  1. Well sounds like I may go with the church boards then. It really suprised me because seems I remember everyone like the offshores over the churches. but I will believe you guys that I can run a fulll core on it. I take it if I run clean lures behind those boards this spring im going to have to move the weight in the opposite direction? Thanks for all the imput guys! Cant wait to get out fishing!
  2. Looking for a good quality lead core setup. I know some of you guys got to have some setups that you dont use anymore since copper is now hot!!! Let me know what you have. Id be interested in a rod/reel combo or just a reel loaded with some lead core, or a reel that will work for a full core. Thanks!!!
  3. If I get the copper line do I need a specialized rod with roller guides? Trying to do this on a budget. Most likely will get an okuma reel since that what we have on all our other rods and have served us well. Maybe Ill pickup a set of offshores. Will i need to get releases with the offshores? or are they rigged?
  4. Should I be setting the drag just tight enough not to creep out at on the boards? What kind of rod/reel setups do you guys run for your full cores?
  5. Alright guys, I need some help. Been thinking more about our setup for the upcoming year. We usually run 2 rigger, 2 dipseys and 2 core. We need serious help with our core setups because we have a 2 color and an 8 color. Thinking about purchasing another setup for a full core. Problem last year was we got some brother sized z boards for our core and it seems the board cant even handle the 8 color with the releases that come with it. Just pops right off after it gets set or will not release at all. Also doesnt track real well with the 8 color on it. Ive tried to sort out what i need to do to change the releases but I just dont get it. Id still like the board to release when a fish hits since Im not really good at reading the board when there is a fish on. What releases do I need? Do you have a link to it? Possibly getting another set of planers this year for spring fishing flat lines, any suggestions?? Thanks dudes! Andrew
  6. Finally got back out on the water for probably the second time since mid-June. Based on reports we weren't expecting much. Set up in 82fow and trolled west. 94fow a rigger at 60 down with a wonderbread j plug pops, thought it was a laker cuz it was like cranking in a boot but we were pleasently surprised to find an 8.5lb steelhead. Made a circle back around and headed west again, hooked up with a small fish, which was shaped like a football brown but had a black mouth like a king. I may post a pic later to confirm with you guys that it was a king. After that we boated three lakers on blue dolphin spoons and a dipsey with a mtn dew spinny and fly in the same area. Next came an 11lb 4 yr old king loaded with eggs on the wonderbread. Last fish was a 6lb king on the same dipsey from earlier. Ended the night 7 for 7. Was a great night on the water! All fish were between 90fow and 110fow.
  7. Well that makes me feel a little bit better. We fish outta an 18 footer so if there are any waves over two foot there's a good chance they will hit the water
  8. So I was wondering, when running a dipsey you want it to be as close got the water as possible in the holder. My question is, will it cause a problem in waves if the rod tip hits the water will it be a problem. I'm always hesitant to run them when it's bumpy.
  9. have you guys that fish muskegon caught many Skams?? this was my first one and it was quite the fighter, even on a 2 color he was peeling drag and jumping out of the water before we even got to the rod.
  10. Pulled back the throttle at 75fow and started setting lines on a west troll at around 6:30, put out the two cores then started on the riggers. Once I got the first one set it popped almost right away and we boated a 5lb king that hit a mag happee meal 62 down. Next fish was an 8lb king around 90 fow that hit a vintage pro king spoon that is yellow and orange 64 down on a rigger. Next fish was a shaker that didnt even pop the release on the downrigger, hit the pro king spoon. Next fish was a 7lb king that took a mag flounder pounder down 74 on a rigger. We trolled around the nets in around 120 fow and picked up two more fish, one was a 5lb steelhead that hit a two color that was pulling an old slammer spoon that was orange and white. I believe it was a skamania steelhead since is had loose eggs in it, looked to be ready to spawn. Also picked up a laker somewhere in there around 130fow 94 down on a rigger. Ended the morning 7 for 7!
  11. When fishing yesterday we have found a pretty easy way to get them off. Just group the fleas together on the line and make a loop (with the fleas at the bottom) with the line then hold the fleas with your hand and pull both sides of the loop and almost all the fleas come right off. Worked like a charm!
