  1. Maybe your boat is repelling fish. Check up www.lurecharge.com I've been using info from the owner to see if my boat is repelling fish. He is a very nice guy. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. I just started using one. When you clip the line to the or16 on the back of the board put a little slack between it and the Sam's. As of right now they are working. But I think it's a pain the wrap the line around the rubber nipple. I have used it for walleye mostly and using copper once with it. 3. Im trying to repurpose a couple rods I already have. I want to get 2 new set ups. I'm wanting to do a 50ft and a 150ft of wire. So can I go 50ft copper with 20# mono backing on a downrigger rod and 150ft copper with 30# powerpro on my 10 color leadcore rod? Or do I do weighted steel with the same set up as copper? What knots are best for the weighted steel? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  4. Salmon fishing is not a,really poor man's sport. It can get expensive in a hurry. We were all in you shoes at some point. If your not going to fish a lot on the great lakes manual riggers are fine. But when you get into fish they are a pain. The tackle you need will depend on what your going to fish for and out of what port. I suggest going to a tackle store at the port your going to fish. And talk to them about what is good in that area. It is going to be overwhelming at first. Just don't go to overboard on equipment in case it's not for you. You will want some spoons, and a few flashers/rotator and flies. I suggest 8"spindoctors for the trolling flies and generally a 24"leader for the fly with an 8" flasher/rotator. You will need cannonballs and releases for your downriggers. You can run 2 rods off of each rigger if you want. You use a stacker release for that. At most ports you rarely have to travel more than a few miles to catch fish. Sometimes they are in close. If your going all out I would get a speed/temp probe like a depth raider or fish hawk. If you can't afford that get a good thermometer and you would need to find the temperature break/thermocline. But the fish might not always be in that area. I always fish in,above and below it. And let the fish tell me where to fish. You will need downrigger rods and level wind reels. You can get a couple diver rods and reels. Just make sure the rod holders are strong. 9. Why are you not using the Willis knot for leadcore to fluorocarbon? I ended up using the fg knot for braid to fluorocarbon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  10. Well I think I got pretty good at tying the modifide FG-knot. I pulled just about as hard as I could on the lines with no slippage. But it sure does take a long tim to tie. Plus I'm still not sure if I am finishing the knot right. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. This is the video I watched. Maybe I just don't have good dexterity. I think the bump in the knot happened when I did a wrap and the fluorocarbon didn't pull straight right away and might have caused a kink or bend. Maybe I need to keep the fluorocarbon tight also. 12. It's a big not to go through the guides. And I'm afraid the braid will slip. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  18. I put powerpro on a couple of my rigger rods and I'm going to put a fluorocarbon leader on. I was told to put a 3ft piece of leadcore in between the two. Would you recommend a better way? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  19. Where can I get whole frozen herring for meat rigs? Gltsupplies has them but are pricey. I'm looking for blue label. I want to cut my own. It's a lot cheaper than pre cut strips. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  21. That only works if the reels are the same. So where do I put the powerpro numbers and the backing numbers. Or doesn't it matter. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  22. Why didnt I think of that. Duh. Thanks. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  23. So do I put the dia. and length of the powerpro ande the first line section then the backing to see how much back I would need to have? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  24. Thanks. I didn't look all the way down the page. I already have mono on my reels and need to figure out how much to leave on. I think I'm going to have to take it all off first. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
