  2. thats definitely on my places to visit list!
  3. there is a classifieds section. it is the last section in the forums page. the only requirement to post an ad is to be a supporting member of this website.
  4. thanks guys! Russ - that spoon is the Super Glow Hot Michigan Dolphin. You and Randy definitely had 'em dialed in better on sat then i could yesterday.
  5. fished 8:30am til about 1 pm. Started S.E. of the reef in 60 fow and trolled out over the hills. Didn't have a fish until we crossed the hills. Marked a lot of fish on and over the hills. Ended up with 4 fish, two nice kings, a nice coho, and a small brown. One on a captain valuim spin doctor/aqua fly, one on a green gator super slim, two on a hot michigan dolphin super slim. pics are pretty poor, drinking beer was a higher priority on a beautiful day off!
  6. Nice fish! I love fishing that school out there, they are so much fun. just hate burning the gas to get there.
  7. thats awesome jim, and russ! i'm sure that school of fish is related to the school that us racine guys and the kenosha guys have been fishing for the last couple of weeks. They are so much fun! it definetely makes the long run out and in worth it! on a nice day your boat would have no problem out there jim.
  8. i can't tell you an exact length. I usually try to stick with a three times the attractor rule. Once i have something working i duplicate it. If i have to replace a leader i find a way to match it exactly. Recently it is the width of by bait table! I will have to measure it tomorrow and let you know. this is based on my down speed of usually around 2.7mph on my depth raider.
  9. from my experience, you can not run it with out the "extra pieces." i learned the hard way. had some i had laying around for a while and tried to use them with braided line by themselves. the divers would not hold and slid down to my stoppers. use as directed certainly applies here.
  10. fly leads are like women, everyone has there own favorites! lead length really comes down to trolling speed. USUALLY, the faster the speed, the longer the lead.
  11. nice fish! i would love to see that video that green dot spin doctor is my new superhero after seeing what it can do this year! I have to get my hands on some of those midnight specials.
  12. roller rods are not needed. most guys just prefer to have bigger eyes so the large knots/swivels will pass through.
  13. I wish lake michigan would grow them that big regularly again!
  14. thanks guys! jim - this was the first day i didn't have to run +/-15 miles since July! It was a great change of pace! kj - this is the first year i have run UV stuff. I just never had any of it before. That UV tarheel fly has been great ever since i put it on. i have some Dreamweaver UV spoons that have also been good at times. Most of my UV spoons are regular sized and the fish down here have been loving the smaller spoons so they have not gotten much playing time. I'm sold on the theory of it though!
  15. they can't all be great days. Definitely keeps you grounded to have a day like that every once in a while. I know a lot of guys that did well for brew city fished north of milwaukee 40-100 fow by fox point. Of course that was a week ago and we have had lots of wind this week. good luck on the charter! who are you fishing with?
  16. was supposed to fish friday evening, but was way too rough! The same guys were coming back in the morning so we decided against killing ourselves. Fished 6am-12pm. The boys from Minnesota found the local marina drinking establishment to be too much fun to make it an early morning! The lake was pretty rough still and had decent reports from the day before so i stopped in 55fow instead of running 15 miles. Took a bit to get our first fish but once we did fishing was pretty steady. Worked N and S outside the reef. Really good action while the fog and cloud cover was around. Once the sun showed up, fishing gradually slowed to one fish a pass, then completely turned off by 11am. Ended 13-20ish, Super Slims are still hot on cores and downriggers! Green Gator on a 35 SWR was the hottest. A white e-chip with a Dreamweaver UV tarheel fly also was pretty hot fishing the bottom.
  17. from the "other side," out of racine. i do not think it is a typical season. lots of cold water, weird fish patterns, small bait fish, smaller fish in general. usually by august we have large schools of mature kings hanging around waiting to go in the river in fall. I have not seen this yet this year. at times we have had a few nice kings, but have not had the concentration of large fish yet. there is still lots of cold water and bait fish scattered every where. i'm sure the fish are just not holding in one location around racine. The biggest concentration of fish is out 15-20 miles but they are mostly rainbows and salmon that will not spawn this year.
  18. i second the "10 fish per boat" theory! simple math and also i think some one mentioned not chasing another persons program. two rules i always try to fish by
  19. you are going to get so many different opinions on this subject. you have to figure out what is the best buy for your budget. i think for the most part the common consensuses is that the 30 series or similar is good for downriggers, dipsys, and high boards and the 45 or 55 is good for cores and coppers. I personally like the 55's for cores and coppers because i run 45lb mono for backing and need the larger capacity.
  20. Fished Thursday 3pm to 6pm. Caught 9 and missed a crap ton more. Honestly, as my frustration grew, i stopped counting the fish we hooked up. that's the fun of charter fishing! Everyone on board had a blast and that truely is the most important part. See previous reports, Basically nothing changed. haven't changed a bait in nearly a month. Fished the last hill out to 230 fow. Some dry spots along the way but for the most part, fish all the way. No pictures today, i was by myself.
  21. i always dreamed my 27 baha would grow into a 29 tiara open, but never thought it would really happen.... Sometimes everything just comes together!