  12. Great job man. Gonna get out this mornin and will post a report
  13. its amazing what a night of good fishing does for your confidence!
  14. well I've rigged it up and I believe I have it the same way that the diagram shows on the website and it seems to me that there there is no way for the fish to trip it. The way the crimped metal is in the middle of the leader makes the flasher be pushed all the way back. In order for it to be tripped the flasher would have to somehow be pushed forward on the line and as far as I know is not going to happen...anyone else have any imput? I am just as confused as when I didn't know what the heck it was...haha
  15. I have not rigged it up yet, but it seems to me there is a good chance that the line that goes along it could get tangled or fouled up and would not run right...I guess I'll have to go catch a fish on it to see if an inline flasher really causes that much drag in the water...
  16. Well Adam, it makes me feel better that I am not the only one that is scratching my head. The only reasoning behind the plastic tab I can come up with is that it will pop out of the flasher if a fish hits and will create less drag when fighting a fish...But I still have no idea how to rig it to make it roatate! haha
  17. first one didnt work, lets see if this one does... the other side that you are unable to see looks mostly like a normal flasher with a barrel swivel with another ring attached that is just smaller than the bead that is pictured
  18. heres the plastic peice on the leader not inserted into the hole on the one side of the flasher.
  19. There is no name on the flasher at all. I'm working on the pic right now, just taking some time for my phone to send it to email so I can upload it. It came with a leader that has a barrel swivel on one side, some sort of snap swivel on the other. In the middle there is a piece of crimped on that stops a large bead in the middle of it.
  20. Hey guys, I bought a flasher at a yard sale for a buck, when I opened the package it looks to be rigged different than what ive seen before. Instead of a swivel on both sides, it has one swivel on the front and a hole that a plastic piece fits into. My question is, how do you rig it?! Thanks in advance for the reply...
  21. Got out for a few hours tonight after my dad got outta work. Set Lines around 5:30 at 68 fow. Trolled out to 130 fow with no luck. We start to turn around when the two color core board releases. I'm halfway sure what was on was a fish...or a boot. Did not feel one movement of the fish. But what ever it was came unbuttoned about 10 yards from the boat. Got to about 100 fow when we were talking about pulling lines when the 8 color core takes a rip. Small Steelhead taken on a black green and white northern king hologram spoon. Moved on to pulling in the dipsey when a rigger was bouncing 51 down. Boated a smaller king on the free slider with a green dolphin spoon. Left that rigger in the boat and decided to troll to 75 fow with just the one rigger in the water. We marked something on the graph and my dad says, "Looks like a fish may be following our bait." 10 seconds later were hooked up. Boated around a 6lb king on a standard size happee meal moonshine spoon. All in all I think we did pretty good at 3 for 4 considering the radio chatter didn't sound too promising.
  22. Got out around 6pm and only planned to fish til around 8:30. But in reality we fished til dark kuz it was hard to leave when rods just keep poppin. Pulled back the throttle at 70fow straight out. Got the first rigger down and not a minute went by and we were hooked up. Boated (I'm guessing, didnt have the scale) a nice 13-14lb king. On a Flintstone Blue Dolphin down 42. Then we motored around until about 7:30 with out another release. Then that changed. Took a rip on a dipsey 120 back on 2 with a green pro troll flasher and a siggs rig fly (some sort of glow green fly). About a minute into that fight a rigger goes off that was parked at 45 and we got a double on with only two of us in the boat. Both fish were boated and around 10lbs. The fish got smaller as it got later and all were taken between 70 and 80 fow. Ended up 8 for 11 with 1 shaker released. I may upload some pics once I get them onto the computer. We did get hooked up with a fish that acted pretty weird. Rigger just started bouncing so I grab it and it made a few head shakes, then just stayed right under the boat! Seemed like it was a hog but it came unglued pretty quickly. We run light action rigger rods so there wasn't really any horsing this fish. Do you guys ever have fish stay under the boat like that? Every fish we have caught always goes the other way, or at least starts to come to the surface behind the boat as we troll.
