  1. I have been having the same problem with my older Big Jons. The 2 outside riggers are 10 to 20 feet off compared to the center riggers.I have put new springs and counters on and still not working right.
  2. I just looked at the fish cam at the power plant at the SOO and there is a lot of Atlantics there.
  3. Good job. Adam I am suppose to go there on the 1st and 2nd I hope we can get into the salmon. It has been a long time coming.
  4. Well I have been up to Detour on a memorial day weekend and all we caught was kings. I have started fishing Presque Ise and Rogers City in the middle of June before but that was back a few years when the salmon were more plentiful. Boltman, there is salmon starting to show up at Charlevoix. I was there on Sun. and I saw one boat get 4 kings but all we managed was 4 greasers. We just couldn't find the salmon.
  5. But what about the northern ports that have salmon there early. How do you explain that.
  6. I just read the DNR fishing report and it said that there was a coho caught at Glen Arbor so they say it means the salmon are moving north. But I think the salmon don't move as far as some think and that some don't move north at all They are already there just us fishermen can't find them. My reasoning is that I can sometimes catch chinooks at Detour and St.Ignce at the end of May when suface waters are only in the low 50's. Also when the salmon fishing was in its prime on Lake Huron we would start fishing Presque Isle and Rogers City in the middle of June. But there is another thing that happens. The salmon don't usually get to Charlevoix until the middle of July but we don't get great fishing until Aug. Why do you think this is? What is your opinion?
  7. Welcome. I am new on here also. The guys on hear are real nice.
  8. Thanks guys. I think I will like here.I posted some photos of my work in the miscellaneous section in the gallery.
  9. Hi, I just stumbled onto this site; and it is a great one. My name is Rick and I would like to tell you a little about myself. My parents say I have been fishing since I was 2 years old. Which was for bluegills and other small fish. As I got older I started fishing with my Grandpa for perch on a little inland lake and we would just catch a lot of perch every time we went out. Also at this age my dad would take my bothers and me gill and bass fishing in the summer and perch and gill fishing through the ice. When I was old enough to drive I would go bass and pike fishing every chance I could. Then I started getting into river fishing for steelhead and then surf fishing for them. I gradually stopped bass fishing and started walleye fishing. Now I walleye fish during the week and salmon fish on the weekends. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life and then about 4 years ago I tried doing fish taxidermy and I took to it like a fish in water:no: Everyone I know couldn't believe how fast I learned how to do it.I ended up calling my business Fish Whisperer Taxidermy because that is what my mom named our salmon boat a few years prior. All I do is fish and I can get fish done really quick. My avatar is one of the mounts I have done. Everyone has been great on here.
  10. I just heard that there was a bunch of salmon caught right by the peirheads yesterday.
  11. Well I probably won't be going back to the bay this year. The salmon should be up this far north. So we will be starting to go after them.
  12. I tried a Cabelas camera on the downrigger and the blow back was bad. The cable vibrated so bad that the camera was shaking so bad that I couldn't see anything.
  13. I did talk to a couple guys and they didn't do very well either. One said he fished on Sat. and got a 2 man limit and then fished yesterday by himself and only got one.
  14. The walleye fishing was horrible on Sun. Only managed 3 walleye and 5 sheephead in 9 hours of fishing. We started in 30 fow then moved out 6 miles from the launch and then moved into 22 fow and that is were we had the most action. The walleyes cam on harresses in white blade red beads, and blueberry muffin blade purple and blue beads. That sheep is going to taste so good.
  15. Thanks for the info. We have to come tomorrow on account of, the friends going with me have to work on Mon.Do you think we could get some fish off of downriggers?
  16. Do you have any pointers.I am going to Au Gres tomorrow morning. Probably won't get there until 9 or 10. I have never fished there before.Coming down from Gaylord.
  17. My best day in and day out is the metallic purple :no:with a black ring with a white and maroon spin doctor and a bloody nose fly.
  18. I was wondering how to tell how much line to let out while using 1 and 2 pound weights to get to a certain depth using 30 pound mono.I am wanting to try and fish really deep this summer with one rod. I thought I would just use one of my dipsy rods. Because my riggers can't handle 20 pound cannon balls.I read about fishing deep in GL Angler mag. and thought it would work where I fish because the salmon seem to disappear at the end of July through the middle of August. So I think they are probably there just hugging bottom.
  19. Are you talking about the torpedo weights that were just advertised in GLA Mag. These connect direct to your line between the lure and rod. Or is there another kind of torpedo weight that is for the downrigger?
  20. Lets see some pictures of your catch.I was there 2 weeks ago on a Tues. in a 22 foot starcraft islander. Were you the guy I talked to when we headed out and you were coming in to the dock.
