 100 yds of line before breaking off. another spoon lost to Neptune. 2 drive bys, 3 missed fish , one in the box at this point, kind of discouraging to say the least. Headed South and the girls decided they have to use the facilities. I told them we would run in and try out front of the harbor, couldn't be any worse then what we did . Back out on the water get poles set and 7 color fires , king in the box. couple of minutes later , down riggers fires 20 down 35 back. Drag set too tight and lost it. Make sure that the drag is set loose enough but none of the riggers fires the rest of the trip. 7 color fires again then 5 color , 2 more kings in the box. made a turn at South Shore and headed north . 5 color fires and its time again to hand off to the girls . by the time one of them get set I already have the fish in. Ok next fish is yours Sarah all your , not 5 minutes later 5 color fires on the 10' 6" pole. (these really work great for the out side rods) after a lot of coaching Sarah has her first fish ever , nice 7lb king. to round up the day , 5 color fires right after we get done with Sarah's fish. This one really had some shoulders on it. Nice brown had to be 15lbs. Ended up the day going 6 for 10 , could have been better but novice drives and big swells make for landing fish a little difficult. Sarah Awesome job on your first fish. Tight Lines Jim
  18. Great Job Josh , are you bleeding the fish? looks like the throat was cut on some?
  19. The boat was helping you out by stalling , must be possessed , JK ,we all have those type of days on the water. Tight Lines Jim
  20. Awesome Jog on the Launcher, powder coating was the way to go on that , they really look sweet. great job. What kind of draw do the LED spots have?
  21. nice hall on the fish , awesome colors on that rainbow.
  22. Been a while since I posted a report . Lots of cold water just north of Milwaukee so that is where we went. I got to take out my wife Janice tonight , went 5 for 5 with one drive by. Started setting lines , put 1 7 color out and grabbed the dipsey rod to set it out and pow the 7 color starts screaming , said to Jan this ones yours, not only did she pick up a real nice 14 lb king but also found out what popeye arms are. Reset the 7 color put out the dipsey that I started on, let the line out on the other 7 color and before I could get the board on the same rod as before fires again. another nice king for me about 13 lbs. Managed to get both 7 colors set and 2 dipseys now. and Jan says shes tired of driving already . So I say let me finish putting out this rigger and I 'll drive for a while , no sooner do I get the rigger set and sit down and take the wheel the rigger fires ,Small king maybe five lbs . Can't seem to get the complete spread in the water today, well I did finally , not 5 minutes later rigger fires , grab it and nothing but air, reset and get to relax for a while. I had told Jan that we would keep it a short night since she has to work ing the morning, so we turned south and headed back, Watching the port 7 color it was acting funny, not pulling out drag but weird so I decided to bring it in to see if something fouled it , sure enough something fouled it alright a 10lb king. I reset set again and told Jan that we would pull lines in 5. 6 lines out I started with the hot rod , pulled that one first, moved to the other 7 color we had out and while pulling it in a king grabbed it. hand off the pole to Jan and pull in the two riggers to have room for this one it seemed large , and I was pulling rods anyhow. Another nice king for the box 10lbs. Boxed 5 fish in just under an hour and 15 mins. Lures that worked : Blue dolphin x3 7 color blue dolphin rigger set 50 back 50 down. Mixed veggies 7 color No hits on dipseys , bite has really gone to spoons. One Lamprey not swimming anymore either.
