  1. They were all the standard size. had a magnum out on a dipsy and 8 colors of core for a bit but nothing ever touched them.
  2. Holy crap! Sounds like you were pretty busy!!! Awesome Job!
  3. Got a late start this morning and set lines around 60 fow on an east troll. Water was like glass, the sun was shining, and the fish gods finally smiled on us after 5 skunks in a row! We ended the day 7 for 10 with one "look ma, no hands" release at the back of the boat. We ran one dipsy 100 back, one 8 color core down the chute and two riggers. Only riggers took hits today. Anywhere between 80 and 120 fow we took fish. We picked them up on a north, south, east and west troll. Big fish went around 12lbs. Rigger at 40 with blue green dolphin spoon took 5 hits Rigger at 45 with dreamweaver green alwife spoon took 4 hits Free slider on a rigger parked at 60 with mixed veggies went once.
  4. Thanks guys, it gives me some solace in the fact that the fishing doesn't usually pick up for another few weeks. At least the walleye have been somewhat cooperating with me!
  5. Was out from 1600 hrs to 2000 hrs. Not a bump all night, one other boat reported the same on the radio. This makes 4 skunks in a row for us with not even a fish hooked in all the trips. We've tried slowing our troll with buckets and speeding up. We're running 2-4 color cores, dipsy w/flasher fly, downriggers and high lines...is there any tips that anyone could offer up. Needless to say getting a little frustrated and have zero confidence. Thanks!
  6. What do you guys choose to terminate your line with? We use #7 coastlock swivels to attach spoons and plugs. It has seemed to start chipping paint and finish off some of our spoons. And this is only after one year of casual fishing. I was just wondering if anyone uses anything else and how it works for ya?
  7. Went to a yard sale and picked up some brand new fishing stuff, Got two diawa dipsy rods, one heartland and one firewolf and a magda pro 30dx all for $63 dollars. Everything still had all the tags on it and were brand new. The guy had probably 30 other various bass fishing and walleye fishing rods for sale too, even a few Steelhead rods. The guy said he was a distributor to the bait shops in the area and was selling all the samples he had. Was it worth it?
  8. So does this mean that on overcast days fish are actively feeding moreso than when the sun is shining? Or is it a different type of light when it is sun up or sun down?
  9. So I took a walk out on the south arm of the Muskegon pier to see how the fishing was going this morning. I must have walked this pier 100 times in my life and for the first time I noticed a small plaque where the arm bends. It says a quarter mile from this plaque is Lake Michigan's first articficial fishing reef. Just wondering if anyone has anymore information on it since I am having some trouble finding info anywhere else. Does it attract fish like it was supposed to? Or was it a dud? Does anyone have the coordinates for the reef? If so would you pm them to me? I would like to check it out some time.
  10. Herring oil? and how would i go about getting ahold of something like that?
  11. Thanks for all the input. What's a common attractant for salmon?
  12. Well fished a WSP this morning from 0500-1000 hrs. I was the only one out there for about an hour and a half. Did not have a bump all morning. Infact there was only one fish caught on the whole pier while I was there. Pretty darn slow...
  13. So I was at the store the other day checkin out some salmon fishin' baits and I noticed the salmon bodies. I picked one up just to try it out. I haven't read too many reports that included fish being caught on them. Is it because no one uses them? Or just that they don't catch too many fish?
  14. So we'll be headed up to Drummond the last week in April for our annual perch slaying trip and wondering if there are any big lake fish to be had at that time anywhere around the island? We bring the boat up there every year but hardly ever use it because the perch are right at the dock, and it would be a nice change of pace for one day. Thanks!
  15. 6lb Steelie taken out of Muskegon on 09.04.2009
  16. 5lb 10oz Lake Trout 07-13-2009 Out of Muskegon
  17. Well it's yet another leadcore question for the forum. I just bought 100 yards of leadcore and am planning on running a 7 color and a 3 color off a planer mast. My question is in regards to the 3 color. When I put the 3 color off the board do I set the release right when the backing starts? Or should I have 100' or whatever of backing out before I set the release?
  18. Great Job! makes me want to make a trip up to Manistee in the next few weeks!
  19. Thanks so much for the info guys! Can't wait to get out on the water!
  20. So this will be the first year of my father and me trying our hand at trolling for Browns. My question is, when you are in the real shallow water will our outboard motor spook the fish? Should we get a trolling motor? We will be using a planer mast so we'll be able to spread it all out. Thanks!
  21. Well I was out last night and we trolled from 100 fow into the harbor and only hooked up with one small king in 50 fow just after dark. When we got close there were lots of boats just in front of the arms. But late last week we killed the steel out in 180 fow, so there is something to think about also....
  22. well that last post was me, but dad was logged in. Now I can't figure out how to delete the darn thing!
  23. When you're doing the combat fishing, how far back do you run your baits off the 'ball so as to not get tangled with everyone else?
