  1. Hey, I thought you guys would like that pic of that girl who got her first turkey. That was the best turkey pic I've seen this year but it was hard to look at the turkey. I didn't mean that for the contest either, that was meant for your viewing pleasure, sorry
  2. Congratulations Rich! That's a nice bird.
  3. I never expected this. I was down to downtown Benton Harbor today whackin some coho's on Lk Michigan. While we were prepping the boat at dawn at the launch, we can here this hot gobbler going off repeatedly behind and east of Tackle Haven. He was to far away to pin point his roost but there sure aint a lot of country in that neck of the city.
  4. The coho's are still going at St Joe. Not hot but a nice steady pick today. Sure was nice to get back on the big water. We started about 8:00AM and trolled south and never turned again. We fished till 11:00 and got our limit of 12 coho's, threw 2 back pulling lines and landed one nice king about 14lbs. We also lost another nice one. The king came on a orange/red spoon taped by my buddy flat lined behind a board. That spoon hit some coho's too. They also liked chrome/blk thin fins, waukegon rigs and DW SS fireball off the boards and on hi slide divers out 15 and 20. J-9 orange and gold jointed raps took a few too on a half core and 2 color. Good luck!
  5. A marine surveyor is a specialist who will check the overall condition of your boat and rate it. Area's of critical importance in a survey are the stringers, stern and overall structural integrity of the haul. They will check moisture content in these areas. It will cost a few hundred for a survey. It is a good idea to get a survey before you buy a large costly used great lakes boat. If they have been slipped in the water for many years, there can be a risk for rot in the haul. Water can penetrate from leaks or cracked gel coat. Having this done prior to purchase can help you avoid buying a worn out boat. Hope it all goes well for you. Maybe someone here can recommend a good surveyor. I can't since I haven't been in the boat market for a long time. If you don't get a recommendation here, check with marina's around the great lakes or maybe the yellow pages in port cities. Not all surveyors are equal, a recommendation is best.
  6. Neat video! If you speak with the blueberry farmer, you should also discuss fall hunting his land and offer to shoot a hen. That will help cut his flocks. Sounds like it could be a good deal for you and him.
  7. Slow for us on the beach, took the girls and we fished there from noon to 4:00 and got one brown. They had fun so that was all that mattered. Had some buds on the pier and they got one brown, very slow there too. Only a couple caught on the pier all morning for a bunch a guys. Looking forward to splasing my boat but the night time temps lately are going to make me wait a least another week.
  8. I'll be fishing there tomorrow with my two girls. Planning to start fishing off the beach and mybe hit the pier if that don't go. It's going to be a spring break field trip with dad. Hope the fishing lasts more than an hour or two but I'm not counting on it. If they can both catch one coho, it would make my day. Probably go to deer forest in Coloma when we are done and maybe hit Binder Park Zoo if time permits. Hopefully it won't because we spent so much time on the beach..... but I doubt it. If you take a pass in close and see a goon and two cuties, that's us. I doubt we will get there very early, probably mid to late morning.
  9. It got ripped off the roof it was mounted on during a storm. Here is a link to another one, kind of cool, you can control the is one: http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/webcam/harbor.php
  10. in the southwest was very good this weekend. 3 of us yesterday got 15. 9 coho, 1 brown, 2 steelhead, 3 whitefish. Today, 4 of us got 19. 12 coho and 7 browns. I'm tired, sun burnt from yesterday, burned out from no sleep with my belly's full and I've got the biggest smile on my face from this weekend;) Time to sip a cold one and crash:D Get out and get some! Good luck!
  11. No rush for me, usually around April 15. I've got an I/O. If I had an outboard, I might start sooner. I've never felt big lake fishing was very consistent in early April, mostly hit or miss and lots of crap weather to deal with too.

  13. A buddy was out on St Joe pier and skunked last Saturday. A few other guys there too but nobody caught anything when he was there.
  14. It was 33 when we started, peaked at 35 mid afternoon. They will move in when it's cold, just don't typically cross fish ladders or start spawning until it get to the 40's. The front part of the run is the best for biters. Most people feel April is the month to steelhead, I prefer the front end of the run happening now through March. Once they start spawning, they are more visable on the gravel but don't bite as well and I'm done. Keep in mind I fish the SW, it is a bit later in the northern part of the state.
  15. With the crowds that come out this time of year, glad to share the location details by PM to members. Not into helping lurkers who don't contribute here. Ned, PM sent.
  16. I got mine, you can check if you got your here: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10363---,00.html
  17. Thanks, we are rigging with a main line to a 3 way swivel, then a short dropper to some split shot and a 3 ft leader to a single number 4 or 6 egg hook. With using split slot for weights, it's easy to add or take some off to adjust your drift.
  18. What a day, the winds calmed down and the sun was shining. Great day on the river. My buddy Steve boated the first two. This buck has been in for a while but he put up an awesome fight. Can you say spawn supply replenished!!! I finally put one in the boat after a couple hours. My turn to land a big hen! Steve get's his 3rd steelie. Another big fish! Nice to not have to clean ice off the rod guides all day. We were drifting spawn bags on the bottom. Another boat had been working this hole for a while and left. We dropped in for a couple quick drifts and bam, I get my third too. What a way to end the day and start off March! I love this month:D
  19. Today!!! The steelies were really snapping in the river. It's time!
  20. This should be good for our sport, here is their website: http://www.gl2s.com/
