  1. I had that occure last fall and boat was only 5oft away! We sounded horn yelled and they just waves then fliped us off! I needed new line anyway so when they set off my drag i let my entire spool empty ,over 300 yards hopfully it all went around his prop!!!I moved over 75 yards at least but they just followed us! I lost a board and a spoon but Imshure his reair bill was at least a grand!!!
  2. I also have the solara model about $1oo. and a galaxy antenna and I can hear conversations from Ludington to muskegion on a clear day occasionaly!!!If you have bench seats I would suggest an 8ft antenna mountd on seat top with a ratchet mount tight agianst gunwall. You can use the rubber mounts for stern light to secure antenna tightly so its out of the way and secure ,they are cheap and work great, thats what I did on my lil 14ft. I strongly suggest the rubber light holders to secure antenna as I didnt do this at first and when getting into boat it was getting steped or kicked alot and Not something im willing to chance my life on being damaged. I have the solara also in my 19ft starcraft holiday mounted high and forward of windshield and as I mentioned i get great reception with a 1o ft galaxy antenna.
  3. I have both and to be totally honest, there isnt as much deference as you might think. I like my sharks 1o lb and they dont have as much blowback but not enoughf to justify the extra set of weights cost. I generaly only run my sharks and they are less current sensative.as far as storage I use an s hook half way down my big jon boom offset and attached with 2 hose clamps,it keeps it in place.
  4. I have a 7ft beam and run riggers out side with 4 ft booms and core down chute with great success but!!! it must be pulled if another pole goes off or you will spend the next 20 min untangeling a bird nest from hell! But it is my hottest setup but 75% of my fishing is in the fall and I fish the channel alot or outside pier heads so i dont have over 50ft out with so many other boats out.Like was mentioned before theres a time and place for it, but you still have to be carefull, but it can be very, very productive!
  5. wonder bread was my hot lure last yeat, others caught fish but wonder bread was always consistant and in in my spread wether on rigger or core was hottest in fall on 6-8 colores in 20-30ft of water right on bottom...????
  6. Coastlock only style for me , im not shure what brand they are I get them at Captian Chucks in Ludington they are sold loose not in a pkg? Been using them going on 4 yrs now and have had only a few break when changinging out spoons but that will happen to any wire bent enoughf. Cant rember the size but I think they are just under $2 each..
  7. good to hear inshurance company is stepping up! hope all goes smooth and read all fine print b/4 you sign anything . best of wishes....
  8. sorry to hear about the fire.. As far as cleaning the lures im a big fan of Mean Grean cleaners,as far as smell goes ,I too would be concerned ,but, I watched a charter captian last year use super glue to hold down spoon tape that was lifting off.He lit a smoke after smoked half of it and threw lure back in water and he had another fish on before he could finish that smoke! And that spoon was hot all morning???? I wouldnt have believed it had I not saw for myself. Hope all workes out for you and your family
  9. Congradulations on the new boat! I have a 19ft starcraft and its a perfect size for my uses.Usually just 2 on board and lots of room to fish in back, but occasionally i have up to 8 on board and still room to move around. The greatest thing about this size is it can go about anywhere, river,Lake Michigan, P.M. river with kicker and any small lake 1 1/2 foot deep!!! Mine serves all my fishing needs , Yes I want bigger but no payments and I can afford to run mine anytime.I do have a 85 hp johnson and a 9.8 kicker, not a beauty queen but a great multipurpios fishing boat for me and the family and occasionally we pull kids on tubes with it . Hope you like your purchase, and keep your prop wet!!
  10. I use Coastlock swivels only. After loosing entire rigs at $15 or more I dont trust any other swivels as salmon fight hard any weak link in line will break and I have saw to many swivels fail
  11. I picked up a pair of big dadys at gr.sports show. I wanted the brothers but big dadys were same price of $52 out the door.I am not impressed with the push pin release ,but after reading on here i will replace it before it hits water. But I was very surprised how hard they were to find, only one booth had them and they were in back row and at foot height, not advertised very well or displayed good.My wife drives boat alot and ,well, the boat turns alot!lol I wanted to try these as the wide spread hopefully will allow me to spend less time untangeling lines and enjoying fishing..
  12. At the g.rapids sports show I found a booth from"madsdocks.com" they make poor mans pole holders. They are very basic but their 3 pole rod tree costs $37!!! All aluminum but as I said no frills and not polished.I wanted to get a set but opted for 2 sets of z-boards instead.
