  1. Fished 10am to 4pm out deep with a couple good friends. Finished 12-14 with a bunch of nice rainbows and cohos, one smaller king and threw back a smaller lake trout. fished between 270 and 330 fow. Fish were scattered throughout the whole range. Seemed like more of the cohos were on the deeper side of the troll. Action was not super hot, but was pretty steady. Attention spans for fishing dwindled some while the packer game was on though. 5 and 7 colors, 300 foot coppers, dipsys 225 and 69, downriggers between 25 and 150 feet. Super slims (hot michigan dolphin, bloody death 2, un-named blue and purple NBK style), stinger sized NBK, green dot spin doctor/green crinkle, UV dreamcatcher spin doctor/blue fairways. i love deep water fishing! if anyone gets a chance and the water is as nice as it was over the weekend, go get some! fishing doesn't have to be over yet, don't be a quitter yet!
  2. nice jim! glad you took a chance on the deep water. lots of fish, clean fish, out there this time of year but most people seem to stick close to shore.
  3. thanks guys! jim - that is about 15 miles out of racine, probably alittle closer for you.
  4. A fun day of fish hunting aboard another charter boat, the Margret V, on tuesday. Fished from 10am to 3pm and ended up 5 for 7. started inside the hills and marked a ton of bait on the bottom across all three hills and out to 160ish fow. Not really any fish with the bait and no hits. Pulled lines to relocate and had a small brown on a 7 color. Powered out to 265 fow and started marking a lot of fish. Trolled out past 300 fow and turned back. Ended up going 4 for 6 in just over an hour with three lake trout and a rainbow. Blue/chrome spindoctor and green fly 313 feet out on a wire dipsy, White flasher and aqua fly 151 downrigger and 300 coppers, and superslim hot michigan dolphin on a 7 color.
  5. thats a bad way to end the season. sorry to hear this. have you thought about doing any of the work yourself, or with GL Fisherman friends? Could save a decent amount of money. Even just applying the barrier coat and paint could save a bunch.
  6. that stinks! i saw it going for a short ride in front of the harbor on saturday. must be the new owners. Still has the for sale sign on it though?!
  7. there is a really nice 26 penn yan for sale in the marina my boat is at. it has been for sale all season and the only time it has moved was from one slip to another. Maybe able to get it for a good price! http://www.skipperbuds.com/Page.aspx/diid/3385286/list/InventoryList/pageId/9033/view/Details/1990-Penn-Yan-265PROHUNTER.aspx
  8. fished from 10am-1pm. another solo scavenger hunt. ended 2 for 3. it was actually a lot rougher on the water then i expected. one pass in front of the harbor, real nice color line about 1/4 mile offshore. first fish 25 fow on the edge of the color line next to the green can. headed out to the reef marker on the north side. another fish 35-40 fow between the reef and the harbor. Marked a lot of bait just outside the reef marker in 50-55 fow but no action. Headed back towards the harbor and missed another fish in the same spot as the first on, next to "blinking Louie." All three fish came on a three color with a Dreamweaver Stairway to Heaven plug. Tried lots of different spoons, plugs and a few fly combos on my other two rods with no success.
  9. i know its too late anyways, but did they have any big triple axle trailers? that is really what i wanted to go for, try to get a trailer for my big pig cheap!
  10. how was the auction? i was really disappointed i had to work. Looked like a lot of good stuff!
  11. I remember years ago, the first time i had ever seen a foodsaver type product. The guy put a beer can in it and the machine completely crushed the can and sealed the bag air tight. they definitely do not make 'em like that anymore!
  12. i've always used the food saver. works good but occasionally pull a bag out of the freezer to find it was not vacuumed or sealed properly. I think the moisture may be an issue at times. i would love to try one of the commercial units.
  13. took all my friends fishing today...me, myself, and i! more of a fish hunting expedition. fished from 10am-1pm. ended another spectacular day 1 for 2. shallow water was cold, but really really murky. Started in 50 fow and didn't find clean water until just short of the hills. Did not mark much, but the water was cold everywhere. First fish came in 120 fow over the edge of the last hill. One more hit ~140 fow. trolled out just past 200 fow with no more action and came home. nice relaxing day on a flat calm day. maybe if my crew was more enthusiastic about changing baits and what not, i may have caught a few more. nice big coho came on a captain valium spin doctor with aqua fly, 154 on a dipsy. other hit came on a dreamcatcher paddle w/ uv tarheel fly, 38 downrigger.
  14. nice job! i love sturgeon bay. thats awesome to have to ability to fish the lake or the bay
  15. I had the pleasure of meeting and fishing with Jeff Miller from Traxstech last week. Between the outstanding customer service i have received prior to meeting Jeff and getting to know him a little bit, i believe stating Traxstech will not honor the original Vector warranty may be somewhat false. They may not just up and give you a brand new downrigger or rodholder but i'm sure they will do anything they can resolve any issues you may have. From personal experience, I believe Traxstech takes great pride in ensuring their customers are happy with any products associated with their name, including pre-Traxstech Vector products.
  16. do you have a preference of vintage? the pre-1992 models had a different hull than the post 1992, amongst many other changes. I would definitely second the crusaders. i spend all winter/spring researching and visiting many different 29 an 31 tiaras. If there are any questions i can help you with let me know. I also have a lot of mental and physical notes of the Tiaras i looked at, many still for sale. 6-9 months and still for sale may help
  17. i love my vectors.....but they are not made anymore from experience, i personally would never buy one with plastic parts anymore. Honestly, all the major manufacturers have good products. It comes down to preference with rod holders, speed, color, low profile vs higher profile, what kind of bases, etc, etc, etc.
  18. yeah, could have been worse! as bad as fishing was, i have been sitting at the fire station all day today wishing i was fishing again!
  19. fished 1:30pm to 5:00pm. ended 2 for 2 really slow. Started S.E. of the reef in 35-60 fow after decent report from the morning. Water was good but marked very little. 2 hours and no hits. pulled lines and moved to Wind Point. Water was about 5 degrees colder. Lots of bait on the shelf around the can. Two fish came 50 fow east of the 14 can. Both fish came 15 down on a swr. one on a regular warrior weasel, one on a regular warrior glow green alewife. hope it gets better!
  20. welcome matt! jim is right on. most of us rely on experience and networking to catch fish. The more you research and fish, the better fisherman you will be. Talk to some of the charter captains that are fishing everyday, if they are willing to talk to you. Location is one of the number one factors in catching fish on lake michigan. I was in Port yesterday and the guys fishing the dock said they were starting to catch fish. They should be staging in and in front of the harbor mouth now. The immature salmon generally "stage" as well. they will come to the same general area they were spawned in as well, just not travel up the river. They will usually be where the bait is. hope this helps!
  21. nice job kyle! sounds like my venture up to sturgeon bay last summer for the KD tourny. Lots of wind and not much fish!
  22. i'm going fishing tomorrow no matter what!
  23. thanks guys! looks like they are all saying the same thing. Sunday looks like it may be nice. oh, well. i blew an exhaust hose and have to replace the risers on one motor anyways. should be fixed today or tomorrow and ready if the weekend is fishable.
  24. that was from noaa as well. it is the open water forecast, the near shore wasn't as bad. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/product.php?site=lot&product=glf&issuedby=lm http://www.crh.noaa.gov/grr/marine/ how are you accessing noaa? i also like comparing different forecasts. its amazing how different they can be sometimes.
