  1. I lurk most of the time as I don't fish the big ponds anymore but love reading about them still. Living in Washington State I fish The Columbia River and some times in the salt. I have found that the people here just love to share and have the fun doing it. WFFF Steve
  2. I did it one summer and loved it. I couldn't put a price on what I learned. This year I was fishing the salt in Washington state with a new friend and taught his some downrigger tricks that he would of never tried or would of never know with out me showing him. WFFF
  3. here on The Columbia River it happens all to often. I've lost 6 fish to seals-sealions and two Kwikfish that they swam into going after a hooked fish. They will spool a Abu 7000 in a hart beat.
  4. Stainlesssssssssssss? I like stainless. I used 3/8 aluminum rod from Lowes, base is 1 1/4 square tube
  5. Replacing the tip is easy. You can heat the tiptop with a lighter and it will pull right off. Do not over heat the tip. Most tackle shops have replacement and glue it back on with 5 min Epoxy and your good to go. If you can't find a tip PM me.
  6. Family told me they aren't going to hold my bulk spools to fill all my trolling reels. So I replaced them with a holder that I made. WFFF
  7. I've been lucky and live close to a reel repair shop and they have the screws for Penn reels. Ollie Damons www.olliedamons.com they do mail orders
  8. Happy Thanksgiving from the Wet Coast
  9. I was looking at the Diawa 47 lc and plan to use in salt water from time to time and there is a grease port that is open to the spool shaft and was woundering if any one uses this reel and puts it through it's paces. It will mostly used in fresh water but concerned about the open shaft but it's a great price for a line counter. Steve
  10. What I do is take the line off every reel then clean the out side of it. I remove the side plate then spool and worm gear. If it's bad I tear the whole reel down but if it's not I grease the gears and oil bearings and spool shaft and worm gear parts. I use Hot Sauce grease and oil on all of my reels casting spinning and trolling. I hate this part as I always find worn parts and sometimes it takes weeks to get them. Also remember if you take pict's of the reel it's easyer to put back together. WFFF
  11. It was around 12lbs. I love casting spinners for silvers they crush them. I've been called a Cardinal Nut, I have around 20 but have to fine some spools soon. Steve
  12. Kalama River in Washington state is getting a push of fresh silvers. took this one on a mepps spinner
  13. There is a plastic oil jet type fitting that wears out on the T8 so It might be the same problem. I was told that a brass carb jet can be used to fix if it not burned out . WFFF
  14. here is a site that shows the fish going over Bonniville Dam and fish counts http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/b/fishcam.asp
  15. I was night fishing for steelhead on the Lewis River here in Washington and was on hook setting lines when I could hear a boat coming fast(river jetboats). I had my lights on and started to shine the mag light and the guy yelled at me that I messed up his night vision. He was on plain 30 mph + with out nav light and didn't see him untill he was only 100' away. Jetboats tend to slide through turns and I was on a outside bend.
  16. Way to go. I sure like seeing Waukegan fish. Old home waters. WFFF
  17. I tried it last fall and found anything lower than 30' and a speed of 2.0 was all I could take. For the shaking I clipped the cam. cord to the d/r cable and took it out for the most part. Bringing it back up was a two man job with manual riggers. Steve
  18. Thanks. I'm from Waukegan but moved and found where I'm going to finish my days.Salmon Steelhead sturgeon walleye bass ten min from my house on the Columbia River. I miss the Big Pond and friends but here better.
  19. Hey from the West Coast. Summer steel is starting to get hot. I fish The Columbia, Kalama, Cowlitz and Lewis north/east fork and other PNW spots. WFFF