  13. I would have to say my wife. Now hang on give me a chance to explain!!!!lol When I need her to drive (she hates driving while trolling) she kept telling me it took me to long to set up manual riggers, so I told her if we had electric riggers and it would take me 1/4 of the time . Guess what I got for X-Mas .........2 electric big jon captian packs! When my 1995 lowerance gps/fishfinder acts up she gets frusterated , guess what I got for my bithday last year?...... A lowerance hds5!!!!!Shure glad she didnt didnt know I loosened mounting bolt so it flopped around the transducer!!!lol Ya Im spoiled but let me tell you so is she!!!!! So my wifes my most valubale possesion on board my boat, as long as improvements are (her idea) I stay out of the dog house!!!!!
  14. The Pier Marquette opened up today,I have the 14ft row boat ready to go.Mounting motor tonight and getting a few poles ready over some beers and will be on water around noon tomorrow.Big boat wont be in lake Mich. till ice thaws around boat launch could be as early as this weekend if weather permitts.
  15. There is 2 Gander Mountians in Grand Rapids area one on east 28th street and other in Grandville,Dicks Sporting Goods in Grandville mall ,AL and Bobs on south division rd.,There is also a store in Jenison(I forgot its name)..Or you can go to Hummingbirds web site and find dealers in area..Possibly if you dont mind drive the is a Bass Pro Shop 1 1/2 south of G.R. on I-94 in Portage Indiana... Hope this helps.....
  16. I see you are in Holland. Give Vans Sportcenter a call they are located on alpine 1/2 block south of Ann street in GrandRapids. I have had alot of dealings with them and they are great, and have a large supply of new and used motors for sale. They stand behind everything they sell 110%.
  17. I use a 2 gun hard case to transport my rods, I can get 8 poles in it and have one ready for every presentation. The case is long but only about 6inches wide and never agian will I break another pole, and I keep plieres and a small jig box under liner. It works great for me as I dont leave anything in truck anymore and its all safe and secure .
  18. I agree with Line Dancing.Grandville is clean, safe, and still close to g.r. There are motels at 28th and division avenue but how clean and safe they are I cant commint as I moved from that area 6yrs ago. From Grandville to show is 15 min drive 196 east to 131 south to second exit then maybe 4 city blocks and you are there.I dont rember the name of the motel but its behind the YMCA and its very nice and reasonablely rates I have stayed a few times on new years highly recommend them.
  19. I second that! was my best spoon all season, but mine is a Moonshine, glow wonderbread. I always leave it on my leadcore running the troughf 5 to 10 colors out always my best pole doesnt matter if im in 150 ft or 50ft of water or in channel. In November I troll P. m. Lake for steelhead and its great and have caught several Pike on it also.I did add (earings) to mine 1 crome and 1 red from another lure and it never fails me
  20. I hadnt heard of the drift bags off bow...As for my kicker im limited on funds and fish out of a 69 starcraft holiday.. Kicker cost me $4oo ,71 mercury 11o model. Yes its old but fish dont care how old your boat is ..lol I cant give any advice for the bigger boats , but im shure fellow members will lead you in right direction.
  21. I have a 19 ft boat aluminum ,we were fishing about 3 miles out and engine stalled and flooded. There were 3 to 5 ft waves this day,my boat sets high in the water but I was getting nervous as boat turned side ways to waves. It took about 15 min to get motor running and It was my worst exerience on big water. I immediatly added a 9.9 kicker and was rewarded immediatly. Trolling used to cost me about $35. now its only about $1o , and I have another motor to rely on in case of breakdown.Im so glad Wife wasnt with me when motor flooded as I would never have gotten her out agian! The money I save in gas allowed me to buy more gear and 4 more rods and afford to fish more often.
  22. I havent been out much this year, but the few times i have been it was slow. According to Ludington daily news its slow but getting better every day. I have a tournement on thursday ill let you know friday.
  23. Hamlin now has 8 inches on it and P.M. lake is 6-8 inches depends on where you go. Good Luck and have a safe season
  24. I have a 69 starcraft holiday and had simular problems. With the floor already out we put a 5lb hammer tight on lower hull while we taped from inside, worked on most but had a 3 inch area that had a slow seep to it. I picked up Water Weld at auto parts store and applied it to inside seam and never has it leaked any water. WaterWeld is a putty with a hardener in center you roll amount needed in hand till you feel it get warm then apply it as needed. The great thing about this stuf is it can be applied underwater or inside boat even if aluminum is wet it cures in 15 min and dries hard as steel. I also have a 14 foot rowboat we bought this summer that someone had done a bad repair below water line, I removed old caulking and applied Waterweld from inside and outside and a small amount of water on finger to smooth it as it was setting up and it cant even been seen up close after we painted boat.I keep an emergency container in boat just in case its ever needed out on the water. Cost is about $5.00 cant get any better than than that.
